Great writers made this show one of the best ever! My favorite Raylan line was: “Wonderful things can happen when you sow seeds of distrust in a garden of assholes.”
One great writer did most of the heavy lifting - the entire JUSTIFIED Universe was created from one 60 page novella, FIRE IN THE HOLE, by Elmore Leonard. Do a 2 minute google search on Elmore Leonard and I guarantee you'll be amazed at how much of his writing has been made into TV or movies. And you'll be even more amazed by how many of the movies and TV shows deserve a place in the TOP 50 lists. Get Shorty, Out of Sight, Jackie Brown. The most amazing thing...? The books are even better than the TV/movies they made out of them. Read FIRE IN THE HOLE to see.
"I'll kill 4 of you before you even clear your weapons and I'll take my chances with the other 2". That's an awesome and very underrated tv show/movie line. That's some Doc Holliday, Tombstone sh*t right there.
How can you say "best ever" when you include the entire casts of Hill St Blues, Miami Vice and NYPD Blue plus you're up against Joe Friday of Dragnet, Kojak, Columbo and Police Woman Angie Dickinson (I cannot remember her characters name... dang dementia...)
Looking back at this, I think lookin after Loretta somewhat prepared him for fatherhood whether he realized it or not. Also, this standoff with Hot Rod Dunham was yet another reminder of how much like his pops he was but way sharper in how he applied it. Cause rather than become a criminal like his pops, he used his life experiences to be a lawman instead. But by this point, I think he was slowly starting to get meaner.
Yes, I think in many ways his relationship with Loretta was a chance for him to preserve her innocence given he had lost his at an early age due to his upbringing, which was not much different from Loretta's. Him acting as a guardian of sorts to her is also an interesting parallel to how much of a deadbeat he is throughout Season 5. At this point, his baby girl is born and he hasn't even met her yet, is actively avoiding going to Florida, has lost WInona, and is generally aimless. Also this monologue is badass.
We had a guy like Raylan growing up. Old cop. Dude was stone cold hard. Kind, but hard. They used to get together play cards, dominos, or whatever else they felt like. We used to sit around and listen to them trade war stories. One of my favorite stories of the others used to tell was how he stood ground against a bunch of dealers who had ganged up together, tried to rob the evidence van for the drugs they just seized in a bust. He got them all to surrender with another wicked line I've never forgotten. From the way it was told to us, what he said was that we're not not just cops, we're dogs, and showed them the precinct crest (sheep dogs). Before you pull the trigger and start a ruckus, remember that these dogs don't just bark. We bite, we hunt, and we run in a pack. If you don't want us on your scent for the rest of your lives, throw 'em down... and they all surrendered. The funniest part was that there were only 4 cops there that night, and there were like 9 or 10 of them. They were out manned and out gunned, but he scared them enough they surrendered. To me, that was the baddest thing I've ever heard in my life to this day.
Why did Raylan kill Derek out but let Loretta stay? (Also, agreed; the actress did a brilliant job. You could see the guilt and the traces of fear and just a touch of shame. Brilliant job.)
She felt safe enough to get some sleep. As awesome as Raylan is as a hero, kind of gives a bit of pause to wonder just how bad it would be if he was a dishonest deputy marshal.
Damn, Watching these clips are gonna make me watch the whole series over again, lol I’ve only seen it probably 15 times, Haha Such an awesome show, Raylan is such a badass !
It's cool that you like both shows, but this is nothing like The Wire. The Wire is intelligent. This is basically Walker Texas Ranger for a new generation.
Yea totally agree, I will always have a spot in my heart for this series, Being from Kentucky myself, Loved the series, Still watch it today. I really tried giving the other show a chance, But as it was pointed out, It just didn’t have the lightning and thunder this one had, Not even gonna mention the love interest differences between shows, Wow.
Tim is my favorite actor; I went to every movie he was in, most of them s**tty (though he was always great regardless). I was so glad when Justified came out. And now that I think about it, Mickey Jones was always great as well, even though he was horribly typecast.
I didn't quite catch where it was he said the Marshals were trained, so i looked them up. I just found out that Marshalls often carry Staccato 2011 pistols. Damn, those things are like the Rolls Royce of 9mm firearms. They are about 2500 dollars compared to a glock which is usually well under 1000.
She ends up seated up front in the passenger seat, but was in the driver’s side rear seat during the tension between her and her boyfriend. She probably got out of the car (to the surprise and disappointment of Raylan and happiness of Derek), then circled it and got back in. I feel like that’s a moment that plays hilariously if we see it, but even better that we don’t.
Corny fake Raylan trying to play a tough guy . He doesn't even come close . Phony Phony Phony character . This TV series should have been canceled after the first Episode
One of my favourite justified scenes. Proof of what Art said " a terrible marshall but a great lawman".
"I'll kill four of you before you even clear your weapons, and I'll take my chances with the other two." Raylan is such an awesome character. 😁
The best!
I mean between the writing and the acting we will never see such a great character. He was always cool under pressure.
It ain’t bragging when you can really do it 😊😮🎉, and raglan can 😮!!
@@Ghostmaker-c4u you should read the books...he is even better there
Such a great line! Right up there with "Why, Johnny Ringo. You look like someone just walked over your grave."
"My general rule is you keep talking I put you in the trunk."
Still beats putting lotion on the skin...
Seems that I've heard Timothy utter those words elsewhere . . .
Mr In-between would say “Boot”

Scenes like these are why Raylan Givens is the best TV show cop ever.

Yes, best ever no doubt.
@@billt8504 If that's the best you can come up with you are supporting the case that Raylan Givens is the best TV show cop ever.

Like his boss said.... "piss poor Marshal, one HELL of a Lawman"
The drug dealer(Rodney) was played by Mickey Jones, who played drums for Kenny Rogers(The Gambler) in the 60's and 70s. Look it up!
He also filled in for Levon Helm when the Hawks backed Bob Dylan on his famous 1966 tour of Great Britain.
Say whaaaaat!?!?!
He also played Willie Baylor in _In The Heat of the Night_ in 1989.
He also played for Bob Dylan.
Yep. Mickey subbed for Levon when Levon had enough of the booing.
Boyd is best with talking, and Raylan is the best with threats.

Damn, I enjoyed Justified. Timothy was the Clint Eastwood for this generation...
Oh he was lights out in Deadwood as well
The actress who played Loretta acted the role beautifully. I would like to see her encounter Raylen again.
She was good in Dopesick.
Why did Raylan kill Derek out but let Loretta stay? (Also, agreed; the actress did a brilliant job. You could see the guilt and the traces of fear and just a touch of shame. Brilliant job.)
Kaitlyn Dever. She was also on Last Man Standing with Tim Allen at the same time as Justified. Great actress.
Just watched her in Rosaline. Shakespearean Romcom. She was brilliant of course.
She felt safe enough to get some sleep.

God, how I miss that show. Best ever.

Elmore Leonard.. a great great writer .
This along with “The Wire” are brilliant. Two of the greatest series on TV.
Also check out an Australian series called Mr Inbetween. excellent as well.

“You see this? That’s gonna make it legal.”
I have rewatched this series many times.
Great scene w/ Steve and Wood Harris! Great acting!
The writing and the casting was just too good. The reboot just didn't have the same magic, unfortunately.
Yep. I only watched two episodes. Very disappointing.
And his love interest? From Winona to an unattractive, heavyset woman. Yikes.
The reboot was such a bummer.
At least they tried, I respect it. There was just no way anything could live up to the original. Reboots seldom do.

One of my favorites shows of all time.
Classic series!
So many good scenes and acting.
I know that shows have to end. But i would've loved this show to have at least ten more seasons.
Mickey Jones as Hot Rod. Interesting dude, he was Bob Dylan's drummer in the 60's and was drummer in the First Edition with Kenny Rogers.
Hotrod had no idea that Raylan and pretty woman’s brother would be there when he died and it would not even be Raylan that shot him. 😎
That's the coolest line ever to come out of the tv.....dude🤟
The king of cool

Agent 47 gone straight. "We determine who we are by what we do. This is what makes us human."
There's more than a passing resemblance between Raylan and Harry Callahan

By FAR the MOST COLD conversation that took place in this show....
He’s got balls but can walk the walk.
Fun Fact: Mickey Jones (Rodney "Hot Rod" Dunham) was the drummer for Kenny Rogers and The First Edition.
Nice Hitman reference.

Avon wants it one way, but it's the other way.

Raylan had such a soft spot for her. I refuse to watch this enire series again for a 4th or fifth time. I'm not doing it!!!

Raylan , enough said.
Those two dudes sitting on the ground are brothers in real life. Sherwin David "Wood" Harris and Steve Harris
Is that Wood Harris?
Yes and his character met Boyd. So in some alternative universe, Avon Barksdale and Boyd Crowder met.
Yep. And his real life brother.
God, I miss this show. May have to start it over for a 3rd run...
Third? Bump those numbers up,those are rookie numbers.J.k
Raylan should have adopted Loretta.
And Loretta turned out to be an uncaring sociopath only out for herself. Mags would be SO proud.
Series finale, she toed Boone’s 45 out of his grasp, perhaps saving Raylan’s life. That act was purely for the benefit of another.

Yeah, that seems to be standard on TH-cam. I don't know why.
At this point in the series he had bailed her out of several tight spots, this time it sunk in.
Cool as a cucumber
Why did he threaten to kill the boy and then dump him out of the car but let the girl stay? With no context, it seems a little creepy.
