I still enjoyed the game, but it fell flat compared to FFXV. XV had a much bigger map, you could drive/fly a car, drive a boat, play as the four bros, and the weapons were awesome. XVI feels too textbook oriented, as in it focused more on the story than the actual gameplay. Clive doesn’t really stand out as an FF lead character, he just has a single sword, a majority of the cutscenes is just dialogue and monologuing and you don’t necessarily explore the world. You just fast travel to the mission, do it, then go back to the hideaway. I love a game with a good story, but it needs to be balanced with great game mechanics (that’s kinda why Kingdom Hearts is my favorite game series). Overall, it’s still a great game and I do recommend it. But compared to other entries like FFXV, VII Remake, and Dissidia, it just didn’t hold up. That’s just my opinion of course

I think it's because I feel like the series has not hit it out of the park since FFX. Not counting FF7R as it's not really the mainline series anymore. It's more of it's own thing at this point. I have honestly lost hope for the main, numbered series.
@@RoshadLamar I can jump on with this statement, same goes for kingdom hearts square hasn’t hit it outta the park since 10, but a lot of people are liking this mix of Kingdom Hearts and Devil May Cry gameplay. There’s a lot to like here, side quests suck, but the main story is interesting and Clive is one of the better protagonists they have had since 10.
It also feels a little bit of what KH4 should do with its combat especially with reaction commands and there are some brilliant ideas if they wanna bring back dual wielding it’s an important game for square whether you like it or not plus they didn’t overhype 16 like kh3 and FF15.
It's impossible to pick a true Final Fantasy game because they're all different. But XVI's RPG elements are very shallow and every weapon and level feels streamlined. It can be action/adventure if it wants, but it could've been at least straightforward imo

@@JSwag_Reviews RPGs don't have to be turn-based for me, my definition of an RPG means that you can build up your characters, explore freely, go to new shops and towns, play with numbers, things like that. I can't shake the feeling that XVI holds your hand through your growth
@@domino6490 it definitely does, but it’s going for more cinematic story telling and in my opinion there should be a little bit more open areas and abilities, but other then that I’m really enjoying the game, but people like Jeff Gertsman famous critic for some reason thinks that it has to be turn based because if the gameplay centers around action some people write it off as an action game and I hate that.

It is 100% not a final Fantasy, it's a below average game with a final Fantasy label on it to sell it. I love the series but this is piss poor. Dead dialogue, mono-toned voices, poor interaction visuals, no secrets, no special weapons, no mega bosses and so much more. I had fun the moment I stopped treating it like a final Fantasy and just played it as A game. Some of the movies are amazing and great moments so some positives absolutely but it's really sub par FF

This story was very gnostic so I would say its definitely final fantasy. I loved all the characters because they wers realistic and not as super fantasy related like other final fantasies which isn't new. I can't wait to see them in dissidia. And I feel the play style help displays power better and gives a way to properly scale other final fantasy characters

I felt like JoJo I felt like Dante I felt like Vergil I felt like Ashura from Ashuras wrath and I even felt like I was in a actual cutscene from a fantasy game when I was using these attacks then the people from DMC came in the Mix with gameplay another + and the game has a harder difficulty when u complete it lastly DLC is basically confirmed for it too. That was a master piece man.
I finished the game and I agree with most of what you said. I spoke with a few people I know who also bought the game and we are all pretty much on the same page. My cousin couldn’t even finish the game cuz he said he got bored and I don’t even blame him lol. It started out so strong and it was cool as a one time thing, but I just don’t wanna play it again. There is no way this game is an 8, 9, or 10 like so many have rated it. It’s a 7 and that’s being incredibly generous. 7 remake’s combat is perfect, but in this game it’s full on flashy action. And the story is definitely disappointing since it’s straight up boring sometimes with generally boring characters (Byron was my favorite). Although there are a few things that I don’t agree with or are just wrong (mainly minor things). First, Clive being called Cid did make sense for the most part: he took up the original Cid’s mission of helping bearers and destroying the crystals. Also, keeping the name of Cid alive would also help keep people’s spirits up. It’s not a super great reason, but whatever. The next few things about the combat are kinda minor. Zantetsuken DOES one hit KO every non boss enemy, but you have to upgrade it to unlock Lv 5 Zantetsuken. Lv 5 will for sure kill every enemy, it was essential for me wiping out bad guys in the last stretch of the game on Ash because there are like a million enemies there. In the video your gauge went up to Lv3 Zantetsuken max so maybe you just didn’t upgrade it. Also there technically are weaknesses. On the right side of the screen it’ll say “Eikonic vulnerability” for certain eikons, but it barely makes a difference so I’m not surprised you missed it. FFX is my favorite game of all time. While I miss the turn based RPG battles, I do understand why they are moving away from that, even if I don’t like that. Also I still feel like in a way we are all responsible for what we got. By that I mean that the entire internet complained about FF15’s empty open world, unfocused story, and more modern setting. With 16 they ended up giving us the exact opposite of that, and we are still unhappy. Like you said, maybe I need to just learn my lesson and stop buying mainline FF games cuz we just gonna end up disappointed lol.
There are plenty of open world games with good story in them. It’s just that this game went overboard trying to cater to popular things. DMC Combat, Game of Thrones story, except both DMC and GoT did it WAAAY better. They need to go back to basics. No turn based is fine, but keep some dang strategy in the game. Make interesting characters and don’t kill all the good ones off like Cid and Benedicta. Make a good, marketable villain, not some weirdo telling riddles with a God complex. At least Sephiroth looked and sounded cool. Ultima only had a cool name, not design and was boring.
I would change that "is not a good final fantasy game" to "I personally did not enjoy this final fantasy" in no way is this game bad, just because it changed its direction doesnt mean its bad, but nor is it perfect
Ive only played a few hours. Im already thinking "im gonna get bored, way too easy". I love combat like this but its not fun if its damn near impossible to loose. I actually like that its action. But.......theres tons of games that do action rpg way better.

Nah it’s a game I can play, I couldn’t even get into the other Final Fantasy, but this one definitely was interesting to play with a good story, but I did find side missions bad.
The Final Fantasy games do have different teams behind them. So yes, Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII: Remake weren't developed by one conversing crew. And there's nothing wrong with that.
The quality of 16 is far higher. The 14 team created an incredible game here only thing that wasn’t great was the weapon system being incredibly simple. But the combat has a ton of depth of you choose to engage with it and the story is top notch. Exactly what you’d expect from the 14 team it’s what they do
@@5278ryan Well I completed all the challenges and hunts in the game and don't agree with the combat having depth at all. Maybe a little, but not much compared to many other games. I explained plenty of reasons in the video. I am glad you enjoyed it, but not for me. I also can't see how anyone could defend the side quests of this game and try to claim they are good. Most people defending the game just conveniently ignore the side quests. Optional or not, they are part of the package.

This game is almost exclusively story driven during your first playthrough the creator did this by design and said the first play through is about the story and the second play through is about the gameplay. The side quests have a lot of fantastic story. Not all Of them are groundbreaking but they do an excellent job of building the world. The game has a ton of depth combat wise on ff mode and ultimaniac. Do you know anything about rift cancels? Cold snap cancels? Lightning rod techs, point multiplier techs, multi zantetsuken stagger windows, mega flare techs and a bunch more to cover as well. Just because people are too small brained to explore the depth and min max doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

These "advanced" techniques your mentioning are not listed anywhere within the game. This is not a competitive fighter or smash brothers. This is an RPG. I am looking for elements, status effects, etc. Not necessarily highly advanced exploits. There is a big difference. Literally every Final Fantasy have some VERY advanced things that you can do. That doesn't mean that the combat in general has "depth". Again, I mentioned very specific examples in the video. Just because you don't agree with these points doesn't mean that you can just ignore them like I said nothing at all. I won't bother reiterating every single point made in the video.

Absolutely! There is no point in sharing an opinion if I am just lying for clicks. I know a lot of folks who agree with me as well. FF7 Remake also sold and I'll bet will inevitably outpace this game over time as the new release hype dies down.
FF is all about changing in every game, play 9 and then 10 and tell me how different they are, or 13 and 15. Its how they keep it fresh. Imagine just keeping the exact same formula 16 times for over 30 years

I love it. I been playing FF games since the ps1 and love how they've evolved combat wise and visually. Same story in so many ways but they do it so well that it feels different in a way to me at least

My man, I don't think I can understate how sad it is that you think Tifa or Aerith are the best the final fantasy series has to offer for its women. Even putting aside my biases for Jill as a subtly powerful and emotionally intelligent character, it's very apparent that you lack the experience with the franchise to judge whether or not it is a "good" final fantasy game. From the sound of it, you genuinely have no idea what even is a good final fantasy game.
I don't know what you mean by lack of experience. I have literally played every Final Fantasy game except for 11, 14, and Type 0. Most of the numbered games I have completed several times. I just don't think this games story and gameplay can hold to candle to the games of the past. Also, I am not a big fan of subtly powerful characters. Literally every character in Final Fantasy games go through struggles. Jill's difference is that she basically doesn't say or show much personality to go along with her subtleties.
All i can say is that this was not "Your Final Fantasy" I can agree some side quest may have been long and with story but thats because....its telling a Final Fantasy story my dude. Dont get any obvious then that. I have no issue with the game being a success but, as it currently stands, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has more sales and acclaim from both fans and critics alike. Whereas lots of people dislike 16 and think it’s a boring experience after the first 5-10 hours. Over time, this will not translate to being one of the greatest Final Fantasy games.
You get 37 abilities spread across 8 different eikons. That's already plenty, considering you can equip 9 abilities at a given time. Any more than that, and you're honestly asking for a clunky gaming experience as you switch between eikon sets to use abilities. Seriously, this game has a very flexible combat system that allows for a lot of options and experimentation. Nothing is inherently overpowered or underpowered, so it's all up to player input and creativity. TL;DR Git gud, scrub

I'm not a huge Final Fantasy fan, but I'm a huge Action Rpg fan like Elden Ring and Monster Hunter. FF16 being an ARPG now, would you recommend this game for me?

For real, I went on metacritic and like 99% of the user reviews that gave it a 10 start with “I’m only 6 hours in but this game is the best”. I’m like bruh. I also loved the demo, but right after that you go to Cid’s hideaway and it’s like the game immediately got boring.
So many things in this review are factually wrong. Such as it being a button masher and the story being confusing and convoluted. Its like you didnt play the game. Not once do you ever need to open up the compendium to understand the main story. Idk how you can make so many points about a game in what was supposed to be a review without any examples to back them up.
In order to understand the history of the nations, you literally have to read about it. They don't go into any detail about Rosaria's history with the Iron Kingdom compared to what you can read about. That is just one example of many. That was the whole reason they put the compendium there, is so that confused people could fill in the gaps.I have a full understanding of the story and lore, I just don't like it.

Sorry, that was all explained to you through both in-game dialogue and a cutscene given by Vivian Ninetales in the main story, literally just before you go to destroy the mothercrystal over there. Anything explained in the compendium about that history and plot point is given to you in that cutscene. Why the Iron Kingdom got ahold of Drake's Breath, why they have been at war with Rosaria, the religion of theirs and the fact they start wars with every nation because they want control of all the mothercrystals. Everything single thing regarding that history (which is not related to the immediate plot, but given anyway) is given to you there. In addition to all that, you have the dialogue with Jill when she wakes up detailing what the Iron Kingdom did to Rosaria after Phoenix Gate, the convo between Clive and his father at the start of the game, as well as some brief comments on the religion given by one of Clive's imperial companions at the start of the game before your fight with Jill. in the main story for that. Any other little added text given in the compendium is not needed to understand the main story at that time and why you are going there with Jill to destroy the crystal at that point. And dude I've played the game, the amount you are given in the compendium is NOT significantly more than everything I've said above that you are given in the main story maybe even more than that but that's all I could remember at the moment. Do you have any other "examples", out of the several that you supposedly have? If not, I rest my case.
@RoshadLamar Also, you have yet to explain how this is just a button masher. Just because you chose to use only 10% of the tools given to you in the game doesn't make it a button masher. I can play Elden Ring, mage build r1 spam r1r1r1 and beat the whole game like that. Does that make Elden Ring a button masher?? On FF mode, you also would need to be using more stuff. There are eikonic abilities and eikonic combos, utilities, precision dodge, guard and various counters, aerial attack combos (such as aerial combo + Titan). There is Burning Blade and charged magic, and you can even go a full magic build if you use some accessories and spec right, such as into Bahamut. In addition, there is Rift Slip and various eikonic abilities that synergize with each other, such as Permafrost + Dancing Steel, Lightning Rod + Gigaflare, Titan Guard/Garuda/Phoenix Counter + Rift Slip + anything else, etc.

Yes, you get Vivian later in the game and that was incredibly helpful, but she doesn’t appear until like the third and final leg of the game. And the whole state of the realm thing should’ve been there waaay before then because there are so many kingdoms to keep up with. Before then I was reading up on the compendium constantly and I still was unsure who was who. Characters kept throwing out terms like “royalist” and “loyalists” and I had no idea which kingdoms they were referring to. For a good chunk of the game, I thought Cid, Benedikta, and Barnabus were all from Sanbreque, because Waloed was like barely mentioned until the end. I must’ve been like 40 hours into the game before I had a decent grasp on the political landscape of the game. Also for a compendium so detailed, it’s also incredibly, frustratingly vague. Leviathan is mentioned once as being a lost dominant or something, but there’s nothing in the compendium about why. There are implications about there being a whole world out there besides Storm and Ash, but there is little to no information about them. There was also some stuff that didn’t make sense. One example is Jill, the compendium said she was princess from the north that was made a “ward of Rosaria” after Clive’s dad “United” the northern territories. So the Rosarían kingdom conquered them, took their princess, and now she is treated like Clive and Joshua’s sister? And she’s cool with that I guess? Idk. There’s some other stuff, like why magic users are treated as branded but dominants are not (aside from the Iron Kingdom), as well as the whole bearers being slaves instead of revered as chosen ones (yes I know that side quest with the forbidden book touches on it, it’s still a tough sell).
@BlackWolf207 Waloed and Sanbreque are bitter enemies and are fighting each other after you kill Benedikta. Surely you can understand that when you saw the battle of Dion and Barnabus. Also, throughout Benedikta's arc, it was clear she and Cid were not imperial. For one, an empire is run by an emperor, not a king, which they kept referring to during that time. Benedikta's group talked about imperials being enemies the entire time and even took over an imperial caer. All of Lostwing was talking about it at that time. Surely, if you were reading (main story) dialogue, you would clearly know this and know they are from a rival nation. Cid also tells Clive Benedikta's group are Waloed's Royal Intelligencers and explains they are the Kingdom of Waloed's task force for assassination and subterfuge. This is all in the main story. Either you skipped entire segments of dialogue and cuscenes completely during Benediktas' entire arc (these distinctions between Waloed and Sanbreque were mentioned several times), or you are feigning ignorance. Either way, you are not supposed to know too much about Waloed or Sanbreque that early in the game before Benedikta is killed, you learn as you go, and more info is revealed naturally. 2. Jill's background is explained thoroughly in the main story. And early into it by Clive if I remember. He explains Jill's country (Northern Territorial Alliance) was one of the first victims of the Blight. Because the Blight reached the main cities, the mothercrystal, Drake's Eye, lost its power. So the Northern Territories started wars with Rosaria and incessantly raided them hoping to eventually advance and take Drake's Breath (which at this time was not controlled by the Ironblood), when Clive's father fought back and quelled the raids of her country, he conquered them but was lenient and showed mercy, and a peace treaty was made. Jill was taken in as a ward (a hostage) but treated very well by the people and Clive's family despite everything her father and country did. This was to make sure Jill's father would honor the terms of the treaty and refrain from starting another war. Again this part is also briefly mentioned by Vivian Ninetales just before Clive goes to Drake's Breath. You can't miss either of these parts of the story, and it is certainly not needed to go into the compendium to learn any of this. As for the lands outside Valisthea, they are outside the game and no one in the continenets have explored them. If there was, they'd have to be more prevalent in the game, get it? And that would make this game another 20 hrs long.
I literally saw some streamers saying their views were going down while playing through this game compared to other games. It's because it gets boring after a while.
@JoyfulUniter No, I'm bored of people wanting every character to look hyper anime. The characters look great and fit the world they're in. Perfectly. Also MMORPGs often have even better designed characters than most single players. Emet-Selch > everyone.
I am not sure what this means. There are other video reviews on youtube with some others being way harsher than me and saying some similar things. Even plenty of comments on this video say they dislike the game for the reasons I mentioned.

06 was squares last great year with FF10 and KH2.
Im a hardcore FF fan and i really enjoy 16 so far even it more Devil may cry than FF style, but it still have the FF spirit that i love.

My first was ffxv and I really loved the game, and I also love ffxiv but I wasn’t really a fan of ffvii it was good don’t get me wrong but not my fav, I’m probably gonna give it another chance though

It is 100% not a final Fantasy, it's a below average game with a final Fantasy label on it to sell it. I love the series but this is piss poor. Dead dialogue, mono-toned voices, poor interaction visuals, no secrets, no special weapons, no mega bosses and so much more.
I had fun the moment I stopped treating it like a final Fantasy and just played it as A game.
Some of the movies are amazing and great moments so some positives absolutely but it's really sub par FF

This story was very gnostic so I would say its definitely final fantasy. I loved all the characters because they wers realistic and not as super fantasy related like other final fantasies which isn't new. I can't wait to see them in dissidia. And I feel the play style help displays power better and gives a way to properly scale other final fantasy characters

I felt like JoJo I felt like Dante I felt like Vergil I felt like Ashura from Ashuras wrath and I even felt like I was in a actual cutscene from a fantasy game when I was using these attacks then the people from DMC came in the Mix with gameplay another + and the game has a harder difficulty when u complete it lastly DLC is basically confirmed for it too. That was a master piece man.

I finished the game and I agree with most of what you said. I spoke with a few people I know who also bought the game and we are all pretty much on the same page. My cousin couldn’t even finish the game cuz he said he got bored and I don’t even blame him lol. It started out so strong and it was cool as a one time thing, but I just don’t wanna play it again. There is no way this game is an 8, 9, or 10 like so many have rated it. It’s a 7 and that’s being incredibly generous. 7 remake’s combat is perfect, but in this game it’s full on flashy action. And the story is definitely disappointing since it’s straight up boring sometimes with generally boring characters (Byron was my favorite).
Although there are a few things that I don’t agree with or are just wrong (mainly minor things). First, Clive being called Cid did make sense for the most part: he took up the original Cid’s mission of helping bearers and destroying the crystals. Also, keeping the name of Cid alive would also help keep people’s spirits up. It’s not a super great reason, but whatever.
The next few things about the combat are kinda minor. Zantetsuken DOES one hit KO every non boss enemy, but you have to upgrade it to unlock Lv 5 Zantetsuken. Lv 5 will for sure kill every enemy, it was essential for me wiping out bad guys in the last stretch of the game on Ash because there are like a million enemies there. In the video your gauge went up to Lv3 Zantetsuken max so maybe you just didn’t upgrade it. Also there technically are weaknesses. On the right side of the screen it’ll say “Eikonic vulnerability” for certain eikons, but it barely makes a difference so I’m not surprised you missed it.
FFX is my favorite game of all time. While I miss the turn based RPG battles, I do understand why they are moving away from that, even if I don’t like that. Also I still feel like in a way we are all responsible for what we got. By that I mean that the entire internet complained about FF15’s empty open world, unfocused story, and more modern setting. With 16 they ended up giving us the exact opposite of that, and we are still unhappy. Like you said, maybe I need to just learn my lesson and stop buying mainline FF games cuz we just gonna end up disappointed lol.
I liked 15 by the end of it when they added all that shit to it.
There are plenty of open world games with good story in them. It’s just that this game went overboard trying to cater to popular things. DMC Combat, Game of Thrones story, except both DMC and GoT did it WAAAY better. They need to go back to basics. No turn based is fine, but keep some dang strategy in the game. Make interesting characters and don’t kill all the good ones off like Cid and Benedicta. Make a good, marketable villain, not some weirdo telling riddles with a God complex. At least Sephiroth looked and sounded cool. Ultima only had a cool name, not design and was boring.
I would change that "is not a good final fantasy game" to "I personally did not enjoy this final fantasy" in no way is this game bad, just because it changed its direction doesnt mean its bad, but nor is it perfect

The Final Fantasy games do have different teams behind them. So yes, Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII: Remake weren't developed by one conversing crew. And there's nothing wrong with that.

The quality of 16 is far higher. The 14 team created an incredible game here only thing that wasn’t great was the weapon system being incredibly simple. This game is almost exclusively story driven during your first playthrough the creator did this by design and said the first play through is about the story and the second play through is about the gameplay. Of them are groundbreaking but they do an excellent job of building the world. The game has a ton of depth combat wise on ff mode and ultimaniac. Do you know anything about rift cancels? Cold snap cancels? Lightning rod techs, point multiplier techs, multi zantetsuken stagger windows, mega flare techs and a bunch more to cover as well. Just because people are too small brained to explore the depth and min max doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

These "advanced" techniques your mentioning are not listed anywhere within the game. This is not a competitive fighter or smash brothers. This is an RPG. I am looking for elements, status effects, etc. Not necessarily highly advanced exploits. There is a big difference. Literally every Final Fantasy have some VERY advanced things that you can do. That doesn't mean that the combat in general has "depth". Again, I mentioned very specific examples in the video. Just because you don't agree with these points doesn't mean that you can just ignore them like I said nothing at all. I won't bother reiterating every single point made in the video.

FF is all about changing in every game, play 9 and then 10 and tell me how different they are, or 13 and 15. Its how they keep it fresh. Imagine just keeping the exact same formula 16 times for over 30 years

My man, I don't think I can understate how sad it is that you think Tifa or Aerith are the best the final fantasy series has to offer for its women. Even putting aside my biases for Jill as a subtly powerful and emotionally intelligent character, it's very apparent that you lack the experience with the franchise to judge whether or not it is a "good" final fantasy game. From the sound of it, you genuinely have no idea what even is a good final fantasy game.
I don't know what you mean by lack of experience. I have literally played every Final Fantasy game except for 11, 14, and Type 0. Most of the numbered games I have completed several times. I just don't think this games story and gameplay can hold to candle to the games of the past. Also, I am not a big fan of subtly powerful characters. Literally every character in Final Fantasy games go through struggles. Jill's difference is that she basically doesn't say or show much personality to go along with her subtleties.

I have no issue with the game being a success but, as it currently stands, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has more sales and acclaim from both fans and critics alike. Whereas lots of people dislike 16 and think it’s a boring experience after the first 5-10 hours. Over time, this will not translate to being one of the greatest Final Fantasy games.

You get 37 abilities spread across 8 different eikons. That's already plenty, considering you can equip 9 abilities at a given time. Any more than that, and you're honestly asking for a clunky gaming experience as you switch between eikon sets to use abilities.
Seriously, this game has a very flexible combat system that allows for a lot of options and experimentation. Nothing is inherently overpowered or underpowered, so it's all up to player input and creativity.

Not once do you ever need to open up the compendium to understand the main story. Idk how you can make so many points about a game in what was supposed to be a review without any examples to back them up.
In order to understand the history of the nations, you literally have to read about it. They don't go into any detail about Rosaria's history with the Iron Kingdom compared to what you can read about. That is just one example of many. That was the whole reason they put the compendium there, is so that confused people could fill in the gaps.I have a full understanding of the story and lore, I just don't like it.

Sorry, that was all explained to you through both in-game dialogue and a cutscene given by Vivian Ninetales in the main story, literally just before you go to destroy the mothercrystal over there. Anything explained in the compendium about that history and plot point is given to you in that cutscene. Why the Iron Kingdom got ahold of Drake's Breath, why they have been at war with Rosaria, the religion of theirs and the fact they start wars with every nation because they want control of all the mothercrystals. Everything single thing regarding that history (which is not related to the immediate plot, but given anyway) is given to you there. In addition to all that, you have the dialogue with Jill when she wakes up detailing what the Iron Kingdom did to Rosaria after Phoenix Gate, the convo between Clive and his father at the start of the game, as well as some brief comments on the religion given by one of Clive's imperial companions at the start of the game before your fight with Jill. in the main story for that. Any other little added text given in the compendium is not needed to understand the main story at that time and why you are going there with Jill to destroy the crystal at that point. And dude I've played the game, the amount you are given in the compendium is NOT significantly more than everything I've said above that you are given in the main story maybe even more than that but that's all I could remember at the moment.

@RoshadLamar Also, you have yet to explain how this is just a button masher. Just because you chose to use only 10% of the tools given to you in the game doesn't make it a button masher. I can play Elden Ring, mage build r1 spam r1r1r1 and beat the whole game like that. Does that make Elden Ring a button masher?? On FF mode, you also would need to be using more stuff. There are eikonic abilities and eikonic combos, utilities, precision dodge, guard and various counters, aerial attack combos (such as aerial combo + Titan). There is Burning Blade and charged magic, and you can even go a full magic build if you use some accessories and spec right, such as into Bahamut. In addition, there is Rift Slip and various eikonic abilities that synergize with each other, such as Permafrost + Dancing Steel, Lightning Rod + Gigaflare, Titan Guard/Garuda/Phoenix Counter + Rift Slip + anything else, etc.

Yes, you get Vivian later in the game and that was incredibly helpful, but she doesn’t appear until like the third and final leg of the game. And the whole state of the realm thing should’ve been there waaay before then because there are so many kingdoms to keep up with. Before then I was reading up on the compendium constantly and I still was unsure who was who. Characters kept throwing out terms like “royalist” and “loyalists” and I had no idea which kingdoms they were referring to. For a good chunk of the game, I thought Cid, Benedikta, and Barnabus were all from Sanbreque, because Waloed was like barely mentioned until the end. I must’ve been like 40 hours into the game before I had a decent grasp on the political landscape of the game.
Also for a compendium so detailed, it’s also incredibly, frustratingly vague. Leviathan is mentioned once as being a lost dominant or something, but there’s nothing in the compendium about why. There are implications about there being a whole world out there besides Storm and Ash, but there is little to no information about them. There was also some stuff that didn’t make sense. One example is Jill, the compendium said she was princess from the north that was made a “ward of Rosaria” after Clive’s dad “United” the northern territories. So the Rosarían kingdom conquered them, took their princess, and now she is treated like Clive and Joshua’s sister? And she’s cool with that I guess? Idk. There’s some other stuff, like why magic users are treated as branded but dominants are not (aside from the Iron Kingdom), as well as the whole bearers being slaves instead of revered as chosen ones (yes I know that side quest with the forbidden book touches on it, it’s still a tough sell).

Waloed and Sanbreque are bitter enemies and are fighting each other after you kill Benedikta. Surely you can understand that when you saw the battle of Dion and Barnabus. Also, throughout Benedikta's arc, it was clear she and Cid were not imperial. For one, an empire is run by an emperor, not a king, which they kept referring to during that time. Benedikta's group talked about imperials being enemies the entire time and even took over an imperial caer. All of Lostwing was talking about it at that time. Surely, if you were reading (main story) dialogue, you would clearly know this and know they are from a rival nation. Cid also tells Clive Benedikta's group are Waloed's Royal Intelligencers and explains they are the Kingdom of Waloed's task force for assassination and subterfuge. This is all in the main story. Either you skipped entire segments of dialogue and cuscenes completely during Benediktas' entire arc (these distinctions between Waloed and Sanbreque were mentioned several times), or you are feigning ignorance.
Either way, you are not supposed to know too much about Waloed or Sanbreque that early in the game before Benedikta is killed, you learn as you go, and more info is revealed naturally.
2. Jill's background is explained thoroughly in the main story. And early into it by Clive if I remember. He explains Jill's country (Northern Territorial Alliance) was one of the first victims of the Blight. Because the Blight reached the main cities, the mothercrystal, Drake's Eye, lost its power. So the Northern Territories started wars with Rosaria and incessantly raided them hoping to eventually advance and take Drake's Breath (which at this time was not controlled by the Ironblood), when Clive's father fought back and quelled the raids of her country, he conquered them but was lenient and showed mercy, and a peace treaty was made. Jill was taken in as a ward (a hostage) but treated very well by the people and Clive's family despite everything her father and country did. This was to make sure Jill's father would honor the terms of the treaty and refrain from starting another war. Again this part is also briefly mentioned by Vivian Ninetales just before Clive goes to Drake's Breath. You can't miss either of these parts of the story, and it is certainly not needed to go into the compendium to learn any of this.
As for the lands outside Valisthea, they are outside the game and no one in the continenets have explored them. If there was, they'd have to be more prevalent in the game, get it? And that would make this game another 20 hrs long.

It's better than FFX. Stop being on the nostalgia train. FFX is just as linear as FFXIII but has extra bad voice acting.

The bosses were the only thing that I enjoyed all the way through. Otherwise, I had problems with pretty much everything.

Sounds like you don't like any of the modern games. I do like FF7R. Love it actually. For more classics, you'll need either Steam or a Switch. Octopath Traveler is amazing!
@RoshadLamar Yeah , I didn't like the change from turn based combat, it's not like turn based combat doesn't appeal to people with the many examples to support that.
But I'm glad some people love the change , just not for me 🤷♀️
I think the game is incredible, all of the other FF games are boring I’m my opinion.
