  • Riding a FZ-07 into Fort Myers Beach to see some of the Hurricane Damage that remains over a year after the storm. We eat some shrimp, meet a local on his scooter and get yelled at by ranger. Enjoy this episode of Hood Eats Brian 636!

    I grew up here in Fort Myers and lived there majority of my life before moving near the mountains of Oregon 7 years ago. I haven't been back yet since the hurricane. Thank you for the video, its gonna be hard for me coming back and no longer seeing so many places that I grew up around. My momma lives just 3 miles from Fort Myers beach, I'm so grateful that she made it through the storm alive. Thanks again Brian.

    From Ft. Myers. A big problem with Ian was that power was lost in a lot of places, including mine. We went to bed thinking Ian was hitting more around North Port. Without power and the masses of people bogging down 5g, we honestly had no idea the storm was rolling over us directly. We just couldn't access radar. It wasn't until trees were getting ripped out of the ground that I looked at my kids and said the storm shifted and we are in it.
    For a lot of people that have never been in a hurricane, sure it sounds scary. I mean, it isn't a walk in the park. But really it is the days after that are the worst. Cutting your way through all the broken trees, no power, sleeping in the Florida heat, people fist fighting for gas. You see the brotherhood of man during disaster, and that is there is none. It is everyone for themselves. Luckily Publix opens nearly immediately and still accepts debit/credit cards and sometimes they have ice.

    Hey brotha man, I was an essential worker doing security in the days following Ian, it was absolute chaos. The grocery store that supplied the locals on the main strip of FMB didn’t reopen for almost a year. It was a real hassle for anyone to even get basic necessities for a long while after the storm. Thanks for showcasing this area man! I’d love to be able to talk about it more with you because there’s so much that people don’t know about what happened on Sanibel/Captiva Island and the surrounding areas.

    Yeah Ian really did a lot of damage to south florida. Theres still even super expensive beach water businesses that are still doing construction. One of my buddies lived near the water, there were boats in the middle of the roads, in houses, on houses. It was truly crazy. Plenty of insurance companies fucked people out of their houses and not covering for loopholes and shit. Thought I had saw you when I was out riding lol. Preciate you brother. Hope you have a great rest of your day :) (if youre still here and want to ride id be down)

    I’ve lived in Florida my entire life. Born and raised 1/2 my life in Delray/Boca Raton, then the past 20 years I’ve been in Port St . Lucie, if there’s anything I have big respect for and don’t have any interest in provoking any natural disaster it’ll be the ocean. My best friend was living Sarasota and he left came back to PSL for the storm, even us here on the east coast had some serious wind and rain definitely not as bad but it was pretty strong

    My parents have a place inland Ft. Myers and we have been going and staying on Ft. Myers beach for 20 years and my dad had been there since the 80s, first guy to run parasailing on that beach. Sad to see the devastation, couldn't bring myself to go see the beach this Christmas. My biggest fear is it will be rebuilt but will be completely corporate owned, with Margaretville already reopened, I see most of the land being bought up and turned more into a completely different beach. Ft. Myers beach definitely had a unique small old beach town feel prior to the hurricane and I really hope it comes back. I know some iconic places like the cottage is trying to reopen under new owners but a lot of the original owners of the famous spots are selling, and I can't blame them.

    Hey. Just wanted to clarify something for the viewers that was mentioned about Margaritaville. The original Margaritaville is in Daytona Beach and is now a chain of resorts. The construction of the one in this video started a couple of years before Hurricane Ian. Originally, Fort Myer's residents did not want it because Fort Myers was a chill beach town and residents thought, because of the size of the resort being built, it would be about all Margaritaville and no longer about the quaint beach town that it was prior to the hurricane. Now, it seems that this resort may be a lifeline for the area, bringing tourist back to help out the other businesses that are still hurting. So contrary to what Brian said about it being torn down by the hurricane, it was under construction when the hurricane hit and recently opened a portion while the rest is still under construction. I live about 2 and half hours away in SW Miami but we stay on Estero Blvd in Fort Myers every summer because it's family friendly, unlike south beach, and Miles of white sand and things to do for the kids.

    • @StevenHawkingsSpitrag
      @StevenHawkingsSpitrag 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I grew up in Hollywood and the Margaritaville they opened up down here on the beach was unwanted as well. I can’t say how good or bad it was for the city, cuz the tourism has always been strong here, but it’s definitely changed the Broadwalk and in my opinion not for the better.

    born and raised in fort myers. that bridge that goes above the gas station you showed in the beginning of the video is maybe 3 miles away from the beach. i got stuck there three days after the storm trying to get to my old job to check out the damage and see if i still had a job to go to. so much sand and debris washed up and i couldn’t see how bad it was till it was too late. had to leave my car there for a few days before a tow truck could get to me. it’s heartbreaking to see the only home you’ve ever known and all the people in it, fall apart. thanks for making this entertaining while still showcasing all the death and destruction done by ian

    The difference is that destruction was caused by a storm from nature. Chicago and Detroit was destroyed by people. Ft Myers will be rebuilt and thrive again. Not sure about Chicago or Detroit.
