Impossible and wildly unfair. Given that apparently the initial plan was to kill Ragnar in Season 1. They kept him because Travis was such an amazing actor and so fun to watch.
Travis Fimmels performance as Ragnar Lothbrok was phenomenal. The way he acted as a young Ragnar and as a old Ragnar, he nailed it. The legacy that the Character left behind on his sons and on his people as well as how he was called the most dangerous man on the planet, goes to show how well his character was developed. Rip Our King❤️
ok here we go with the feels, plus I've had a little/lot to drink too.. oh man this is gonna be tough lol 5 seconds in & I've had to pause and get myself ready for this...
I still bawl like a baby everytime I watch this episode. Being sober/drunk doesn't help me at all. Regardless of my mental state once episode 15 comes on Waterworks.exe starts running.
I was waiting for this episode. It breaks my heart every time. So tragic to see a legend like ragnar die like that. This bit was historically accurate. I love game of thrones and the red wedding fucked me up and shocked me. But this made me tear up all the time. I don't think I felt so close to a character like ragnar. Tragic hero who you can kinda see yourself in him. Definitely one of my top 3 favourite characters on TV.
I was the exact same when I finished the episode. I didn’t move onto episode 16 for a good few months. It really took a long time for me to process and get over the death of Ragnar. I’ve been here since the very first episode you released and it’s safe to say, I felt the pain all over again. If you wanna have a break from recording Vikings, the majority of your viewers who love this show will be behind you every step of the way. I’m so glad you’ve completed Ragnars journey, because it was a wonderful one and one to be shared. If you’re feeling up to it you should react to The Choice by Zurik 23M which is a beautiful collage of Ragnars journey. Thank you so much for posting this video in confidence. We love you ❤️
Just some notes: Ragnar's death by snake pit was foreshadowed all the way back in season 1 when Aelle threw his soldier to the snakes. In the sagas this is generally believed to be how the real Ragnar went out. Aethelstan tried to explain to Ragnar what a martyr was and Ragnar said he still didn't understand during Aethelstan's eulogy....Now, he finally understood :( "How the little piggies will grunt when they hear how the old boar suffered." Also, in the extended edition, when Ragnar is talking to the seer, he states that the seer only tells people what they expect to hear and gives them a self fulfilling prophecy, and since Vikings believed in fate, the person would cause said prophecy to come true. Like how Lagertha would have had her baby if only she would not have overworked herself but because she received the seer's prophecy as truth, she made the prophecy come true. I think the show runners were initially going to kill Ragnar fairly early, as his sons become even more famous than him, but Travis Fimmel's acting was so good that it literally kept him alive. You should watch some of the behind the scenes extras if you haven't already, Travis is a hilarious dude who constantly pranked everyone on set.
I just have to say - I love how involved you are with your community. You actively try to respond to every comment you receive. Not many youtubers do that. It really brings a feeling of "togetherness" especially during rough episodes like these. Keep up the amazing work :)
Little bit of information about the death of Ragnar, (because I love history and music and how shows use them). Ragnar Lothbrok, if he existed outside the sagas, was killed by being dropped into a pit of snakes, and the song that's being sung while the snakes are being placed in the pit, before Ragnar's speech is called Snakepit Poetry, by Einar Selvik which is one of the most haunting songs he's written outside of the band Wardruna, which he was the lead singer for. And the song is describing the death scene from the sagas, which makes it very fitting for this episode.
Fuck!! I've watched this episode about 3 times and still cry. Ivar became my favorite character in this episode, because he was the only son who stayed with Ragnar when he needed it most !!
Yeah, I've had the same kind of experience, feeling emotionally wasted after the journey Ragnar took during his last bunch of episodes, with the drugs and failures in love, feeling empty and hopeless and yet strangely uplifted by the end that was coming. What a trip. Your reaction is so true to what happened, in your own way honouring the man. Ragnar has been an amazing character, brought to life by a genius of an actor, and our reactions are a testament to that.
Commenting at the beginning, I can't wait for the tears. Edit: Coming back afterwards, was most certainly not disappointed l Shayla! We all had the same feelings for this episode. We knew what was going to happen but still couldn't go anything about it.
This episode has been the end of a legend and the birth of another. What hurt me was how in the end, in his most painful moments, his brain clung to his most peaceful memories for comfort, the times when he was in the farm.
a whole box of tissues sat upon my desk, and a full bottle of rum lay at my feet; my heart hardened in preparation for this episode--now, the tissues are half gone, the bottle empty, and my heart is broken
one of the most beautiful and horrible episodes of television ever created--I just watched your reaction again, Lady Shayla--one of the most honest and amazing, HEARTBREAKING reactions I have seen, EVER! (that box of tissues is GONE!)

This whole episode I kept waiting and hoping that someone was going to spring from the bushes and save Ragnar. that maybe he'll look up at the crest of the hill and you'll see 20 Vikings about to charge down on them. But nope. They never came. I hope he gets more roles to play. He's worth more than the world of war craft movie.
