Reds gave the impression they were ready to wheel and deal and make big bold moves. All I see is the same old same old. Checking in, coming close, standing by while other teams pull off the deals, being creative, being patient. Make a deal for crying out loud.
Pitching and catching are the positions that are specialized. The reds have a surplus of talent at shortstop, which by many are usually the most athletic on the team. The team needs to have these young men learn the outfield.
I think ( IF the Reds don't make a move ) if Hinds has a great spring you start him in RF, Fraley in LF and Friedl in CF. I move Steer back to !st or 3rd ( depending on the type of springs that CES and Marte has ) leaving Canfelario to DH...but I ONLY go with this play IF the Reds make no moves AND depending on the type of spring is had by Hins, CES and Marte !
Yeh, they should have used Hinds down the stretch more last year. Not because they were trying to win, but because they could have given him more MLB experience which could have helped him grow more and develop. Just my opinion though.
@@jacobjensen1380 100%, it wasn't like we had a legitimate playoff shot. Why not play guys that are in your plans for 2025 and beyond and find out what they do well and what they need to improve on...then they could go to the Arizona Fall League ( like McLain and CES did ) then in camp you can get a much clearer picture of what you have and what you need.
If the reds don’t make a move for an out field power bat and some bullpen help they will not make the playoffs…and if they do happen to sneak in they will lose first round. Reds need to spend some big money for once and go for it. Gets old year in and year out with the same garbage.
@@Smallie888 While I agree with you on the fact that it gets tiresome seeing them NOT make a "Splash" move and when they do the money is misspent ( Candelario ) I think you ( like many Reds fans ) are far underestimating the impact having a healthy McLain, Friedl, CES, Marte and a one season more mature Elly De La Cruz in the lineup can have on our won / loss record. I'm not making excuses but we had a TON of injuries last season, and not just injuries, long term injuries to KEY players. I agree with you we have a solid young core with the exception of Marte who may not make the big league roster next season. I just feel if the reds don’t sign a solid outfield power bat and some lockdown bullpen guys they may squander away this great opportunity. The reds window is the next three years and then it’s back to the basement. Plus the MLB is broken and completely unfair. They need to fix it. Anywho, I’m still excited to see the Reds in 2025!
@Steve Candyman hurt tonight. Likely a hammy probably lingering to spring training. Who plays 3rd now? or do we find someone to trade for or try to handle in house?
Sometimes the best moves are the ones not made. Not saying they don’t need to make a move but making one just to say you did, not smart IMO. None of us can predict the future, but I think having a calming personality in the clubhouse ( manager) as well as a teammate that keeps all the players playing loose and having fun….
The Reds aren't ahead of the curve with the handle the players. You say the Reds should let the players play? How about letting the starters pitch complete games. It builds stamina and overall makes them healthier as long as they don't try to overpower the hitters.
Saw you last night on late night reds man (Steve) but we need to get outfielder starting to worry I see the rumors even the one bout pitcher out of Japan come on reds management do something
Krall needs to step his game up. They have to change their FA Strategy. The can’t keep going to a player telling them “we have to pay you slightly below market value, but we can offer you all you can eat Skyline Chili during your entire Reds tenure. And if you win MVP or something, we’ll give ya free chili for life!”
If you get Santander on a 10-year deal, you get 7 years of prime output and 3 years of occasional DHing. Front-load the contract. It's what they did with Votto. Santander will sign that contract.
Great show as always, guys! I wrote down very similar talking points about Terry and the merging of old school versus new school way of doing things for my first episode of my Reds Reality podcast coming up. I also very much agree with how you mentioned that it’s not a short term fix it needs to be a long-term fix in the OF and that if you go with Reese and Blake this year than something is very, very wrong.
Austin Hays hit .354 against LHP in 82AB last season, he’s going to cost like $5M for the season, at the bare minimum, a Fraley/Hays platoon could suffice for one corner OF spot, but I want Steer out of the OF, so sign Teo or Santander and roll with that. I wouldn’t trade for Robert if the cost is still high.
The lack of OF prospects is a result of drafting the best player available. I understand why you do. Don’t get me wrong. But you draft/trade/sign Cruz McClain India Marte Arroyo Collier CES etc. All infielders. You either need to move some to the corner OF spots early so they can develop or they’re trade pieces similar to Yonder Alonso and Grandal.
Can’t believe, well, yes I can, the Reds are still screwing around with back up catcher. Go sign James McCann before he’s gone and get that position out of the way.
While people don't get as excited about a managerial change like they do acquiring a Starting Pitcher. A GOOD Manager is worth an additional 10 to 15 wins a season. The Reds finished with 77 wins last season...they were 15 - 28 in one run games....let's say Francona went .500 in those games at 28 - 28...that's THIRTEEN games !
