This is so interesting! I’m a 3L, but I’ve always done public interest and will post-grad, too. It’s so different so it was great hearing about your experience. Congrats on the job!

Thanks for making this! Considering Illinois Law and a few other schools. Question re: clerking. Are you interested in clerking? How hard is it to get a federal clerkship from Illinois Law?

i’m not interested in clerking but i know a ton of people at Illinois who are. unfortunately i don’t know anything about the clerking process but i would assume it’s pretty hard to get a federal clerkship from Illinois just bc the T14 dominates a lot of that market

thank you for sharing this sahar! i'm also a first gen law student and i find pre-OCIs very frustrating. i know its the growing trend in hiring summer associates but it feels like the deck is stacked against students who don't even know about pre-OCI hiring, or don't have those connections or know that they should be making them ahead of time. but alas, that's the game that we have to play haha. would you mind sharing how you networked during the month you worked in june? did you take time out of your workday to network or was it an evening/weekend thing, based on the alumni's availability? ty!!!

i worked part time over the summer (3 days a week) so i would schedule a lot of calls on my days off, but i would also have calls in the evenings or during my lunch breaks. i don’t think i had any calls over the weekend though. i was lucky to have supportive supervising attorneys during my 1L summer so if i ever had a call in the middle of the day, i would just let them know i had to step out for 20 mins and they were totally fine with it!
