    The Stripmeister is the best. Even the lowest price model is better than anything in its class.

    It’s a side hustle. Extra cash for me doesn’t have to be an hourly rate. This way I don’t pressure myself to make sure I am getting the best rate per hour. If you have the time and the copper why not throw a couple of bucks in your pocket.

      I agree. Time is of little concern for those doing this as a hobby or side hustle. But it can be useful to understand how to spend the time if you have multiple projects going on.

    Another thing you got to watch in your aluminum wire is to make sure it isn't ACSR (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced), which is used in overhead wiring. One, it will downgrade your wire due to the steel center wire and two, if you are using cable cutters, it will ruin them!! I always strip my aluminum wire, but my yard has a higher price above aluminum for aluminum wire. And I usually get 100 lbs or more when I get it. Good analysis!!

      That's an awesome tip/warning Roger, thank you for sharing that. I've not run into any of that yet.

    Its more efficient to feed them into the machine all at once and then turn the machine off, then peel the insulation off all at once

      I never got around to performing any time trials but suspect you are correct. We'll need to see if I pick up any electrician clients in my new location and get back to big wire runs again.

    I am told that this is a better grade of aluminum and should be higher than extrusion. But this is scrap life thanks for sharing this six stars

      Like everything in our scrap life, it depends on your yard. Some yards do pay better for it as noted by a couple comments in this stream. I wish my yard was one of those.

    First time I brought some in I was pleasantly surprised at price because it’s a high grade aluminum. I think I’ve even got around $0.75/lb unstripped in the past.

    I get all kinds of aluminum wire but it's in th 14 to 16 gauge size. Its stranded really not stripable do you separate that from the copper wire and bring it in seperate.

    • @sharkscrapper
      @sharkscrapper  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, my non-ferrous yard wants the insulated Al wire separated from the insulated copper wire.

    I don't strip aluminium cable. Although I never had any aluminium cable as thick as you had there. It might be worth it.
    Stripping wire is always HEAVILY dependent on what price you get for what. There are several categories of wire with different levels of prices, usually decided on weight percentage of metal content. At my places the different grades are 37%, >60% and >70% copper. So IF your cable JUST makes it into a category, don't strip it. Your pay per hour will be small. It can even be slightly negative.
    (Example: Thick 5 stranded installation cable for 3phase power already are >70% copper when still in its outside insulation. If you take off the outer layer, you still only have >70% copper in 5 insulated individual conductors, but less weight. So you have to strip those 5 conductors down to bare metal increase the pay. But you have to make 6 stripping runs and take off a lot of weight. A lot of work for the pay.)
    The trick is to do the steps that gets you into the money zone. Often it is just stripping the outside layer of thinner cables. Normal household cable usually is 70%. THAT step is worth it!

      @sharkscrapper  ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't agree with you more about the need to pay attention to the time vs return. A lot of scrappers don't consider how much they're making relative to the time spent. I did a similar ROI video on ROMEX and was surprised by the outcome.

    • @jackmclane1826
      @jackmclane1826 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sharkscrapper I have seen a roller machine with large rollers that a guy used for squishing the cable. It fell completely apart after that and you could just pick the metal out of squished strands of plastic.
      The machine was VERY beefy with a large motor. Probably intended for rolling metal.
      I just know romex from US scrapping videos. In Germany the ground also needs an insulation which needs to be green/yellow striped. Romex might be nice because it has less plastic per copper.
