I wish that more people could know that this recording of Oliver! is one of the best recordings of this musical. It has spirit, theatricality, verve and oomph and everybody fits their parts so well. I think this is probably better than the Jonathan Pryce revival recording. It has more presence, commitment and conviction.
I guess that's probably because it was filmed live with an audience, whereas the '94 recording was studio-produced. Whilst I can hear some fantastic performances in the older version, I agree this one is, on the whole, better
I'm pleased you feel the same way. Somehow or other I find that this recording is more theatrical than the 1994 Cam-Mack version with Pryce and Dexter. With this production the casting is perfect and well-chosen. The numbers are better able to express themselves clearly, notably Consider Yourself and Reviewing the Situation.
This is going to be amazing when my college does Oliver! I am playing Charlotte and a saloon girl! I'm more than excited to be a part of such a wonderful show! It's my first big speaking role and I couldn't be happier!

I always remember this. I played Bill sikes in our schl production of Oliver and I was under the stage in the dressing room and ahhh when you hear the band rumble then that powerful intro you know the show is starting. Miss it😭
I'm part of a performance in Invercargill, New Zealand. I'm one of the workhouse/pickpocket orphans and I'm amazed at the actors we have. I can imagine them becoming almost or maybe even on par as successful as the actors in this one. But for the meantime I have to worry about the set we have... It creaks and shakes but it's beautiful in it's own grim and dark way.
I remember going to see this. Harry was our Oliver, he was brilliant. I don't know who the kid was who played dodger but I think he could have actually given Jack Wild a run for his money! Amazing cast, worth every penny going to see.
Im apart of a stage school that is doing a mini version of oliver for our showcase. The youngest group of 3 - 5 year olds are doing this song and My God they are so cute doing it

Since it's said on Wikipedia (okay, unreliable source) that Oliver was played by four boys in this production, whose turn was it to play the part in *this* number? It was said to be Tom Rogers, Gwion Wyn Jones, Laurence Jeffcoate, and Harry Stott. So, which one's turn was it here? Anyone know?

So Laurence did play Oliver for like a year and Gwion played Oliver for 4 years he was in the UK tour in 2011/2013
