ISTANBUL KUMKAPI | Kadırga, Sultanahmet mosque | 4K Walking Tour

Kumkapi, located within the borders of Fatih district of Istanbul; It is one of the districts of the historical peninsula on the coast of the Marmara Sea. It is surrounded by Kadırga in the east, Gedikpaşa in the north and Yenikapı in the west. In the Byzantine period, it was called Konto kallion, which means small pier. The Kum Gate, from which it got its name, was the fifth of the city gates on the coast of the Marmara Sea when you proceeded east from Yedikule, in the direction of Ahırkapı.
There is still an Armenian school and many Armenian churches in Kumkapi, where Armenian-origin citizens lived heavily until recently. The Istanbul Armenian Patriarchate is also in this district. Kumkapı, which also hosts the station of the Sirkeci-Halkalı suburban line with the same name, is one of the districts of Istanbul famous for its fishermen and taverns.
