- 1986 The film is about ages old, and self-drawn battle between immortal warriors until there is only one immortal left on earth, hence the tagline " There can only be one". The movie based on a story by Gregory Widen . Gregory Widen wrote the script to Highlander, which he then titled "Shadow Clan," as a class assignment while he was an undergraduate in the screenwriting program at UCLA. Widen sold the script for $200,000. It stars Christopher Lambert which launched Lambert to stardom, it also stars Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart.
The original orchestral score was composed by Michael Kamen, but the soundtrack includes several songs by Queen. Queen's 1986 album "A Kind of Magic" features most of the songs from the film. All of Queen's songs in Highlander were purposely written for the movie.
Queen wrote many of the songs specifically to match the mood of the scenes when the songs were played, notably Brian May's "Who Wants to Live Forever," concerning the doomed love of Connor and his wife Heather. Connor remains by his mortal wife's side all her life and watched her age, and after she dies, he leaves to wander the world, taking Ramirez's sword as his weapon.
The film was distributed by 20th Century Fox.
A true masterpiece. I play this song every year on the day my husband died at the age of 35. It emotionally touches me every time I hear it. My husband loved this movie and I chose to play it as a farewell song on his funeral. RIP Danny and Freddy Mercury

My father died in 2012, in the car home from the hospital i turned the radio on, and there it was, this song. I played it at his funeral. Every time i listen to this song i think of him and cry. Great song, R I P dad

Besides being an incredible song- the way the band has incorporated themselves into the orchestra, just looks amazing- with John on acoustic bass, Brian sitting in the string section and Roger in the timpani- Of course Freddie in a black tux finishes the picture..5 stars..❤
Highlander was my wife Stacey's favorite movie and 21 years ago when we were just friends she introduced me to a bootleg directors cut and Stacey was a big fan of Queen as well,so much so that our wedding invitations quoted One dream,one soul,one prize,one goal from It's A Kind Of Magic.
Stacey died suddenly on the morning of October 7th 2013 at 43 leaving me a widower at age 52 after only 15 wonderful years of marriage.
As I sat with friends that afternoon totally stunned the subject of what music should be played at her funeral came up and right off Who Wants To Live Forever was the instant choice.
As it turned out this song was the first one played with Show Must Go On after the deacon spoke and closed out with the only non Queen bit of music Amazing Grace on the pipes.
Sorry to hear of your sad loss mate, It is always devastating to lose someone so close and at such a young age. Brilliant choice of music for your lovely lady's final day, I am sure she would be delighted by the choice, given her admiration for Queen! I too chose "Who wants to live forever" for my Dad's big day when he passed on, He was only 53 and like your wife, A big Queen fan, In fact both of us are/were. I find a lot of solace and comfort listening to all Queen's music and it keeps my spirits up when times are bad. One of my other favourites is "one year of love". My thoughts are with you dude and hope you have strength from your family. Take care ;)

Thanks man,One Year Of Love was originally my third choice but it was a sudden change to Amazing Grace when going over final draft of a eulogy my best man and mutual friend of both of ours something made me ask him if he still had the CD of the bagpipes so I took that as Stacey making the decision.
All I can say is thank God for not only my family but Stacey's as well and all of our friends.
I'd considered myself a "happy" atheist on October 6th and on the afternoon of October first I had a thought come out of nowhere "Gary maybe you should go to church Sunday." followed by "where the heck did that come from?" I took that as Jesus,God,the holy spirit whatever coming to me to let me know I had some rough days coming but long story made short I've also found my faith again and that's been helping so much.

Sorry for your loss my friend. The choice of music at your wife’s funeral is extremely fitting and poignant. Highlander is also my favourite film and I introduced it to my girlfriend about six years ago. There is something about Highlander that makes it more than just a film.

The scene in the film where Heather dies and McCleod really comes to terms with his immortality - he sets fire to his home and abandons the glen where he spent some happy years. Sometimes in life things can be so painful that all you can do is move on and never look back to where you came from. But it is important remember those who you did share your life with.

This song breaks my heart because Freddie Mercury knew at the time he wrote it that he had HIV, and in 1986 there was no treatment and no hope of survival. RIP Freddie, you are missed. ~♥~

What a classic. I love the movie and the soundtrack is to die for. Michael Kamen's score is wonderful. I don't know who came up with the idea of Queen to do the soundtrack. But is was masterful. We miss you Freddy.o
Highlander was "the movie" when I was 16 I met my ex husband and his pack of friends who when I left Home a few months later became my Family . This sound track was the soundtrack of the best couple years of my life.
