    Yes. Just keep shooting. Everyday.
Whatever you want, no such thing as a perfect camera; each one has its own purpose . Bottom line is to put in those reps, learn and have fun. Great stuff and glad to see this rhythm of more vids. Thanks again!

Somewhere I read that you should think of a photographer as a chef and a camera as a stove. People congratulate a chef for a fabulous meal. Very little credit goes to the stove even though some stoves may be much better than others.

Every time this subject comes up, I think of my waterproof point and shoot, which has a 2/3" sensor, and terrible IQ. I treat its rendering as a feature, not a bug, and I make beautiful images with it. See also: pinhole..

This is so true. I'm no budget hobby photographer, having only entry-level DSLR, I focused seriously on learn exposure triangle and other important principles that will help me know how to take nice photos than less on which gear to use. But yeah, watching some gear reviews still good though, at least it keep your photography fire inside you continue burning, but this just me. Thank you for the video. 👍

I love film but not remembering camera settings is definitely something that I miss out on. Especially because I'm not all that great at shooting manually. Great video, it's easy to get caught up in getting new gear when you really don't have to.

whoa its like we have the same mind! I'm now a father of two beautiful children and I need to direct my funds to the more important things in my life - my kids!
I've got a bunch of kit that fills different needs but I've also stopped listing after gear.
I've found the gaps in my kit, filled them, and now I'm focused on photo taking.
    great vid!

I agree about not wanting to wait for film to tell you how good or bad your aim and settings were. Learn on digital and accept happy accidents with film. Enjoy both.

So happy to have come across your channel. I’ve been into photography on and off since the mid 80’s starting with film, then reluctantly going to digital with small 4 megapixel sensors up to a Nikon D850 and finally ending in mirrorless with a Z9 and Z6III. I still have an F5 which has only come out for B&W and a D200 cause I just really like the CCD sensor. When most people see my pics they really can’t tell which camera I used, only if the picture is good. You’re absolutely right, it really doesn’t matter if your gear is old or new, Nikon, Canon, Sony or Fuji, it’s knowing your gear, its quirks, strengths and weaknesses. I’ve come to learn that photography is a perishable skill, if you’re not shooting all the time you start to forget little tricks or you don’t see improvement and that can be discouraging. BTW, love the picks around the parks, look forward to your next video.

Strangely, in relation to the music comparison, i always had the compulsion to be practising, gigging, recording, learning etc. If i wasn’t, i would feel guilty. Like i am wasting time with other things. It drove me to practise guitar upto 8 hours a day in my late teens and whilst in College. I have made my living as a professional musician so i guess it paid off.
With photography, for me, it is different. It’s a release, a cathartic experience and whilst everyone wants to improve, it kind of doesn’t matter; the meaning is in the making……i don’t have to depend on producing amazing results. There is a freedom in that for me.
I can’t escape the enjoyment or perhaps curse of new gear. The dopamine hit is real! 😂
    Great video; thankyou.

Thank you. I have the XT20 and planning to get a used Sigma 18-50mm for the sole reason of constant 2.8 aperture. I'll start learning composition as soon as I get the lens.

Very timely. I’ve been doing photography for 15 years, and working as a photographer for the last 5. I’ve been looking at a Leica M6 for a long time. I started on film, have been shooting digital, but have been wanting to go back to film after all these years.

    • @MikeLikesChannel

If you’re working as a photographer you should treat yourself to a Leica M6. It’s a tax deductible business expense.
It’s us hobbyists and weekend warriors who have no logical excuse for it except “want”. My problem is Leica is already slowing service on it. They’ll tell you to buy their current M6 😔

I've been working as a photographer for nearly 40 odd years. My "workhorse" film cameras are all well over 60 years old on average. I've got cameras that are over 100 years old that I use for commercial shoots.
My digital cameras are 4 Canon 5D MK IVs, 2 5D MK IIIs and a Hasselblad H6.
I tell people get good lenses before you get a better camera. Customers don't care about the type of camera you are using or technical aspects. They want an image that meets their needs. If you need something better for one shoot, rent it.

Glad i randomly got a notification of this video. What a coincidence, I’ve been looking at the Lumix S9 the last two days and this title appears. I will no longer buy the Lumix S9 and continue to use my Nikon Zfc. Thank you for the reminder we do not need the latest camera. Shoot what you have and upgrade when you need it.

This is actually very good advice. It's fine to shoot on A or S but know why you're choosing that, and watch the camera's choice on the other exposure triangle settings. Subscribed :)

Canon eos R and 28mm is enough but before this conclusion I’ve tried so many cameras and different focal length. For sure the camera isn’t the most important part (books are crucial), but a camera that inspire you to get out and take photos is important too :)

To a degree, I do agree that gear does matter. I use A7iii and 1DX model cameras for work. Neither of these cameras excite me to go out and make photos just for me, instead of clients. Last year I purchased a Leica camera, it is my goto, daily carry camera which has re-ignited my personal photography love, making photos for me. New cameras wont make better photos, but they do give you the drive and excitement to go harder and shoot more. It's no different to getting a new girlfriend or wife, the excitement starts again, the romance is hotter than ever. Prove me wrong.

    • @MikeTheFinder
      @MikeTheFinder  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

“Even a Ferrari ends up with McDonalds bags on the floor eventually.”
That excitement will die down eventually and it’ll just be another camera. But if it’s getting you excited about taking photos, more power to you! I just think in the long run, if you can keep that excitement about the creative side of things, you’ll have a better chance of keeping that fire burning longer. But as with anything else, better tools can make it easier to get into the groove of creating. Nothing wrong with that.

Great video, not only because I agree with so much of it, but because it is well considered. I use R5’s for work, and they are just work horses, I can say I have no emotional attachment to them, however brilliant they are, and they are brilliant.
The greatest enjoyment I get is from my decade old 5D MkIII, which I use for my non work related photography, and, occasionally it makes it on my professional shoots.
In addition I always shoot in manual, it gives genuine control, even/especially in street photography. As an aside, I have a Canon G5X with me all the time, and take random pictures whenever something catches my eye.
All my kit, including the R5’s have been bought second hand, and honestly, I could have run on with the 5D MkIII for my commercial work a lot longer, that’s my lesson learned 🙁

Wow. I'm actually headed to Disney for NYE. There is a spot next to coral reef restaurant at Epcot where the monorail crosses in front of Spaceship Earth. My wife caught a great picture on her phone of it. Just point and shot. Everytime ive attempted to take a picture on my phone of a monorail, it's always out of focus with Soaceship Earth in focus. I'm just beginning with photography and got an NEX 3 (super old and not great but I'm hoping with the an ok lens that I can take some decent pictures). Any advice on capturing the shot with the monorail and Spaceship Earth in focus in the early evening/night with the monorail lights lit up along with Spaceship Earth?

    • @MikeTheFinder
      @MikeTheFinder  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I have a few photos that I love, that were shot from the monorail. The trick to that is a really fast shutter speed which you may have to compensate for with higher ISO and then you can clean up all the noise in post, but I actually made an entire video on tips for taking photos at Disney World so I would also go check that out for more. Thank you for watching!

@MikeTheFinder awesome! I'll check it out. Literally was just scrolling through and saw the monorail thumbnail and instantly tapped to watch. Lol

"Buying a new gear to go out to shoot"... Funny, I never have this obsession on my photography life, only when I got my first camera that I get excited to shoot. Buying a new gear to me is not getting excited to shoot, but got curious and excited of new technology and innovation. I mean getting excited to shoot because of new gear is plain idiot.
