I would of had a tough time beating you guys on this one. I forgot track titles and forgot In Sotto Voce , Portion Control (not my fave one from them) and that Borghesia one I don't know. Also mixed up Tribunturia for another Techno Drome release. As Hacker said old age and memory. LOLz.... Now we need to do a face off with Joey vs me(Adam X). for the EBM crown.
I saw Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb just second to last weekend live. Man, it was soooooooo good. And Frontline Assembly will play in my area within the next 2 or 3 months here in Germany. Never saw them back in the days. Saw the Klinik, Test Department, Skinny Puppy and lots of other EBM during the 80ths. Only good memory.
Portion Control “Great Divide” was a huge hit back in the 1980s in Chicago radio stations including WBMX 102.7 FM. Hot Mix 5 used to play that song in the mixes over and over with Chicago house, Italo Disco and etc.
what an unbelievable sympathetic group this is. i could listen to them for hours, going on and on about the memories those records bring back to them. well done, whoever curated that "line up" regarding both the guests as well as the records
Fuck!. So Front 242 started out by sheer LUCK!!! Like the *most basic social luck* ... winning the lottery... And it took me decades to hear about that... This life...
Well, if you mean In Sotto Voce I am affraid to disappoint you. Ilya Dimitrijevic & Boris Mikulic were in fact Jo Casters & Herman Gillis of Poésie Noire from Belgium
Wow, that was the golden era of EBM for sure! I grew up in the eighties and 1988 I got a mix tape from a friend. It blew my mind. I had listened to musicals and new wave and classical before as a kid. But THIS was now my music. I remember going through school with Front 242, portion control, DAF in my Sony Walkman. I was a total geek, but I felt cool : )
I had the same experience - I'd always liked synthpop and was getting heavily into Depeche Mode in early 1989, met a friend at school who made me a tape with 242, Nitzer, Weathermen, Skinny Puppy, Clock DVA, The Shamen. a;GRUMH... my musical landscape was never the same again.
@@ElectronicBeatsTV It was earlier Shamen from before Will died, stuff from "In Gorbachev We Trust" and "Phorward" with a lot of TV news samples, so it kind of worked!
Here in Spain at Valencia all this music exploded into a social phenomenpn of clubs called "la ruta del bacalao" or "ruta destroy" art, dressings.... Anda of course dance....
Thank you for such an interesting program. With you I will learn hits and interesting music of past years. She develops me a lot musically. Because there are tracks that sound worthy in the modern world.
I had Curses' problem where the artists came easy but the titles just aren't there. In my case, it's usually because I listen to albums in entirety rather than picking tracks, and never had to select tracks for playlists. Loved this episode. I'm biased!
Thanks a lot for this episode. Forgotten memories of industrial youth surfaced : ) Skinny Puppy, Nitzer Ebb... Front 242. It was so much fun watching this... couldn't fall asleep after My morning started with Geography, thanks to you :)
Apart from this format being my favorite one on yt, I wanted to give a massive shout out to especially the hacker and fixmer whom got me interested in electronic music production at all. And saving up for all the gear of course, you got me started. Thank you to all of the peeps facing this test. I coincidentally listened to „first album“ of miss kittin and the hacker a couple of weeks ago. When I bought this record initially I was 15 and couldn’t even reach the turntable at hardwax store in Berlin. So I bought it without listening, while the cool guy at the cashier told me it’s a decent investment for the future. Like good wine it not only aged well, it’s still a superior produced record nowadays. Thx to @telekom electronic beats for keeping me aware of the true legends and introducing me of their most important inspiration.

Love most of the music... last track is my favourite from the list. But in this test, I would be soooo lost. Born in Czechoslovakia, in 1983 - we did not have this music and when electronic music hit us in 90', the scene was turning already into commercial stuff bluff.
Another great round, can't say I listened to this stuff back in the day as I was a metal head back then. But WOW! some of that sounded amazing and still fresh.
hello from Brunswick in Germany, i remember the Songs of severed heads with dead eyes opened and pink industry with enjoy the pain.. ffn with Grenzwellen with Ecki Stieg great Times..
Once again EB thanks, never a expert on this type of music, I would know most of the artists, but for example I love DAF, but if you listen to the early 80s stuff you can hear the influence it had on Detroit techno.
Thanks for that one! Good memories. No wonder everybody guessed “a split second” on “in sotto voce” - they must have used the same synth sound! I just can’t remember which one now, maybe “bend my body armour”?
Another great episode! I never miss one. It’s a pleasure to see Amato and Fixmer… and discover some new artists like Chloe, Rhys….and nice tunes. Thanks from Brazil.
This was amazing. I kept up pretty well, but confess I was tricked by that In Sotto Voce track too. That bassline is so close to A Split Second, "Mambo Witch".
Only one I missed was Psyche. This was a really good selection. I'm low key kinda surprsied that it took some of the group so long to recognize Smothered Hope. Going on 40 years later that song is STILL a staple at damn near every goth night I've been to.
Remission on 45 was played at 33 by accident on a college radio station when I was a kid, for the longest time I thought that was the real speed. Still sounds too fast to me today.

the showdown must happen!
A 80s EBM Showdown between Adam X and Blush Response?
We are in.
@@ElectronicBeatsTV I will freshen up if we do it so I don't forget track titles , my memory isn't what it once was!
@@ElectronicBeatsTV let me do the selection ;)
Yes!!!! Two new york OGs duking it out. Make sure to get super obscure with the selections. Love you all! 🖤
Slovenija represent! BORGHESIA ❤
please do more EBM videos. there are fantastic tracks and bands in these I haven't heard before.
80s EBM is the best EBM
I saw Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb just second to last weekend live. Man, it was soooooooo good. And Frontline Assembly will play in my area within the next 2 or 3 months here in Germany. Never saw them back in the days. Saw the Klinik, Test Department, Skinny Puppy and lots of other EBM during the 80ths. Only good memory.
Will see Front 242 this saturday in France 🔥🔥🔥
and don't forget fix8:sed8 plus suicide commando in bochum langendreer 17th of march :)
Paradiso was great; Nitzer Ebb was awesome. Join the Chant!!
luckyyyy. they had their last show in the U.S. a few months ago and I couldn't go to it :(
EBM/Industrial is part of my life for more than 30 years now and still helps me getting through it. It's dark but also gives You energy!
Portion Control “Great Divide” was a huge hit back in the 1980s in Chicago radio stations including WBMX 102.7 FM. Hot Mix 5 used to play that song in the mixes over and over with Chicago house, Italo Disco and etc.
Right! th-cam.com/video/WuZlHOLMl1Q/w-d-xo.html
This is the fk’n greatest thing I’ve seen in ages. I WISH I had thought of this.
So many great songs
Rhys is the man ! FLA is one of the main reasons i got inte electronic Music at all
Thanks for having me 🖤🖤🖤🖤 it was super fun
Thanks for participating
That was impressive! I thought Rhys had it at first.
@@sonicgroove5395 🖤🖤🖤
I think I propuse you when they asked about artist to participate, and also regarding styles! Good stuff man, grande!!!! (Congrats for the win too)
You did awesome!
These kind of video's always inspire me to listen to different kinds of music
what an unbelievable sympathetic group this is. i could listen to them for hours, going on and on about the memories those records bring back to them. well done, whoever curated that "line up" regarding both the guests as well as the records
I got the Portion Control immediately as many times as I mixed and played it as a teen in the 80’s 😁👍🏾👍🏾
One of the best songs
I know very little about this scene but I LOVE the music, thanks for sharing the joy and knowledge these people have
Rhys! Of course he'd know a lot. Great guy.
Fuck!. So Front 242 started out by sheer LUCK!!! Like the *most basic social luck* ... winning the lottery... And it took me decades to hear about that...
This life...
Not really: F242 started well before they bought the Emulator II.
I'm from Slovenia and i certainly didn't expect Slovenian band here. This is great! :D
Well, if you mean In Sotto Voce I am affraid to disappoint you.
Ilya Dimitrijevic & Boris Mikulic were in fact Jo Casters & Herman Gillis of Poésie Noire from Belgium
@ C-H. Brons Well, Borghesia are Slovenian from Ljubljana 😉
Wow such an incredible glimpse on a total unknown world, excellent episode like usual, thank you TEB!
Glad you enjoyed it
Did even know EBM existed 14 minutes ago and now i'm searching for copies of all the songs lol.
Total unknown world?
I assume you guys are VERY young 😅
@@gad_blood not really, that's the issue! Anyway not the kind of music that radios broadcasted in Italy at those times...

The Shamen in between Skinny Puppy and Clock DVA. Very broad taste😉

They make dark music, but all looking so lovely 👯♂️🍭
My goth ass guessed all but 2 correctly 😄 Front 242, skinny puppy, nitzer ebb and tribantura instantly! That was fun
Did you miss Portion Control?
@@te9591 crazy a lot of them missed that
@@stephenroldan5107 portion control is pretty obscure, i dont really know them that well.
Goths were brave soldiers fighting for Germany thousands of years ago. Were you still alive back then...?
I opened the video because of Chloe in the cover but I watched it till the end for Rhys and his answer.
I had Curses' problem where the artists came easy but the titles just aren't there. In my case, it's usually because I listen to albums in entirety rather than picking tracks, and never had to select tracks for playlists. Loved this episode. I'm biased!
Fixmer and The Hacker - I knew it would be good

Looking forward to this one! Hello rivetheads!
13:19 that Curses' growl aligns perfectly with the tune, great episode!
The best episode IMHO. I watch this once a day since weeks 😂

F242. Love this sound.. the dark vocals
Rhys, what a legend! Great video, just great.
This is all new to me and some of those tracks hit a nerve, fantastic stuff and great panel of experience and knowledge.
Really thanks for this kind of content, it makes me discover new gems everytime
Psyche - The Crawler, one of my all-time favorites
This is one of the best
GREAT THAT THE TOP MUSIC ARE BACK GOOD CLASSIC THEMES
80s EBM is top shelf for me.
Grew up on FLA but you're introducing me to so much more. A must watch as always from TEB!
Small correction on the lottery story about 242. It was Patrick who used the money to buy a Emulator II not Daniel B.
Industrial was my darker rabbit hole from the early synth pop of Alternative!!!!
@Telekom Electonic Beats -> you guys are amazing. Thank you for the musical education nd 4 keep things running. What a rich colourful culture✨!!!🖤🖤🖤
You guys are the best. Don't ever stop this show.
What the hell, you can’t have Rhys Fulber in here! He was there for the whole thing!

No it’s the base sound from “check it out”! 😀
Round 5 I would have guessed A Split Second too. Those synth stabs sound exactly like Rigor Mortis.
Saw Portion Control supporting DM in Belfast ‘84, loved them and still have photos of their Greengate DS3 sampler supported by an ironing board 😆
Saw them in Ipswich on same tour
