Ended at I think 44 games? It was at Game 3 of the second round, I was at that game and it was kinda heartbreaking to not see him record a point, but he came back and led the CHL in points in the Playoffs, and points in the Memorial Cup!

At first, I was a bit hesitant on him, seeing the projections and draft rankings. But from what I’ve seen, he looks pretty good. Probably the Knights’ best player in the playoffs, can play the wing and the centre position, a very feisty player, a good two way player with good in game IQ, and has taken massive strides this season. Was it a reach? Yeah, we probably should have traded down to get assets and pick him in the second round. But still a good pickup nonetheless.
I think the scouts know what they are doing my friend with this pick.
Nobody would have picked him in the first 3 rounds likely.

Leafs had intel that teams behind them had him high on their list meaning he would have went shortly after if they hadn't picked him I think leafs got a steal tbh. Guy is a dog on the puck 200ft player hits steals can score big goals in the playoffs very underrated.

Leafs focus has been on drafting very competitive, hard working and smart players. Sounds like this kid fits that mold. Looks young and has a lot of room to grow. Clearly will be 3-5 years away. Will be interested to see if he drops over 100 pts in the OHL this upcoming season.
Production almost means nothing can he take a beating and get back up is the question thats how small players last longer than 5 years the shelf life of a hockey career is short.
@Ichimar486 look at how he plays and I think you will find the answer to that he has elite vision hockey iq and compete to go along with some skill guy is a dog on the puck throws hits too great pick. Never gives up.
It's about the intangibles he brings vision passing and high level compete that is the most important to me. Can play a 200ft game and in all areas.
As opposed to drafting non-competitive, lazy and dumb players.

We have all played with super talented players, who only try sometimes. Leafs would rather the hard working, smart kid, who is a little less talented, rather than the skillful player, who takes shifts off.
Of course the perfect player has everything, but those are the things they are prioritizing when drafting.

Exactly the type of player we want and need but can't get. Sometimes you have to draft these guys yourself. I see huge upside actually he is just starting to show what he can do.

I'm surprised they weren't able to trade down. That being said, i wonder about the upside. I hope we dont end up with another Gauthier situation where the team picked him because they were certain he would eventually become an nhl player and passed on other players with greater upside.
Considering how it's turned out with his multiple mvps in the O, I'm glad they didn't risk it. This is a top 5-10 player in this draft.

I seriously don’t understand the thought process behind this. There were so many skilled players left with a fairly high ceiling... this guys potential is high end bottom 6🤦🏼♂️

Would have preferred Kasper Hultanen. He's a gritty forward that's competitive and won't give up position. I thought we could use a player that's more tough to play against, but I guess we'll stick with the Dubas's philosophy of adding more skill.

Nice pick we as fans want the Toronto maple leafs start picking players that have played whole season and top that playoffs they kind of players now grind that be Fitted for the NHL more so than college in European where they just played 40 or 50 games that’s not enough to learn the real grind of the NHL and playoffs keep going in this direction Toronto Maple Leafs and when you trade for players make sure they played in the playoffs and hopefully all the games that they played in the season that’s how you collect good quality players to play for this team that’s what we need

So frustrating to watch. This pick screams too many cooks in the kitchen. They failed to draft by position and to pick the best player remaining. Bizarre pick like the Rodion Amirov pick. They pick some unknown small forward when there are clearly larger more skilled players available. The team has lost its direction. Shanahan is next on the chopping block.
Yeah, and look how its panned out so far. Pontus Holmberg, Timothy Lilijegren, they've made good draft picks, look at Knies, Voit. They've drafted extremely well, this kid looks to be a playoff performer, put up 21 points in 20 games, above a point a game, plus his regular season was pretty good after not making an impact the year prior. If this kid gets another year in the OHL, he could start putting up really solid numbers. 53 points in 68 games ain't nothing. Plus he's still young, and not too small, he still has time to grow an inch or two.

@MyWordsReignSupreme So you are trolling, you know Cowan has a game 25-game point streak, tied for longest in London Knights history, plus, unlike Robertson in the minors, Cowan also plays on both Power Play and Penalty Kill. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make, Holmberg is getting top 6 minutes (successful draft pick), Lilijegren is doing extremely well as Brodie's partner (successful draft pick), Robertson is always in the lineup and shows his talent all the time (successful draft pick), and Knies is playing on the wing of Matthews or one of Marner or Nylander (again, successful draft pick). What are you trying to get at? Or are you just one of those people who likes to comment on something just to be rude online? Because so far, all you've said is my scouting is bad and nothing else. How about try to EXPLAIN why my scouting (which I don't think I was doing) is bad instead of being tiresome online?

Winning a Cup is not in this organisation's agenda. If it was, they would have done it instead of the six-year old Vegas Knights. The object of this team's owners is to make a profit and as long as they can get gullible people to buy tickets they're happy. If they really wanted to win a cup they'd trade Mathews and a couple of others for skilled young Canadian-born players who want to win more than anything.
