Hayes and Cary Ann could sing the Old Testament to me, and I'd listen for hours. This right here is how you take your music seriously without taking yourself too seriously.
You know, I was thinking of James Carville and Mary Matalin, especially the elevator scene. What and effing great story, video and song! Well done, sir. And a tip of the hat to Cary Ann Hearst. And I thought John Prine and Iris Dement hit that twang like right out of the trailer park with In Spite of Ourselves, but you two turned it up to eleven! Very well done!
Catchy tune...my bass player & singer added this to our set list a few gigs back, and it got stuck in my head for long enough that I had to look it up, having never heard it before. Great song.
Perfect ending with James Carville. Had to look up if they're still together and they are. Saw Hayes Carll last night, one of the best concerts I've ever seen! Great songs mixed with funny stories.
I discovered Hayes Carll, and this song, thanks to the 'Outlaw Channell' on Sirius XM Radio... They also have the Willie Nelson Channel, Prime Country, and a Bluegrass channel. There are no commercials, which really add to the listening enjoyment.. Don Was, Steve Earle, Cowboy Jack Clements, and Roger Alan Wade, with his cousin Johnny Knoxville,...have all been havin' regular weekly shows they host, with music they are into..For the cost of about three packs of cigarettes a month, its worth it
Seen Hayes a few times. He is always great. So cool to see Bret Gelman in this. The actress looks familiar but I can’t place where else I might have seen her. Was she on a sitcom? Anybody know?
+Danielle Watson A Man! I thought I had seen it all but then Florida Georgia Line comes along..I sure do miss my hearing but I just had to stick ice picks in my ears after them
Very funny "Your all American source for News. Owned by an Australian" "Should Jesus replace Abraham Lincoln on the penny" "Senate Republicans demand Copy of Obama's Drivers License" As if the lyrics weren't brilliant enough the captions under the news team were way too funny
Logan Kobza+ I was not referring to the actual recording techniques, ie. mic types or preamps used, I was commenting on his voice and singing style. THAT is my opinion. I came here to listen to the song with an open mind and possibly find a new musician I would like to listen to but I don't like his vocal style, delivery or his voice. It seems like he's going for this down home, laid back, country style and he just does not pull it off to my liking. There is no incorrect or correct when it comes to art or music and the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Im a very open minded person when it comes to music, I have over 40,000 songs on my itunes, everything from Slipknot, Nas, Johnny Cash, Jewel, Matchbox 20, Dolly Parton, Hendrix, Alice in Chains, Muddy Waters, Carrie Underwood, Howling Wolf, Guns n Roses, Social Distortion, Eminem and everyone in between. I'm a musician and I definitely try to be honest and not judge any musicians by anything but their songs.
I suggest you go listen to some other songs from Hayes that are not of the parody type. He is actually one of the most soulful singers around today if you listen to some of his other songs I think you will see what I am talking about.
Again, after eight years of the Obama administration if you consider this group of mostly successful, accomplished individuals who comprise the cabinet a "sitcom" it is you who may have perception issues. But it probably explains things like Will Ferrell and most of the shows that are on the ABC Network these days. Different strokes...
John Prine you’re not, Neil Young not even close and you’re not even in the same hemisphere as Bob Dylan… If you’re going to sing like shit at least write some songs with some substance.
Remember when we all used to just put aside "differences" and get along? Too bad that's over

Thanks for your help and support towards me 💓

Hi Spain
John Prine & Iris DeMint- "In Spite of Ourselves", that's what this reminds me of.
Thought the same thing.
Lon Fowler That’s one hell of a song, too!
Sadly now RIP to Prine.
@@AmyAnnLand Sad,,,RIP
My boyfriend showed me this song, and I fell in love with it's joking manner immediately, it's been one of our songs ever since.

Her voice is so distinct. Never forget the first time I heard shovel and rope.
Catchy tune...my bass player & singer added this to our set list a few gigs back, and it got stuck in my head for long enough that I had to look it up, having never heard it before. Great song.

So awesome.
I love it... The whole thing is great, especially the headlines!
Funny just found this singer and find out he will be in Boise this month. Looking forward to it.
Thanks for your help and support towards me 💓💕
This song has total "In Spite of Ourselves" vibes. I believe John Prine would approve.

The opening of the video is hilarious 😂😂😂
Love this song!!!
Song of the Year, regardless of genre.
Gotta love Carvell and wife 😂
This is what this country needs. A Democrat and a Republican set aside their differences and get something done.
oh they got it done alright
look at us now...
She sounds great with her husband, but she sounds great with Hayes Carll, too! This is hilarious!
Perfecto. My true life. Really. Happy Sunday.
Unity Party, baby!!!
Love this song, and the video is a riot!
Well done, See you Sunday in St. Louis! Can't wait !
@MyJunior1975 They play his song on the radio all the time here in Texas, been hearing it on the radio for the past few months or so.
never thought i would hear james carvilles say Jamiroquai.
Seen Hayes a few times. He is always great. So cool to see Bret Gelman in this. The actress looks familiar but I can’t place where else I might have seen her. Was she on a sitcom? Anybody know?
Great song and so true. Sad that it usually does not work out when so different.
As a shovels and rope fan, I came here for Cary Ann, but this is a fun song.
0:35 Ha! Sheldon Cooper came to mind.: )

❤️
"Were you hittin on that stripper cause you cant afford to tip her" lol
OMG. This song sound so funny
How can they advertise Georgia Florida Line before an actual artist. Dumb youtube.
+George Thornburg preach on, that drives me nuts!!!!! Florida Georgia Line are the biggest bunch of tools in the country music scene :)
+Danielle Watson A Man! I thought I had seen it all but then Florida Georgia Line comes along..I sure do miss my hearing but I just had to stick ice picks in my ears after them
What actual artist?
The ONLY real fight I have had with Hubs is over politics therefore we don't talk about ANYTHING going on in the world.
Thanks for your help and support towards me 💓💕💕
Thank u Jason Hughes
Ha! the bumper sticker!
The 0:15 Is The Best!!!
Who are the Actors in this video? Where are their credits, please? The guy w beard looks like actor in brett Gelman ?
That actor is definitely Brett Gelman
I agree. Too bad she couldn't have done this video with him too.
Why I'm a voluntarist.
At 2:50, that's the best tramp stamp ever!
Sit down please!
I like James in this. I could probably eat some bugs and drink Cold A$$ Beer with the Dude 🍺
I liked Bonnie too
Literally the only similarity is giving instruments to some Hispanic men and making them play music.
Yep, give it some rock guitars, a faster beat, and it's Jason Isbell's "Super 8 Motel".
The music fog version he does with his bass player is a whole lot better than this one.
Agreed.
dst and she is way prettier
Came here from Pyscward
Very funny "Your all American source for News. Owned by an Australian" "Should Jesus replace Abraham Lincoln on the penny" "Senate Republicans demand Copy of Obama's Drivers License" As if the lyrics weren't brilliant enough the captions under the news team were way too funny
Hi Kat
LOVE this song. . . . but. . . . Dylan is NOT over rated. haha
Steve was right.
22people with no taste in music
The vocals on this horrendous!
Having an opinion doesn't make someone a troll : )

Seriously though, please don't fuck fascists, thank you.
YOU RIPPED OFF MY VIDEO
Except yours is shit
Yeah...yours sucks
Dylan is overrated... discuss
Dylan IS overrated…. And plenty wrong with being a Democrat...
Better than being a Republican
Except if you'd like to be relevant in 2017.
Take a look at your current administration. It's like watching a sitcom. It'd be funny if it weren't reality.
Trump's top advisor thinks our microwaves are spying on us.
And that's not even the stupidest thing she said.
I rest my case.
she;s awful!!!! bonnie whitmore is much better and sings it right
