Sam....you are the best anatomy teacher I have found yet, and I am SO grateful! I have been struggling and overwhelmed with my anatomy text and studies for many weeks now, and no matter how creatively or repetitively I tried to approach the material I just couldn't get it to stick...until now!! Thank You!! :)
The part about the deep peroneal nerve and the importance of dorsiflexion resonates with me so much. Years ago I compressed that nerve for so long by sitting on my legs that it temporarily paralyzed my Tibialis anterior. I had the foot drag, high knee gait, and even after I was getting movement back my foot slapped the ground for quite a while because it was so weak. If there’s one part of anatomy I’ll never forget, it’s that. Lol
Thank you for saving my bacon as I try learn this stuff as an unexpectedly external medical student currently not allowed into the labs or museum thanks to COVID!
I knew I recognized you from somewhere! I've been binging your videos for a while now, but you where always familiar to me. When I saw the Gower tower in the intro I was like ... 'thats Effing Swansea!' I spent 5 great years at the uni there, my favourite anatomy TH-cam channel just became even more so!
Nice Sam....."the usual". Tell your kids...to try walking "backwards to strengthen the anterior flexors too....this creates synergy and contralateral strength with respect to the calves and soleus muscles....which get "much too overworked". This will eventually get rid of shin splints,...and help with plantar fasciitis of the foot. Also kids/watch someone called the "Knee Over Toes" guy. Cool....wish I was back at college. If I could start over....I'd study anatomy and "steal Sam's job". Cheers.
Great videos Sam. In your excitement, I believe you said that extensor digitorum longus originates from the "lateral condyle of the tibia, and the tibia and the interosseous membrane" 6:05 This is not totally correct. The EDL originates from the lateral tibial condyle and interosseous membrane (as you correctly state), however is takes origin from the upper 2/3 of anterior surface of shaft of fibula (not tibia). Keep up the great videos! I recommend them to my class all the time!
Really great. I am learning a lot about my legs... The only thing I would add is how clever all this anatomy is for suppoerting the whole body while running/walking on rough surfaces (up/down and across a hill). I walk a lot across country, and that obviously matters to me. Maybe another reason for the complex inversion and eversion setups as well as the dorsiflexion...
The fibularis longus is also very important for plantar flexion during biking, as learnt thr a painful experience. Since both inversion and eversion are inactive with the foot on the pedal, the muscle works as a plantar flexer along with the caf muscles. Once, after a normal hours long ride and a lunch, intense pains started in the fibula head as soon as the ride resumed. So, the relatively small muscle must be stressed too much during the long ride before the lunch but the soreness is delayed till after the lunch break. It's weird, however, as this never happened prior or thereafter in my multi-decades biking practice.
Dr sam i appreiciate your teachimng style.highly appreciable and copyable.thanks alot for imparting lowerleg muscles nerve and complex tendons dtructure.
the nerve thats runs to the big toe,,,my problem is if you run your fingers down the shin bone of left leg, it is just to the right side of the bone to the inside of the leg,,,and feels swollen and terrific pain, Thank you Sam, any information you can share would be appreciated, I am willimng to come see you if necessary , thats how bad my pain is,
Very detailed and informative videos. Thank You so much for posting. I just got certified as a laser technician and need to work on polishing up my anatomy skills. I turn to your videos. I have seen that you have an anatomy app. Was wondering if one is able to purchase DVDs or downloadable series of the human anatomy from you??
Thanks 💮💮 💮 Sam you teaching style Rocks my socks. 😊 Also I recently got a sore tibialis Longus (near the origin) because I've been skipping alot lately, makes sense being involved in planter flexion as you said.
Hi Sam, I am so happy to run across your video, This is very interesting to me because I am having a lot of problems with my left lower leg, The i think you said anterior muscle , maybe the extensor Hallucis longus muscle and the yellow nerve that runs down on top of it on the front of the leg,,,,,, , My pain is approx, 4" above the foot. I have a few question if you can answer for me, I had a MRI and doctor said it shows nothing,,,, you can feel a space the size of your thumb in above mentioned area and with walking it it terrific pain, This has been for 5 years, and getting where I can not walk at all, ...If you look at this model above right where the cut is to remove the muscle is about same location where my problem is , Can you please help me, Thank you Bonnie,,
Thank you for such an awesome illustrational video, and one question, i guess here the concept inverstion and eversion of foot was mentioned vice versa? Or i just misunderstood that part..
After 24 years of my doing MBBS , i think i have really understood the anatomy of a human body .. May Allah keep you healthy and strong Sam ..
Allah is just an idol. So it can't keep anyone anything. Jesus however...

These videos are so good, I am actually beginning to enjoy learning all the muscles of the body. Fantastic, thank you so much.
If I could like this video unlimitedly, I would. Thank you so much!
I wish we could all agree to get rid of the "Peroneal" label and just go with fibular instead. It is far less confusing
So confusing to me a student lol
So helpful. I can’t describe how much easier of the learning process you made…
Brilliant delivery by a clear English accent. If only all TH-cam videos were this good. Keep up the good work!

Well done. Not just the anatomy but how these muscles function presented in straightforward way. Superior teacher. A biomechanics expert?

Amazing work. Best explanation so far
7:52 sir fibularis tertius is present, see just adjacent to extensor digitorum.Even its tendon is visibly going to the 5th metatarsal...
I can’t get bored with this video thank you so much 💪🏻☺️

Do deep fibular nerve is anterior tibial nerve and superficial fibular nerve is musculocutaneous nerve?🤔
Kindly make a video on spinal infarction anatomy
