I saw Orguss back when Robotech came out, and my take on the ending scene has always been that Kei and Olsen restored space and time. The scenes we see are all the possible worlds being restored. There is one where Kei and Mimsy are together, but there is also one where Kei and Tina are together. There is a worlds where Mome and Captain aren’t outsiders. I saw it as a very optimistic and positive ending.
@@TheGamingHarbinger I grew up in the SF Bay Area in the 70s and 80s, and many of the hobby shops had models from anime shows that weren’t on the air in America. There were a few that would sell you VHS tapes of these shows (in Japanese - no subtitles). Watched all the Space Battleship Yamato movies that way. When Robotech came out, these shops started selling Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada models. They also had Orguss models. The Ogroid wasn’t as cool looking as a VF1S, but it transformed into a forms, which I thought was amazing (don’t think the tank form was ever used in the show). Learned about so many anime shows from those hobby shops. Was so mad when they chopped up Mehazone 23 for o make “Robotech the movie.”
This is a bizarre anime. I don’t know if I love to hate it or hate to love it. I do find Mome to be an annoying loli, sorry. I would rather we didn’t have scenes like a little girl undressing Kei while he yells “I’m not a lolicon!” I do like some of the other characters like Shaya and Mimsy, Mai and Leia, Papti, Olson, Jabi, Athena… I do hate Kei and think he’s a horndog who is responsible for all of the problems in the show. But that makes it entertaining. There are always bizarre and unpredictable things happening because he’s not a traditional hero. In one episode they realize if he was gone their issues would go away and disguise a deer as him to fake his death. Then he reveals he’s still alive so that he can go make out with unconscious Mimsy while they’re attacked by vampire bats! That’s how crazy this show is.
My take on the ending has been that the destruction of the singularity caused the artifically-enjoined parallel worlds to revert to their original states, absent the presence of the singularity in any one of them. It seems to be saying that there are infinite parallel world lines, and that those slices of life that we see in the still form montage are each the reality of their respective worlds. TLDR; Everything Happens ;)
