  • Today, we are exploring a massive Walgreens Headquarters in the Midwest. This place closed down a couple years ago and was emptied out. I think they are getting ready to sell the place or demolish it. The owner has added 24/7 security after they found all the graffiti inside.

Pretty cool. I was surprised to see that they did not have a mockup store in there. A lot stores like Walgreens and CVS will put in a fake store just to try new things in before rolling it out to the real stores.

That's in Lincolnshire. This is just one group of buildings that Walgreens once occupied. They still have others. At one point there were about 10 buildings in that area they were in, including their original headquarters down the road that they are still in.

This building is a monument to all of the workers that spent countless hours and money of their own to drive to Walgreens Headquarters to help some rich guys get richer. I hope those workers are now at home, safe and productive as I'm sure most of them are.

@@IIVIIJI in 2007 Walgreens started replacing ALL its people with people in India. So, it is not surprising that the place sits empty. Kind of shocked that it didn't happen long before this. I worked here for 5 years until 2010 and the plan was to cut our floor from about 30 developers to 5 managers that would only coordinate with people from India. We were told they were going to hire 10 people in India for each employee replaced. I left because I didn't like replacing everyone like this. I also had no desire to become a babysitter and no longer a developer. I loved coding then and I still do today.

They need real homes, not abandoned corporate offices. Can you imagine the smell, violence, drugs, sex, piss, shit, and overdosed dead people lying around. When COVID happened and people began working from home they realized they didn’t need certain staff to work in the office anymore.
