@@bliine I have said this FOR YEARS!!! I rate it as the GREATEST VERSE IN HIP HOP!!! NOBODY was rappin like this in 1996… NOBODY. PERIOD. But Hip Hop was kinda regionalized in that era. If you were on a MAJOR, you were on a Major. But even then, “at times” you could still be “prodominantly” known AND APPRECIATED by your region more. I sincerely believe this verse is one of the GREATEST VERSES of ALL TIME. This album alone solidifies BUN B AS AN EXCEPTIONAL LYRICIST.
in my opinion, the holy trinity of southern hip-hop is Outkast, UGK and 8ball and MJG. 8ball and mjg started that southern pimp shit and were a heavy influence on outkast and ugk. you should react to 8ball and mjg's comin out hard in its entirety. its only like 9 tracks and definitely one of the best and most influential albums of that era.

The anniversary of this album was earlier this month. One of my favorite hip hop tracks of the 90s and a classic album. Definitely gotta put this album on the list for an album reaction.
Pimp C specifically made this beat for Bun B to rip. I can't remember if it was because Bun asked him to or was it because Pimp thought Bun B didn't get enough credit for his lyricism.
According to Bun, he didn't want to do One Day cause he wanted something uptempo since they were rapping on a lot of down tempo beats. Pimp convinced Bun to do One Day and in return, he'll give Bun something uptempo to spazz on. The fact Bun woke up from a nap and freestyled the verse in one take cements it as a legendary. Some of the details might be off a bit.
@@raymunson he probably was a baby cause I was thinking the same thing I remember hearing this coming from texas when it first came out on the radio I couldn't wait to get home (I'm in Louisiana) I was 15/16 when this dropped went straight to the store lol
UGK kinda kickstarted the whole "coke rap" subgenre. The first song I ever heard by them was "Pocket Full of Stones" from the Menace II Society soundtrack.
T.I. has a video saying this was one of his favorite verses. Kinda has a T.I. flow now that I think about it so I can see how T.I.P. was influenced by it.
Wow, you finally got to this. I would've honestly thought you already got to it lol but I definitely gotta do that Ridin Dirty album shoot. I honestly gotta tap back into the South as well miss me sum 8Ball n MJG🫡🫡🙏🙏
I'm a country boy from the top of the south in central Kentucky. Im a fan of all regions in rap/hip hop music. In 98, I moved to Brooklyn, NYC with my sister & her dude that's from there. I took all my cds, mostly artists from the south with me. My friends, my sisters dude, and his family up there fell in love with the shit I had, including this album. They didn't know that, in the words of Andre' 3000, "The South got something to say!"
Pimp has never need the greatest lyricist for sure BUT he will ALWAYS outshine anyone he collaborates with due to his demeanor and swag. He was so talented. He was a producer, he played instruments, he sang, and rapped. I’m a UGK alumni since 1993 when I was about 14 years old.

The fact that you appreciate and enjoy this at much as you enjoy Wu Tang and Nas is the reason you're my favorite reactor. Just a love for the art Thank you

I’m from Louisiana and was in Junior High first time I heard UGK. Front, Back, Side to Side, Pocket Full of Stones but when “Ridin Dirty” dropped it made me proud to be where I was from. Port Arthur is on the Louisiana Texas border along I-10 and I know they both have family in Louisiana so culturally I understood the organ Pimp used in the beats like we usually only heard in church and related to what they were saying especially Pimp about they don’t respect South so “we don’t need yall, since Hip Hop started in NY, we don’t make hip hop this Country Rap Tunes.” Also not sure how true but I’ve heard in several places “Ridin Dirty” was one of 2 PAC’s favorite albums. Also after UGK & 3-6 did “Sippin on Syrup” they were going to start a group Underground Mafia but Pimp soon went to jail and never materialized. How dope would that have been?
