The "Danger" dance practice is one of my favourites....it's amazing. There is a MV too, but the dance practice really shows the intricacies of the choreography. Their connection to and appreciation of ARMY is what drove their success. They could have put in 16 hour days and still not have been successful. They show us their true selves and that makes for the most loyal fandom I have ever seen because we see them as people, not just as stars. They have this talk (called a ment) at every concert...including these last 4 days in LA. They have made ARMY and BTS into a symbiotic relationship. It's kind of genius and the fact that they are so genuine makes it an unbreakable bond. I agree with you that if people would give BTS an open minded chance, they would be pleasantly surprised.

Yes, they stop and talk to the audience a couple of times throughout the concert, but the last one we call their ending ments (comments). They made me cry on Thursday in LA with their ending ments. RM actually did cry. Their talks are always very sincere and vulnerable. Also, the whole stadium sang happy birthday to Jin. :)

Jin told us why he put special ornaments in his hair for the encores for each of the LA concerts during the ending ments. He wanted to make ARMYs happy. The best one was his ‘son’ RJ. Which other artist would tie a stuffed toy alpaca to the back of his head to make their fans happy? Did it work? It certainly made me smile.

It’s crazy to see that concert and then remembering how big was their latest, I saw them in LA days ago and it was beautiful and huge, they truly deserve all the good things that are happening to them

Working out helps them a lot with their stamina. They run on the treadmill and sing at the same time, that's how they train to sing with stable voices during tough choreography. Also ments , aka talking time with fans during concerts, are quite common in the industry. It also helps the artist to rest a little inbetween.
Personally I love "Tomorrow" so much, especially the guitar. Suga and Slow Rabbit produced it and I'd love to kiss their feet for the guitar in this song. Also about Suga trembling ... back then he battled with depression and anxiety (he unloads a lot of it during his 1st Mixtape "Agust D" under his alterego "Agust D") and to this day he isn't the fondest of crowds and attention outside his bubble or on stage. If he's out and about, he keeps a very very low profile and usually you find out where he was days after it happened.
I think what i dig most with BTS apart from their music is the fact that they have both feet firm on the ground. Like if you look at JK, who went into all of this at like 13 ... things could've gone SO badly up his head but none of the 7 is arrogant or snobby or thinks they're the absolute king.

Good news: BTS just announced that they're taking a break for the holidays, which means they won't attend any year-end award shows and perform there. This is the first time that they will be able to spend Christmas with their families in 8 YEARS. First time since they debuted. In their whole career, they've only taken one other break, which was in 2019 where they got to rest for 3 weeks.

I think they're only not working out for leisure or as a hobby, but also for strength and endurance in performing hard core choreographies. I also read somewhere that they practice singing while running in a treadmill for additional stamina and will get used to singing and dancing at the same time in their performances

    • @pyejammiesfanfic640

The singing while running on the treadmill is a myth. I can’t remember which one of them put us straight on that. It sounds like a good idea though.

What got me was how BTS always say at any chance they get - that they will work harder to not let us down, to make us proud - I had never heard of artists doing that like usually it's "you can love me or hate me, take it or leave it this is my art" type attitude but these guys are all like "I'm so thankful you decided to like us, we will make sure to work hard so you won't be embarrassed about liking us" like just makes me cry these guys, who does that?

I went to their concert in LA a week ago and twice during the performance they stopped and each said something to ARMY. Thoughts feelings, stuff they wanted us to know. Some spoke in English and some used an interpreter. My sister in law went to their Thursday concert (they did a total of 4 concerts) and the things they said in that concert were totally different than the things they said opening night when I went. Just sincere and from the heart. Some of them cried while talking on the night I was there, and other members cried the night she went. They love their ARMY. I filmed the whole speech. It was 15 minutes long. Also, as far as the stamina, they have oxygen machines and they take oxygen back stage at the concerts. You could see Jin doing it for a minute in this video.

BTS to this day stop the music and welcome the audience with a small introduction, speech , even have a talk at halftime( ask if they are having fun, make a a wave), and end it with a small farewell speech, and tell ARMYs to get home safely. Lol. They did it at the 70k 4 night sold out crowd at Sofi stadium last week too.

27:28 speaking of break, they're now having their break with their families after their successful concert... also since it's almost Christmas, I just remember their song "Typical Idol's Christmas", it's a funny song, they called out their company for still doing practices on Christmas day and not having their breaks, and that they can't date so how are they supposed to write love songs

Being in a small company as an idol in Korea doesn't necessarily mean u have more creative freedom. As you already know there are hundreds of labels with so many groups. We know the 'big three' but there are so many small businesses in Korea who make idol music. And, many MANY of them will use the same idol training system that was created by SM's creator and have the idols just sing and dance. All idols work so hard, people don't expect them to write lyrics and produce music as well, it's a whole 2nd full time job and many idols aren't even interested in that, and that's okay.
Basically I wanted to say that there's many groups from small companies that have the same amount of creative freedom as blackpink (almost none 🥲)

This is an odd comment maybe, but it speaks to your words about the connection between Army and BTS. When they were first starting out, you know how poor they were and how little they had. Army sent them a lot of things, practical things like blankets and towels and household goods. One thing that they sent was a little set of colored bowls, nothing fancy, just a basic set of small food bowls. BTS used them then, very happily, but years later, when they had made it big and they were rich, honestly rich, they were moving into their big apartment complex. There, on the kitchen counter of their group kitchen, lovingly wrapped from the move and set out to use, was that same set of little bowls. That's something very real, you can't fake that. That's the level of respect and appreciation they have for Army and that they get in return.

  • @DareDreemer

Closing ments. That's what they are called. Short for closing comments. All kpop groups do this. It isn't just a BTS thing. All kpop artists tend to have an opening ment, a ment in the middle of their concert and a closing ment. Closing is usually the most heartfelt though. Kpop concerts usually run for 2 to 2.5 hours. No opening acts, (once in a blue moon there will be an opening act for special promotions). You pay to see the artist and therefore you get the entire time with that artist.
All kpop artists are dependent on their fandoms. Without the fans they have no career. The kpop industry works very differently than the music industry over here in the states. You can't really compare the two. The companies work differently as well.
To perfectly frank, the only thing comparable to the kpop industry is sports.
Just thought I'd drop that tid bit.

We did the same when a family from Thailand who bought the house the other side of us. We called them Auntie and Uncle. I don't think everyone still does it now but I know I got called Auntie only last sunday by one of the younger children at church because she wanted to tell me she liked it when i played my guitar in the worship band.

We love those vlogs too. They basically made us feel closer to them and we can sincerely feel how they're so genuine with their words and actions. The whole kpop industry and their stans kept mocking bts saying they only got popular because of this and their other social media activities. I know BTS and BH didn't intend it to play this huge part in their popularity, all they wanted was to express themselves and be real. What they actually did unintentionally was to develop a much more meaningful and loving relationship with us, their army. We may sound delusional and crazy for those outside the fandom, but we never felt like we're just fans for BTS, they treat us like family and friends. And you'd only be able to understand this when you become one of us.

  • @Belbecat
    @Belbecat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

I think their success only looks decent without context or comparison - what BTS achieved in 5 years is maybe popularity a group like Black Pink/Exo achieved on day 1 sort of thing. In regards to respect in the kpop game in Korea is another story too, I think they were more popular overseas before they were seen as successes in their own country.

    • @djlivvy46
      @djlivvy46 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

To give your comment more context and comparison, we know that the Korean music industry made things very difficult for BTS because they did not come from a Big 3 label as Blackpink and Exo both did and that is why their success took so long to achieve.
And ‘more popular’ is a relative term. Their success would never even have been possible without the loyalty and hard work of the original Korean Army.

39:00 it's pretty common in Asian country singers will have several talk with the fans in between concert, not just BTS or not just Korean singers/ groups. I had been to Taiwanese, Hong Konger, Japanese concert, they all do small talks in between, just chatting/ joking with fans or saying gratitudes e.t.c. often at least stop in between concert 3 times.

You know there's a saying within army that goes like 'you find BTS when you need them the most'. And I know that's true at least in my case. I found BTS 6 years ago, I was 16 then and with a major case of depression. I didn't feel like going out or talking to people, everything felt too much to me then. So I used to spend a lot of time surfing the web and accidently happened to hear a 2 sec clip of Jimin singing. I got curious, checked them out and honestly, in a way I'm here now because of them. I won't say they saved me, that'd be too much. But they did give me 'time' you know. And back then I desperately wanted time, just time to breathe and time to live and just time.
Initially they were just a distraction. Their music was great, dancing was fantastic and they had beautiful personalities too. But then I slowly started listening to them you know, like their lyrics and messages and it touched a part in me. I remember just bawling my eyes out listening to their tracks Whalien 52 (Lonely Whale), Move, 2,3 ! and, I don't know one second I'm crying because of their music and the next I'm laughing because of their videos. It felt like I could finally feel. And also our fandom, the army truly felt like an honest community. People that I could agree with, people that understands me. It feels like a family.
I guess you can feel this palpable love between army and bts, because in a way we both grew together. They are my life's artist. My first and only catharsis.

Yoongi was advised to work out after a routine medical. Jimin decided he needed to develop his shoulders again to help his dancing. JK, Jin and RM just love working out. Trainees have their day split between dance lessons, singing lessons, acting lessons. If they go to school they go first and come back and work late into the night. Once they are in a group then they are learning their routines then practicing as a group but also recording their parts in songs. If they are producers they have that to do too. Yoongi struggled for three weeks to produce one of their first songs working through the night with his equipment on a table in the practice room. That’s why he was always tired and was literally falling asleep on his feet. It was worth it as he is now a well respected award winning producer with his own studio at Hybe which he calls the Genius Lab. Then there are gruelling concerts and TV shows, award shows and promotions. They travelled a hard road and still do. Life as an Idol is draining. The only rest they get is while they are on a plane flying to another country.

When you were talking of signing contracts with big agencies and mentioned it could be a problem because of owing more money - I think your thinking of western companies too much. In K-pop trainees typically have to pay back companies for training, promotions, etc. The small to medium sized company's pretty much enforce this because they need the money. However, the larger companies usually don't make them payback the money. If you are with a big company and start selling music and having concerts right away, you can start receiving part of the revenue. If you are from a smaller company and only having moderate success, it can take 3-4 years to start being paid anything. Some groups breakup with members basically not making anything.

I don't see anyone talking about Supreme Boi but he was one of the rap trainees supposed to be a part of BTS. But he left BTS before their debut although he stayed as a BigHit producer up to this day. Recently he is back in the news again after NCT was accusing of plagiarizing a TXT song (TXT is under BigHit). The issue was settled out of court and suddenly Supreme Boi and another BigHit producer are on that NCT song's credits 🤣.

The Sewol Ferry tragedy was something dangerous issue back than. The government would ban any celebrities that dare to speak up. But, Bang PD (Big Hit CEO) & BTS secretly visited the families (of the victims) & made a donations (even when their company was struggling). And when people in powers try to burry this case, BTS dare to make a song about it : "Spring Day" --- the song is fine. But the MV is dangerous. ARMY said that it's a Queen of BTS songs, cz it never left the Korean chart (since 2017 - now).
Like RM said, "BTS will follow BTS path."
That's make them different & special.

The fact that their homeland still dont do much justice 'til this day ...
Big Hit/HYBE dont (or may be just won't) pay much to Korean media, so the domination from the big 3 is still strong (especially the biggest one).
Imagine a song remake won grand prize over an original super hit #1 Billboard, wrote by original BTS member.
Not to mention their company try to copy the concept of BTS come back & variety show, but never want to admit it. And their fanpage/fandom have to use hyperbolic words to convince people that their idols still on top : "Our group is dominating world wide..." --- or mention how beautiful/perfect their idols are, etc. But never ending of down playing BTS.
Nah! Like company like fandom act the same

sometimes these videos are so misleading to people who don't know kpop and only get into it with BTS because they compare BTS with western artists and get all "wow, they are so special, so unique, we don't do that over here" but that's often not BTS thing but kpop thing. for example, like ments (chats) here. ALL kpop acts do ments in their concerts, literally every single one of them. same as performing Bsides mostly only at concerts. and training a ridiculous amount of hours. and going to school while being an idol (not all of them but most of them) and trying to connect with fans on a personal level, doing social media and livestreams and vlogs and such. and not actually having money for a few years because they are paying off their debt to the company. etc etc. or even just a korean cultural thing like "we'll work hard"
that's not to say BTS are NOT special, of course not. they are special in many ways. but a LOT of the things kpop newbies marvel at are not BTS thing but Kpop things, and people in the chat and comments not disclosing it is pretty misleading

I hope you know by now that BTS had fans ALL over the world from day one. I'm from Norway and I found them just a couple of months after their debut. Even though BTS is not mainstream here yet there are still a huge amount of ARMYS here. 💜 And so it was and still is in most countries around the world. In North Korea people face imprisonment if they are discovered listening and dancing to BTS. But they still do 💜

BTS make talks with the ARMYS. There is the opening comments/announcements; there is comments in the middle at the halfway point; then there is their ending comments at the end. But you can witness this in every concert. They often try to make their comments in the language of the country they are in. Or they have a translator that is awesome.
They still do this. They did it in the online concerts for viewers that tuned in and they did this for the 4 offline concerts in LA. They never fail to thank us ARMYS and make sure we know how much they appreciate us. If only more people showed the love and respect that BTS does. This world would be an amazing place.

    @megancash3990 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yeah, they definitely still do that ending talk to this day. I was fortunate enough to get a ticket to their PTD concert in LA last week. Near the end they say they're doing their "last" song and then afterwards they go backstage and change from their performance outfits into more casual clothes, usually tour merchandise. It's usually a 5-10 minute break while the audience cheers and chants and waits for them to finish changing. Because we KNOW the xoncert's not over until the ending meets are done. Then they come back for their "encore" tracks. Usually 2-3 more songs. No down they say their goodbyes individually. So each member gets the opportunity to says something to ARMY. And after that they perform the actual final song and take their bows. It's an incredible experience. And some feels very personal, even in a larger setting than their earlier shows, despite being only one of like, 50,000 people in attendance. It feels like they are speaking directly to you. Wow.
You're not wrong that things like that are a big reason why people love them. I've never in my life cared so much about an artist. But these guys are different. They make me care. And I love them for it.
    Borahae!💜💜💜

I think all K-pop groups do this interaction with their audience in concerts, not just with BTS. This ments (as they called it) is pretty common, really.

About the vlogs that you like because of its honesty, well Jimin did a video that was only released more than a year later. Probably because it was disturbing. He talked about being lost, wanting to give up and what made him stay.

I believe the camera is to document their journey. You notice there are no media cameras there. That's because they truly are there to help and not get publicity. Other artists should take note. As my mother taught me, you do something for someone because you want to not because you expect something in return (i.e. publicity). I wish more people would take the time to learn about BTS.

BTS talk to ARMYs 3x at their concert. Their greeting after their intro performance. The second time is in the middle. The last one is in their encore. Then the unending waves of goodbyes and shout-outs before they exit from the stage. Ni other artists in the world are more genuine, appreciative and cares so much for their fans more than BTS! BTS is the best! There’s nothing like BTS!

I was thinking while watching your reaction video today why on earth do I feel it's too short even though you're giving us 50 minutes reaction video. Hmm... One thing I can think of now is that your reaction video leads me to focus on BTS themselves, not the reactor himself. The Rise of Bangtan is great in that it just makes viewers focus on BTS, and you do the same. So it's like another genuine documentary of a good documentary of BTS, and it always turns out to lead to a 'true understanding of BTS'. I respect you a lot. Looking forward to a next episode :-) Thank you as always.

I think you just hit the nail on the head. They're not perfect and they're comfortable in showing that. And because of that, they help a lot of people because we can see the process. Amidst the Instagram culture where ppl only show the pretty side of things, Bangtan is such a breath of fresh air.

I understand your perspective Jims. But the thing is that, there's another perspective too if you think about it. The smaller companies doesn't have the "luxury" to afford their artists creative freedom compared to the bigger companies. The richer companies can afford to take the risks which a ready-to-die smaller company can not. I am not saying Big Hit was like this, I am just hoping you'd see the other perspectives and risk factors too.

For me that what makes BH as more humane. As they are small but give their trust 100% to 7 young adults and teenagers despite of the risk. Especially in their "I need U" era. Instead of following the trend on that year w/c to produce pop dance song, they took the risk of creating albums that involve the BTS members, by letting them to Co write so they can put their feeling and thought on their musics. It' s heavily revolved around mental health, young adult problems, loss, tragic and depression w/c taboo in sk in that year. I heard alot of horror stories how smaller company treated their artists to the point of abuse and sexual harassment to earn their keeps. Additional to the fact when it is BTS comeback season they just focus on their music and practice. BH never put them in schedule like modeling, advertisements or any other side hassle to earn profit especially they truly need it to gas their career. It's only cemented how BH cared BTS and treat them well by letting them to grow their artistic freedom despite of the company lacks of financial stability.

It's good to see you realise why ARMY become so frustrated everytime someone who didn't even heard BTS start throwing assumption about them.
As you said people wouldn't be this harsh about BTS and insult them as polished, manufactured, fake group follwed by bunch of horney teen age girls if they took time to listen to 5 tracks from BTS. But people don't give them a shot, insult them and when ARMYs fight back, call them judgemental, media portray ARMYs are 'toxic, immature teen age girls'... the absolute hypocrisy.

At 4:49 I will say (and will probably comment a few times) YES they are burning a lot of calories. I used to be a swimmer and doing just zoomba used to have me panting for breath when I was at my peak. Now I'm not at all in shape, but when I swam we burned hundreds of calories if not thousands per practice and I was half dead dancing Zoomby. (Gravity, hell of a drug).

Honestly, I became a fan of them a bit more than 6 years ago and now I don't follow then quite as closely as I used to (deleted my twitter and other stuff haha) but I still feel just as close to them and love them so, so much because of those vlogs. They really opened up so much and shared all their thoughts so readily -- and man, what deep thoughts they have!!! They don't upload the vlogs as much anymore, but they do have live sessions on the Korean platform V App.
Also, Tomorrow remains superior. Never fails to push me and give me strength whenever I need it.
++ bless those 3 ARMYs who have been helping you -- y'all doing amazing sweeties

Their concerts' ending ments are some of the most emotional, iconic memories for Armys. I especially love the one for the end their Wings tour in Seoul. I think parts of that is coming up in this Rise of Bangtan series. 💜
Definitely agree with you, these types of engagements with their fans are what makes them special. I've been lucky to attend many, many concerts in US by lots of different performers and most will only speak a little and only to introduce the next song or about the music itself. Rarely do they share any deep thoughts/feelings. BTS shows their authenticity and sincerity through these moments. Love it 💜❤
