      I can now send this to the person I told you I would give the second DaVinci Resolve Studio license to, so we can use the BM Cloud to work from opposite sides of the ocean.
      Thank you!

    A friend recommended this video to me because I'm in that spot where I will need to branch out for clients, but have no idea where to start with a portfolio. Thank you so much, this gave me hope. I just have one problem that I'll still need to get past, and that's the fact I can't afford any of these stock sites' subscriptions just yet

      There are free stock footage sites as well, like Pexels, but they don’t have nearly as large a selection and the footage isn’t quite as high quality

    I think if you are using stock footage to market to the music biz, the most important focus is the person singing or soloing and unfortunately that would be pretty hard to pull off. A good idea would be to get a friend or even yourself to lip sync - the lack of nobody actually singing, makes the music video a little bit unnatural and gives away the illusion. You could however wear a mask, or put tons of kiss like makeup on, and/or throw a really heavy effect on the clips - but seeing someone sing in a music video is really important, unless you have a really strong story.
    But in most cases it will be a band choosing you to do their video.
    Most of my work in the 15 years has come from the music business, I was hired because of my past experience in the music business and thinking and interacting with musicians.
    But your good advice for people there, to target different businesses or even categories of businesses. It is my experience that if you have a bunch of commercials for lawyers - other lawyers think you are the one they should choose etc. . Even though there is nothing different to know, the inference is you would be better for them.
    That is great advice Jay. You have to draw a map for some people to see by them visualising themselves in your video. Congrats again on the 40k.

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Thanks Jim! I agree that having a singer in the video would have helped a lot, and believe me, I searched for one that would have worked in the video, but eventually I just had to say "Done is better than perfect," especially since the goal is more to show off your editing skills, and part of that is working with the footage you're given. Thanks so much for watching Jim!

    Well I think the story was there, and a few of the drum solos and guitar solos fit, the couple fighting was a great match to the song and how it escalated through the story, however no one singing up close in that natural emo emotion with the crazy hair the dim light and the wild makeup it fell through on those parts. that being said I think from stock footage it was great!.

    So I’m 17, I’ve been editing for a round 4 years and I’ve had so much experience with different clients and different types of videos. My problem is that I’m too diverse in my editing and I don’t know how to organize all the stuff into that portfolio. Like I manager social medias while editing tiktoks and reels for them, but I’ve also done music videos, highlight reels, twitch intros, and a bunch of other fun edits. Should I make a website or something? This video is really helpful for like one specific thing yk

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on where you’re putting your portfolio. If it’s a website, than you can have one page for each type of work that you do. If it’s a TH-cam channel that you’re using as a portfolio, you can use playlists.

      Absolutely! There are a ton of videos on my channel that can help. I would start with my How to Cut Footage Like a Pro playlist!

    i dont know man , i think the video that you make or same as your music video is so simple , i mean evry guy that know cutting can do that , and there is no somthing special , you think this level of work is enugh for a portfolio ?

      Oh god no, that was just an example for the purposes of this video. If I was making it for my portfolio I would spend a lot longer on it. I allocate a specific amount of time to work on TH-cam videos, and this music video, along with the main video all had to get done in that time.

    Do you do this for a living how much money yearly can you make video Editing

      Depends on the size of the projects and the amount of projects you do, but if you make a name for yourself, a lot.
      And I don’t do much freelance anymore. TH-cam pays the bills so I can spend more time working on writing my own short films, which is what my ultimate goal was in the first place.
