Thank you so much for this tutorial Julia. I love your work, i love your voice. A tip: When removing hair from different textured places (ex: Eyes, eyebrows etc), select with the lasso tool (L), if needed, smooth the selection by 2px with Shift+F6 and then use the Shift+Backspace, select the "Content-Aware" mode and smart Fill. It works wonders and miracles and saves you a ton of times. Can also be used to remove imperfections from backgrounds on your pics, if you want. Cheers from Brazil.
@The ANReddy's That is a Wacom Tablet. Mostly used for digital illustration, can also be a great tool for photo editing and retouching. Even the cheapest ones from Wacom work amazing.
Yess the patch tool is great for removing things as well! I usually use it when I'm retouching fabric that has a pattern, as you can easily match the pattern that way rather than using stamp or healing brush :)
Julia! Thank you for the AWESOME tutorial! One question... I see that you made your top layer differently this time compared to the old video. For example, Using "Subtract" instead of "Add" and "Offset: 128." Which one should we follow? :)
Oh My GAWD. I'm subscribed (and I've hit the bell) and somehow missed this. 😠😠😭😭 This was INCREDIBLE. Probably the best video you've done so far, and that says a lot.
This was SO USEFUL! Thank you so much! I never quite really understood frequency separation - this fixed that. You are a goddess for making this. #namaste
Great tutorial, Julia, thank you! I Wonder if you could achieve similar results with the latest improvements on the adjustment brush in lightroom, seems a lot more useful now for this purpose... could be a good challenge for you and awesome content for those (like me) who are still trying to avoid Photoshop as much as possible... Cheers from Brazil!
Great tutorial. One recommendation... add a blank "non-destructive" layer over layer 1 to do the edits on the blurred layer as you did in the subsequent layer edits.
Thanks and oh my gosh yes! I keep meaning to add this into my workflow, but when you get used to doing something a particular way - old habits die hard haha. Going to do that next time.
Hello Julia. Thanks for the tutorial. I have a problem. When I set subtrack in the apply image window it is not working, it just looks gray and it doesn't show that the subtrack settings is making any changes, will you know why? It's drive me crazy Thank you
This video was so helpful. Thank you! For the last one month, I have been using a new editing platform “autoRetouch” which uses AI to automate image editing. I am using the trial version. On this platform, the work of skin retouching is so easy and the output is very professional.
Thanks for this great explanations! What if we first edited in Lightroom and added Grain? Should we remove the grain, edit the skin and go back to Lightroom to add the grain? :) Thank you in advance !
Hi - first of all I LOVE this channel. Thank you for making amazing content. I'm trying to learn how to do frequency separation but around 5:10 I get tripped up. When I try to use the HBT it doesn't work. I sample a nearby area and nothing. I do notice that your color picker area is blue on top and white on the bottom. Mine is black on top and white on the bottom. Is that why?
Julia, I enjoy your video and have watched it quite few times, but there are two questions I would like to ask you: I definitely see the lost in sharpness in my final image. The gaussian blur didn't go away after finishing the job. Is there a special way to savethe picture after finished, so that the sharpness will be retained as the original one? Thanks for the nice video!
Thanks for sharing! I think you used to select add and invert for your high frequency layer (or at least that’s what I remember). Is there a difference between that and what you do now, or why do you choose subtract? Thanks in advance :)
Hey, thanks for the Video. Love it! Is this the old FS Action or is it a new created one? Because the old one didn`t work in my Photoshop CC 2018!? Greetings form Germany ;)
Thanks! This is the same action as before, but it still works on the newest Photoshop. Maybe you could try downloading and installing it again? Please let me know if it still doesn't work and I'll see if I can update it!
Would love to see how you retouch 40+ non model women. I work a lot with that, and feel these sort of retouches are not enough. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Yeah I could definitely make a video about this topic! I agree but in a different way, I think a retouch like this would be too much for a more senior picture as you don't want to make it look unrealistic. I'll see if I can make a video about it :)
Kind of funny. Every video I watch that has music. Someone complains and says there should be no music. I think some people have trouble hearing talking over music. Even if it is quiet.
If you listen with headphones, there is music :) I just wanted to make it as soft as possible since I know a lot of people might have this tutorial open while doing their own retouching (to follow along on the steps) and possibly listening to their own music.
I used to heavily retouch all the photos of myself. Now I simply don't care about it anymore and leave the photos as they are. Pros of having a brand new self esteem

Thanks for making this video, this video helped me to get started with Photoshop and editing portraits.
You👏🏻are👏🏻the👏🏻best. TRULY
i saw in another video using small brush for color layer and hard brush texture layer works great
Great video Julia, very helpful and well explained. Thank you. :-)
Your photos are amazing. I'm looking for my own style in photography and you're my inspirations :)
Love this. I always had trouble with editing out hair, this tutorial definitely helps. 🥰
thank you Julia! this is so easy to understand and useful!

Thanks for the video. I haven't done much retouching yet but I think your tutorial looks really handy for when I need to do some.
So happy you made a preset for this!!!

Hi Julia,
Dodge and burn plz (y)
Thanks for this great tutorial!
Thanks! I do a little dodge & burn here: th-cam.com/video/7jl7T6PgB0Q/w-d-xo.html&t but I'd love to make a whole tutorial about it :)

Thank you so much for another great video! Ive been wanting to get into retouching for a while and I think this is the perfect introduction!
Thank you so much!
Love the step by step here! Thank you for sharing!
Can’t wait to try this technique. I’m wondering though, what is the difference between duplicating the layer control j, and new layer?
Thanks for this tutorial super details!!! Follow and practice!!
Thank you!
This is amazing. I wish you would upload the photos with a link in the description so we could follow along with you though.
Such a good tutorial! Thanks Julia 🙌🏼
Thank you so much!
Just what i need. Goes with my question on Instagram this week. Thanks.
Excellent. Thank you.

This was perfect, thank you.

AMAZING! thank you
JUlia, thanks a lot for this excellent tutorial. I'd like to ask you, which brush hardnessdo you use for the healing brush?. Thanks.
looks great!

Glad you liked it! I would personally add grain after I retouch, as adding it before can make retouching a lot more tedious than it needs to be :D
Great work Good Tutorial 😍👍🏻👌🏻
Thank you :D
Thank you for this tutorial. :)
love this!!!

Thank you!! two days ago i downloaded the action!
Aw yay! Hope you've been liking using it :D
I personnaly use FS only for beauty or sometimes headshots. But most of the time it takes too much efforts to get a good result.
I'm the same, for full body shots I probably wouldn't do FS. I'm going to make another video soon on when I use certain techniques of retouching :)

Loved this video it’s really helped me also what drawing tablet were you using ? X
love it! thank you!
cám ơn bạn đã hướng dẫn thật chi tiết
I will try your tutorial
I would love to see a video on retouching men and older people please :)
That's a good idea! I'll do that next :)
This video saved my A Level
Thanks for sharing! I think you used to select add and invert for your high frequency layer (or at least that’s what I remember). Is there a difference between that and what you do now, or why do you choose subtract? Thanks in advance :)
Subtract, 2, 128 is for 8-bit images
For 16-bit use Add, 2, 0 and tick the "Invert" checkbox
how do you know if you have a 8 or 16 bit?
❤️❤️ helped alot
thank you!
you're a legend
you did it!! Thank you!! :)
I did :D :D
Hej Julia! from what wood is the fault of your desk? I really love it!
Thank you! It's a custom made table from an old barn door :)
Thanks for the video Julia. What kind of Wacom tablet do you use?
Intuos bluetooth in medium :)
@@juliatrotti Thanks so much Julia!
What is the pad you are using?
I don't usually do skin retouching, but I'm getting asked about it more and more so clearly I need to put my reservations about it aside.
I try to do as little as possible, so I don't retouch some of my photos. But some clients do want it so it's a handy skill to know!
I appreciate your effort. I hope piximperfect is a channel which you should refer
Thanks, I'll check them out!
Can you kindly have a new video with PS-2020?
Hey Julia! :) Where do you learn stuff like this?
I used to work as a professional retoucher!
Hey, thanks for the Video. Love it! Is this the old FS Action or is it a new created one? Because the old one didn`t work in my Photoshop CC 2018!? Greetings form Germany ;)

1 extra question. Do you manage the bruch size trough pressure or via the keyboard?
Both! I change it using the [ and ] first to the smallest size I need, then with pressure it can be even smaller if I need while brushing!

Wow, my wish is here....Thanks a lot..👍👍
is there any method other than this like dodge and burn method?
I personally think that this method frequency separation and dodge and burn gives you the most natural results :)
@@juliatrotti Can you post dodge and burn method tutorial?
Hey, When do you review our photos again?
I'll do one more before the end of the year!
Interesting and very useful. What a faff though eh?
I use fs when I need to retouch, but most of the time I don't retouch....
Loving the video, just add some music in next time... Other than that, I learned so much.
Kind of funny. Every video I watch that has music. Someone complains and says there should be no music. I think some people have trouble hearing talking over music. Even if it is quiet.

It's in the description :)
This is literally not working for me. I've tried it several times and still, nothing is happening.
👍
Tablet wacom ?
Everyone seems to recommend the Wacom Intuos Pro Small. Several people have told me the larger ones require to much movement for photo editing.
Yep, I use the Wacom Intuos Bluetooth in Medium, but the small is good for retouching as well. I just prefer a slightly bigger area to work with :)
I’ve seen this video before from another TH-cam… does everyone just do the same thing…?
