Hi everyone! I hope you guys have been safe and healthy during all this. I realized that so much of the protocol must have changed at ODS since I went in June 2019. As of today (06AUG2020), I've been following some people on their IG going through ODS now. It seems like everyone is being quarantined for 2 weeks at a hotel, getting meals delivered 3x/day, and expected to join in on online lectures with socially distancing PT. After testing negative, they will be moving back to King Hall to finish the rest of the program; I'm suspecting they won't be able to go outside of base like I mention in this video :/ Overall, I hope you'll find tidbits of information from this video still helpful. Hey! I commented on one of your videos before haha but I'll be starting dental school this August in the Navy HPSP! (By the way, I love your videos. They're so informative!!) I was wondering if it's better to go to ODS earlier or after graduation, or if there are any benefits for one over the other. Is the pay different or something? I personally plan to go after I graduate dental school for the information to be fresh in my mind before I start. But a lot of my HPSP classmates say they're going after their first year of dental school. My recruiter has also told me I should go as soon as I can. Is there any reason for that, other than to get it out of the way?
Hey hey! So there really isn't much difference except if you get through ODS sooner, you just go straight into active duty when you graduate. You will still get paid equally since it is based on rank/grade and you'll be an O-3 either way. I guess you'll get an earlier start to your 4-year contract and getting paperwork done too. I have a colleague that went before he graduated but he kind of wishes he went after graduation so that everything is fresh when you become a LT. But pretty much all the dentists who were in my class all graduated first. Overall, it is up to you. I only had 1 week breaks during dental school, so I didn't have that choice. Hope this helps!

Hey, thanks so much for this video series. It helps a lot and I'm super pumped. I can't remember if it was on one of your videos or elsewhere, but do you have to pass the PRT to pass ODS? I've recently injured my wrists and hip and I'm potentially getting a slot for the June or July course (perfect timing 🙃). The injuries aren't terrible, I can still to the PRT, but my push-up numbers have really suffered (can still get like sat-low before it's pushing it and it's difficult to stay in the up position for longer than 75 sec let alone 2min). Run might be a tad slower, but 1.5mi isn't *that* long to push through the discomfort and keep up the speed (and I can do 25min straight, just that's where I really have to slow down and not push it to avoid further injury). Sit-ups/plank are unaffected. Just so you don't think I'm crazy: I am taking a full rest from everything high impact for the next week or two and switching to swimming and plank/core only routines until I'm better. But it's really pushing it close to the next ship date of not being able to do my full fitness routines 😬. I mostly just want to be reassured that, in case of the worse case scenario that my fitness completely falls apart, it only counts towards my 2 failures in 3 years but I can still pass ODS. Thanks so much
Hi Khan! Aw jeez.... hoping for that speedy recovery :( As for passing, I'm not 100% sure but my thoughts are since you have an injury, you shouldn't have to do at least the push-up section. There were a handful of people who got injured during ODS - stress fractures etc. Who couldn't participate in PT or PRT. I'm sure there is probably a note that goes into your record on why you don't have a score. Outside of ODS, instead of running, you can substitute the stationary bike. And I've heard that we might be implementing planks soon too? I'd let medical know ASAP if you're still going in June/July so that they can put it into your record. No need to force yourself during a time of healing. Good luck!!
Good evening Ma'am I was active duty as a Master-At-Arms and now I am reserves, but my regular job Im an NYPD Cop I have started to make videos to help out veterans to understand their benefits, and such. I'm not doing it for fame or anything but I thought maybe you could take a look and perhaps refer your enlisted subordinates. I'll make sure I refer anyone who is interested in the HPSP/ ODS to your channel. If you ever decide to go reserves when you have met your obligation, or want to go work in for the VA or another federal agency my videos, while not as articulate and well edited as yours contain lots of good info about retirement and benefits. I have two of my friends whom I served with enlisted currently using HPSP, you can spot them cuz they're gonna be the ones in ODS with racks of ribbons and warfare pins lol.

Hi Evan! Thanks for watching (: I apologize for not knowing the exact field, but I do believe we had a few cyber security (?) officers and I want to say a nuclear engineer (?); I think those were the most similar to Intel. But yes, majority of my class was medical, nurse, dental corps.

Other videos I've watched have said upwards of $3,000-4,000. Do you know why the difference? Also, I've heard you can buy the uniforms, or pieces of them, beforehand and bring them. Do you know how much truth there is to that? TIA :)
Hey Sara! Thanks for watching :) Wow 3-4 grand? Mine definitely was not that much :x I'm not sure if they were in a different program or maybe they had to buy other uniforms? I bought 1 khaki uniform, 1 dress white choker, 1 summer dress whites with their matching shoes. And then there were little things here and there like insignias, belts, PT clothes, combination cover.
I'm prior enlisted coming back as a registered dietitian. Can you elaborate on what you remember from them? Most of what you said sounds like a dream come true compared to my deployments, but I'm older and while I'm still in shape I don't exactly recover like I did when I was 18 in boot camp.
Hello! I've unfortunately not had the opportunity to meet dietitians. I honestly didn't know we had a program in the Navy for those positions, but that's great to hear. I wish I was as active when I was 18 too haha. I've met enlisted Sailors that joined later as well, and they're doing great. I hope you can find out more information about the dietitian track though. Sorry I don't have information for you in regards to that.
I honestly never broke mine in haha. I don't know of anyone that brought their own boots prior to ODS though. Get a good pair of thick black socks and I got silicone heel and toe protectors on Amazon to help with any blisters. Possibly good insoles may help? When you get a chance after ODS, get your hands on a pair of coyote boots. They are sooo much more comfortable. Unfortunately, you can't wear them at ODS. I'd wait until you check-in to your command. You may be assigned blue or green side and they are different from each other. Always check the local thrift stores for used ones for a better price!

Thank you! Just pushing for it, and I'm sure it will work in your favor. I'm unfamiliar with the process of commissioning as an intelligence officer, but as a general rule - Practice your interview. Try to simulate some common questions you think they will ask and have a solid answer for them (i.e. - Why do you want to follow this field? What qualities make you a great candidate? etc.) Be honest with your answers and show you are dedicated to the Navy! Good luck!

You can actually drill once you join your unit. Once you graduate ODS, then you will be able to go back to regular monthly drilling. Also, I don't think you will be going to ODS as Supply. You would most likely be in OCS which is a completely different intensity and length (13 wks as opposed to 5). Hope that helped.

Hi, congratulations! If you do not pass, it is not punitive. They will work with you until you do. I wouldn't stress too much about it. As soon as they open back up, I'd get some practice in though.
Just take some notes and pay attention to lectures. If quarantine measures are still in place, you will have live online lectures. They should be able to provide the power points as well! Don't sweat it.

Correct. I was awarded the Navy Dental HPSP when I found out I got into dental school. I swore in as an O-1/ENS. I completed 4 years of dental school and commissioned into an O-3/LT. I went to ODS a month after and have been serving active duty since then.

Hi! Do you have swim training in ODS? This may be a silly question... Do you need to be good at swimming if you enter the navy as an officer (like if you are in the medical field...nurse)? I have heard you swim laps or jump in a plank into deep water in PT
Hi Michelle! No, you don't get training at ODS, so I recommend maybe taking some swim classes prior so it'll be a piece of cake! I mention in the videos the tests you're expected to pass. The links in the description box will show exactly what those qualifications are. Good luck!!

Thanks for your support. I'm not sure how the reserve side works with dentists. I'm active duty, so I can only expound upon that.

I would recommend it just in case they decide to test you on it. It's always good to be over prepared than under.

Yes you do. You had to keep it in your locked wardrobe though. You can access whatever you want during your personal hours.

Hi! Do you have swim training in ODS? This may be a silly question... Do you need to be good at swimming if you enter the navy as an officer (like if you are in the medical field...nurse)? I have heard you swim laps or jump in a plank into deep water in PT
Hi Michelle! No, you don't get training at ODS, so I recommend maybe taking some swim classes prior so it'll be a piece of cake! I mention in the videos the tests you're expected to pass. The links in the description box will show exactly what those qualifications are. Good luck!!

Hi! I don't think we had a chaplain but it is such a different mix every class. I hope you start soon! We had some older officers (priors) that were in their 30s too!

@@genesisguerrero413 Hello I did, however when my packet was approved the Navy did not have Reserve slots open. So I commissioned in the USAR.
