    It been a while since I've been seeing silly comments about Bjj that is not effective in real situations. I don't go to class and play guard in sport bjj since 2015 because i think It will help me in a street fight, I do that because it's funny and I stay fit doing that. But I just know that if punches are involved, I would never play any guard, closed, half, sitting etc and I'll always try to be the guy on top. Even if someone project you, get the f**k up, protect the chin from blows, get an underhook and be the top guy. It's still bjj and the top passing game its still effective. End of the story.

    This is why Olivera vs Islam is so monumental.
    The natural style of BJJ is submissive and Islam's background of Sambo is an aggressive grappling. Both high class.
    We'll be getting to see which form of grappling truly supercedes the other in MMA

      Super excited for that fight! Sambo does have jujitsu though. Wish they had Sambo where I live, it's like mma of grappling. Grapling has changed so much since I first learned. I just don't like the sport aspect because of habits you can accidentally build.

  • @rgrapplerinoc2617
    @rgrapplerinoc2617 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree and also disagree. It's not an absolute. Yes you do pass guard in "real" fighting. Whatever "real" means, because, what BJJ is it real fighting? It is, fighting with our striking. And it's real. It's it bulshido. Striking from top is not as easy aals it appeals to be, especially when the bottom guys is well skilled fighting back off of his back. And that's what we specialize in at my Gym, The Gladiator Fight Academy.

    If it was a mma match or street fight, there will also be upkicks coming your way so his advice, "in a REAL fight" (an admission to the passive nature of bjj), just straddling a shin isn't gonna be a very easy job.

    • @tjl4688
      @tjl4688 ปีที่แล้ว

      Upkicks are a risk, yes, especially in MMA.

    Actually bjj was meant for the little guy to DEFEND himself against a bigger enemy. Now tournament bjj is different from mma. Come on professor if your a teacher you should know the history of what your teaching. A great student has a wise teacher. Also bjj you learn not throw punches because your more likely to get hurt instead you learn to protect yourself and control the situation. Your right about Tournament bjj and mma being different.

  • @quasar8744

    It's better to train MMA if you want to fight with strikes, but if you want to stay away from brain damage, wrestling and bjj is good

    • @tjl4688
      @tjl4688 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need to train MMA unless you're training for MMA. For self-defense, you just need to include training against a striking (i.e. punching/headhunting) opponent. Normal people flail and go for your head, they're not trained MMA fighters, so you should train against the things untrained people do.
      BJJ works against strikers, always has, it's what made the system so famous. But you need to do the specific training for it.
      Whenever I put on the gloves, I see visiting purple belts become white belts when I'm allowed to punch them.

      Yeah.. good to drill it in your mind while rolling. I do it all the time and ask my partners to tap me for fun so I can see what works. I don't like how it became real sport driven. Don't get me wrong I like that but hate building bad habits

    It’s crazy how ppl come for BJJ because we have no strikes yet in boxing I can’t take the fighter to the ground…. N they don’t even kick. Yet nobody comes for boxing or muy Thai

    The Asian guy in the back ground has a permanent look of surprise. You can tell it's just his natural look. Poor guy lol
