For the try-hard that keeps coming here bleating that it's "not as good as the Oils" in an effort it seems to make us all recognise him as some sort of authority on music - The Oils were influenced by the Atlantics in the first place to write the friggin song and the Atlantics version regularly performed live is done with both the blessing and admiration of Midnight Oil.
Love this - it's like the music has come full circle and then some. The band that influenced another to write a song then interprets that song with the influence that caused the song's existence. Truly poetic.
Peter Garrett has referred to this Midnight Oil song as being a cross between Slim Dusty and The Atlantics so it is a natural for the Atlantics to cover it. Moginie and Rotsey were obviously influenced by The Atlantics and surf rock is one of the influences that can be heard to varying degrees on every one of Midnight Oil's albums, some more than others. In response to yfelwulf I would just say that only a person who has not listened to much Midnight Oil would think their music was ordinary. They reinvented their sound with nearly every album and did quite a few experimental things sonically that no one had done before. Their music is very quirky and pretty void of rock music's cliches. Probably the only albums that could be described as coming anywhere near ordinary sounding would be the self-titled debut, Breathe, and Capricornia. Also their political statements were not always "politically correct". They merely wrote about what was on their minds. BTW, three members of Midnight Oil play together in a surf instrumental group called The Break whose music is way more ordinary, cliche, and derivitive than anything Midnight Oil ever did but is still far more adventurous than the average surf rock band.
I saw Martin Cillia play this a year or two ago @ Bond uni. ,Gold Coast .at a Sunday afternoon free concert . Sounded great, just like this . The island is just off Coogee Beach, Sydney.
Top performance the most UNDERRATED GROUP EVER they are the best come to TOOWOOMBA BOYS we have top theater here and groups like SWEET,and SEARCHERS come we must see yous.
Truly takes the Cake, don't it. Great all time surf guitar band covering Aussie Icon in a local Surf Club. By the way, Oils were soon to be impressed by Desert Surf guitarist Sammy Butcher from the Warmupi Band. Check out the album 'Desert Surf Guitar' on TH-cam.
Disagree with you totally - it's been deliberately given the tempo of an Atlantics song. A cover version is best when a band puts their own stamp on it, in my opinion, not just trying to mimic the original.
The Atlantics are great! Great Australian surf band! I could listen to their music for days at a time.

Well .. not much point playing it the same as the Oils did .. because it's already been done and it's not Karaoke here . .
Still not as good destroyed it with the drums galloping like heavy too
@@feonajaxon5695 the drum sound is a signature of the Atlantic's- I love it
Only the Atlantics, with their unique style of 'Aussie Surf Culture' musicianship, could do justice to this timeless classic.. well done boys!!!
With the unmistakable drum track of "Bombora" to make it truly Atlantic!
Your version of this is the one I keep returning to xxxx

Fractal is the word

That's about as good as any history that shall be written. Those that were there will understand.
I'd love to hear a Slim Dusty version....certainly would not be morbid or dreer
Terrific version !!❤
Like it as much as the Oils !!
This is pure GOLD! Simply brilliant !
Just a few years ago I enjoyed seeing Martin Cilia & band do this great song
at Bond Uni Gold Coast in a Sunday afternoon outdoor concert ,so good..
Love both versions. Masterpieces.
I love how Australia's greatest surf band comes from Villawood. Only in Australia! Love it!
And a few years later more great Australian bands would do exactly the same...we are one but we are many.

A first for me I've never heard of this band but I'm impressed with them
Bombora charted at #1 in Australia in 1963.
Always loved instrumentals . This sends shiver down my spine !!
its a great piece of music...and when played well is thoroughly enjoyed..
Killer version - love it!
That's a Fucking Good drummer.
Awesome surf sound!!!👍
That was fantastic. Midnight Oil did them proud.
This is a cover, Midnight Oil wrote Wedding Cake Island and originally recorded this in 1980 and The Atlantics
did their recording in 2006.
Again, the lead guy isooooo good
RIP Peter Hood....
Absolutely amazing. Love this song and you guys nailed it
absolutely awesome. well done..
That looks like it is from the "Delightful Rain" sessions, but I don't recall seeing them perform that on it.
absolutely awesome. well done

HES PLAYING WITH HIS HERO S SO COOL
damn that's a quick version, cool as though
Ya gotta love a Vox AC 30.....
Are the original guys still with us?
Australian classic
I paid cash for the video CD of this after it was on the ABC.
Different style to Midnight Oil but, really good.
Lucky lucky punters watching that live !!
Great work. Is that Bosco on bass? I don't recognize him.
I like the mellow tone of the drums by using "spaghetti" sticks
Like it. Just a different (funkier) take on the original, which I prefer.
It's an Oil's original ( Rotsey/Moginie)
👍😊👍
Who the hell posted a thumbs down ????
+Alex Ercole Yeah. Who did that?
7 idiots who do not understand music!
looks just like Martin's guitar too
Forgive my ignorance but who is the guy playing the white strat?
His name is Martin Cilia, he's a more recent member of the Atlantics. martincilia.com
... and the author of the fantastic Reef Break music!
Funny look for the bassman !!!
go Greek (Jim) goooooooooooo
Since when did the Oils own Wedding Cake Island theirs was a cover as well
It was composed by Jim Moginie & Martin Rotsey....both members of Midnight Oils.
Not The Atlantic’s without Theo Penglis
That is not something out of a lazy surfside sunny day. Way too fast.
Not too bad but Doesn't compare to the cover by " The Break" .
My comment is 8 down,,about when I saw Martin
Already found out it is an Oils original just had Surf Guitar sound to it. Never listened to the Oils very ordinary Music too politically correct
Shoulda left it at the same tempo. OMG it’s a disaster, the joy of the original is the easy casual relaxed vibe, but destroyed by this version.

@@noteatpig2getha 👍
WTF.
Nope sorry, Oils do it slower and is so much better, especially live
