Being a 43yr old car, film and music enthusiast this movie hit all of my sweet spots. Drive is so damn good in so many ways. It's beautiful and raw, clean and dirty and I effing love it!
Gosling is such a good actor, even though he doesn't show much emotion he can do drama as good as comedy. Once I was Watching Blade Runner 2049 at home, when my brother walked in, sat for a while and the said "You know, I really feel like watching 'The Nice Guys' for some reason."
This is the movie that got me back into filmmaking. I just absolutely love this film, it has everything. I can't get enough of the soundtrack and I love my Scorpion jacket. I'd hope one day to achieve something similar with my dream project influenced by this movie.
I'll take this film over any of the F&F films. Also it has my man Pearlman so I have to love it. I also recommend checking out The Driver of which this film is a very loose remake of.
^Exactly. Particularly, the first 3 films were about street racing and tuning/modding cars. For a lot of us that were young at the time, it really got us into tuner culture along with other things that was coming out at the time like the Need for Speed games.
SHOUT OUT to Ryan Gosling who basically was a producer on this film. He hired Refn after seeing Bronson and cast Albert Brooks who he loved in those great comedies. He also kept pushing to trim Driver's dialogue to its bare finished state. He pitched a sequel set around Vegas. Fingers crossed.
Damn, I put this on as background noise only for me to be fully watching. You nailed this analysis and I'm grateful you did so as this film provides so much to explore, thank you for this, damn shame this doesn't have more views because it really deserves more.
The front end wasn't destroyed because they reinforced the bumper for this scene. Bumpers stick out about 5 inches past the grill on the 73 chevelles. Fun fact ryan Gosling choose the chevelle in a junkyard and rebuilt it himself to get into the role
Excellent analysis, learned a lot from this! Just one thing - Driver’s blink in his car at the end which, after a long pause, reveals he’s still alive and not dead, recalls the staring contest he had with the kid in the garage earlier in the film - “you lose you blinked first! “ also when Shannon states that Driver took the job in the garage on half the normal pay “without blinking” - the blinking, or lack of it, becomes something of a motif.
A wonderfully executed (heehee) work from all thematic and design aspects, the sound design, color design and perfect cinematography- as well as performances. One of my students submitted a very interesting possibility, one that is very disturbing:!that Driver is fantasizing his hero’ness. His scorpion costume is the indicator that he’s going in and out of fantasy in his otherwise completely metal/hardness/toxic male reality. Worth considering, as much as this theory turns the tables!
I never looked at with symbolism and depth you did and without that it's one of my 5 favorite films ever. There was never something I could put my finger I just found it immensely enjoying.
The soundtrack in this film was second to none
That it be lad. That it be.
Interstellar
Tremendous

One of my top movies ever ! You explained it perfectly ! This movie truly is good in many ways ! It’s art !
Easily the best film of 2011 imho, Drive created its own sub-genre: Neon Noir.
Blade Runner created this sub genre.
Imo Ryan Gosling is superb actor and every fim he's in is excellent. But Drive absolutely THE BEST! ❤

F&F and Drive are two very different films, however.

Oh, almost forgot, he also pushed to get Cliff Martinez to do the score. Big ups!
Most underrated film of all time cos for some reason nobody seems to know about it and it’s amazing
is this... ironic?

Yes, love this movie!
You missed the star of David on the garage door
Fun fact will Smith isn't in this film.
It's actually a pretty straightforward hero's journey leaning heavily on Jungian symbolism.
He's just like me fr fr
