- When it comes to getting to The Brando resort in French Polynesia, there aren’t a lot of options. You either fly from Tahiti on Air Tetiaroa with other guests of the luxurious, remote island-or you travel in VIP style on an Air Tetiaroa charter. But why is it called The Brando, and why are we telling you about it now? Marlon Brando, who was legendary for both his talent and his eccentricities, was born in April 1924, so this month is the 100th anniversary of his birth. He fell in love with French Polynesia while shooting Mutiny on the Bounty (1962), and proceeded to buy the Tetiaroa archipelago, envisioning it as an environmentally innovative utopia. The iconic actor died in 2004, but his dream lives on: The Brando, now a decade old, opened on Tetiaroa in 2014. It’s a one-of-a-kind tropical legacy-an ecologically advanced hideaway recently experienced by Business Jet Traveler editor Drew Limsky.
