Great episode guys! This is a interesting look at these figures. I remember from days of working at Toys R Us. They were experimenting with several different parts and bodies used to create GI Joe figures. I have to admit the 2002-2005 series displays were fun to set up in stores. Yes, they were ridgid about following an established layouts instead of using our creativity to boost sales. The "stretched" versions of figures tended to warm those pegs. However, the Cobra Viper 6 packs and some of the "daily doubles" or 2 figure packs of that time were hot items for army building or expanding your collection in short time at my store. After clocking out , I would sneak down to our neighbors at KB Toys to see what they had in stock. Those were good times.
Great episode! I have a Crimson Guard army, simply by buying one of each of the CG sets you guys mentioned. I never knew about the Infiltrate Cobra Island set. I would’ve bought the Infiltrate Cobra Island set, had it been released!
Great topic! Best Cobra Convergence episode of CC7 thus far (IMO). Interesting that there is no one in the community who knows the story. It was only ~20 years ago. I wonder if DDP knows who might have worked on this set?
Another great episode! I remember bidding to win a CG Immortal proto with the Rock Viper head. I think it was Gary who talked me out of going all in on it because there were some PoC prototypes in the pipeline that he knew I wanted(mainly Volcano Viper).
