Timestamps: 0:00 Introduction 1:01 Depth of skating at CS Finlandia Trophy Finlandia was amazing! 2:15 getting into the many divisions of Finlandia and how there were showdowns of different skaters from the same federation (i.e. Kostornaia vs Valieva vs Tuktamysheva, and another example Alcantara vs Kailani Craine, you can put that into perspective of most of not all of the skating disciplines; it had to be very stressful for all of them but I was amazed by the skating here in Finlandia which generally in the past wasn’t that great field wise but in 2021 it was like watching a World Championships in all honesty; the depth of skating was incredibly breathtaking, not a moment was I bored watching) now that’s skating. Worlds 2021 to be real was mostly bad some great skating and some very poor skating but then again COVID19 and everything happening what did we expect really. But I was VERY blown away by Finlandia! Thank you Espoo, Finland for putting such an amazing event together!! (Rant over, lol, sorry). 2:45 Laura Barquero/Marco Zandron (Spanish Pairs Team) 2:54 Finlandia Ladies: 3:00 Russia (Aliona-teaching her a lesson? Russian judge placing Kostornaia lower than Loena Hendrickx) 3:51 Russian Federation is over the drama and with Kostornaia and Rozanov (aka Hot Sergei) **I strongly believe that the Seasons FS is just so bad and I love Vivaldi Four Seasons so very much but they did Kostornaia so dirty with that long program and I think the short as well is dreadful as Dave once said that Beth Hart has one good song and the rest is just noise (mentioned again in this video at 9:38) (granted I loved Gracie Gold’s long program from last season “War in my mind” by Beth Hart), I really believe that both programs need to be changed or maybe it’s just too late at this point maybe the damage has been done too severely. I’m just so sad because I love Kostornaia even when she was a junior skating to Stella’a Theme and I thought she was breathtaking to watch. Now it’s more heartbreaking to watch her struggles these last two years after her dominance on the Junior Circuit in the 2018-19 season and the Senior Circuit in the 2019-20 season. I hope she gets PROPER mental health treatment she looked so checked out in the kiss and cry after the FS. Kostornaia does not like her programs. There is VIRTUALLY NO CHOREOGRAPHY ANYWHERE IN THAT FREE, IM STILL WAITING TO SEE IT. 4:05 Kostornaia NOT doing the second 3A at the Russian Test Skates 4:33 Russian and Eteri Bonus 5:47 reference to PCS (Tuktamysheva being higher than both Kostornaia and Valieva) 7:07 Kostornaia was Not supposed to be above Valieva (in short program) however nobody expected Valieva to fall on the triple axel either. 7:54 Kostornaia losing to Tuktamysheva Do you foresee Eteri dumping Aliona if she doesn’t do better this season? 9:06 I agree with Jonathan 12:17 Zagitova 12:34 Valieva, 3A falls, PCS debacle as a senior debut whether it is correct or not. 3 quads in the free and a new world record in both the free and combined total. Technique is waning (very evident on the triple axel), growing at the wrong time. Her SPINS are absolutely breathtaking. Short is like a Storm 2.0 it’s lovely however I wish she could do something more than generic lovely, material hasn’t developed since the Picasso program. She is more talented than what she is getting it’s honestly saddening! Bolero more of the same as what I’ve said before. Not effective but whatever dress was odd and the red gloves need to go it’s very blaring. 16:52 Wakaba (3A) 17:17 Jennifer Kirk 17:43 Sambo 70 risk reward. Backing up with the judges but poor choreography. 18:33 Trusova 18:52 Valieva SS (skating skills) 9.17 in the free program for skating skills. Free leg (what Polina Edmunds said) 19:53 Empress Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, she won the short program!! Silver medal here. I strongly believe that she is making a case for going to the Olympics! I love her short program! I lit my candle for her for both programs and I prayed so hard because there is nobody that I want to succeed than her. I don’t care if the “PCS” was “too high” for some peoples opinions. She was the highest scored on PCS in the free and neck and neck to Kostornaia in the short. A lot of people are not going to agree with me and that’s ok. Everyone has a right to have an opinion and without opinions life would be rather mundane. “The gift that keeps on giving.” Landed 3 Triple axels, you cannot count her out 21:42 Loena Hendrickx 23:43 US ladies, Karen Chen 24:40 brief mentions of Amber, Alisa, Bradie and Mariah 27:36 Amber Glenn (only 3 clean triples, pulled out of Cranberry FS, fall on a downgraded 3A) unfortunately Cranberry set the tone and this event did no favours for Amber. Lovely to watch but this was just disappointing. I love the free program and it has so much momentum since last years nationals performance (2021 nationals). SP is not good. She is exciting. She is on TikTok. 30:00 Dave Ashley Cain did land a 3Lz+3Lo in a small competition back in 2014 as a singles skater yes I do agree it maybe very very hard for pairs. 31:24 Madeline Schizas (gaining experience, biggest competitor would be Kaia Router). I really enjoyed Eva Lotta-Kiibus and Anastasiia Gubanova (former Russian slater now representing Georgia who attempted a 3A at the 2019 Dragon Trophy where Elizaveta won that event I believe after she had her injury unclear but that’s all I remember, correct me if I’m wrong but I vaguely remember this somehow). 32:21 Finlandia Mens Event (Was very interesting to say at the very least) 32:28 Dave LOL Dying!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 33:36 Jason Brown (gold medalist here) (no quad attempt better to play it safe than to add more quads if that wasn’t more evident in the mens SP disaster in many skaters) 36:43 Joshua Farris 39:33 Keegan Messing 44:25 Mikhail Kolyada. Both programs are mediocre. He is so much better than what he was given. He needs to go back to Nureyev (White Crow) it would be more memorable than Schindlers List. Some people have noticed the short program choreography is very similar to last years. He should have run away with this but didn’t. 47:24 Dmitri Aliev 48:17 Donavan Carillo (rough fall on a 1S) 48:30 Camden Pulkinen, more of the same 48:57 🤣🤣🤣🤣 49:08 Papadakis and Cizeron 57:09 Chock and Bates 1:02:48 Sara Hurtado and Kirill Khaliavin 1:03:11 Olivia Smart and Adrian Diaz 1:04:34 Finnish Ice dance team 1:42:23 End of the video This is the end of the timestamps! Kostornaia should just go back to her 2019/2020 programs. It could mentally just put her in a more empowered state because of the positive associations she must have with the music.
I just can't understand why they won't give her Adios Nonino again or her old R&J program. I thought they were all lovely back then. But at this point, I'll even take Twilight over the current mess because she clearly loved skating to it.
I still believe in Kostornaya. It was a disappointing skate today, she obviously just gave up after messing up 3A, but she seemed to have the fighting spirit back at the press conference. Said she’s going to go straight onto the treadmill when she gets back, like Eteri told her, to build the stamina, and gonna work on SS, spins, jumps and 3A more to skate clean at Skate Canada. She also talked about how incredibly hard Zagitova and Medvedeva worked in their Olympic season. Maybe it will motivate her. As for the program - was there actually any choreo intended in the FS? Because I’m yet to see any. Unless she totally forgot all of it again, it is literally just her skating (beautifully) in circles. And that dress… 😣
I want to believe in her and the press conference gave me hope, it means that she hasn't gave up yet. In Russia she is the one that I want to make the Olympic team the most. IMO the Vivaldi FS has potential, the music cuts are not bad and it has a nice Chsq moment (in the test skate but it was not there in the Finlandia). They just need to add transitions & choreo between elements. Just don't change the music again, if what people are telling is true that she is slow to memorize programs then changing to a new one would be a bad idea. Also the FS dress is awful, I prefer the previous one as it's more fitted to her. Yeah her SS is still leaps and bounds from her peers. I'd watch her doing crossovers all day rather than some other Russian ladies
@Yohanes EK Yes, I agree with you, changing the programs again would be madness! She had 6 last year and that DEFINITELY didn’t help. It is what it is now. She needs to concentrate on getting the stamina, the elements and perfecting these programs and Danny G needs to add some bloody choreo into them. But the dress definitely needs a rework, that thing around her neck, urgh….
@@tranquilitytranquility1407 also the low part of the dress is weird but the biggest offender is the neck design. I am even nore worried if the program was actually made like that, I hope that Aliona forgot again. Because if so, I don't think her team would have any incentive to rework the program. They have 6 girls, Aliona is not the front runner, and hearing gossip they seem to be in bad relationship right now.
I think they could change the long to the Lovely program she did in Eteri’s show. She already knows it. It suited her well. Gave similar overall vibe to the twilight. It offers a little lyrical and a little sass. Agree the Vivaldi choreography is literally nonexistent. She’s skating around in circles to this incredibly fast violin music. It makes no sense. The dress is awful. I can only assume they don’t give a crap about her programs or how well she does.
@@youarestronger but since they train at the same rink, I'd expect Aliona to be aware that she might not beat Kamila at the point she herself hasnt restored the 3A
@@sfs6501 yes of course she knows reality but seeing it on a competition scoreboard makes it real and more devastating perhaps.tough girl but still a girl
I'm almost mad at Karen and her coaches at this point. Those underrotations have been a problem for years. No reason to have not made a change to address them, even if that meant sending her to someone else to work on jumps.
@@joeyartk karen at least has the big jumps unlike Satoko so she gets good GOE when she is rotating them. This skate was an improvement over her last few free skates because the Eu+3S was rotated for once and the -3T was only q. Had she done the 3Lo+2T (~7.2 points) instead of 3Lo
57:00 the green and black dress madison wears is a reference to billie’s signature green and black hair. i was confused at first too. i think they need to change the silhouette of the outfit because it’s too burlesque.
I don't think Eteri and Danny G were mad at Kostornaia for not doing the second 3A at Test Skates. It looked like she had never planned on doing a second 3A. I read they were mad at her because she forgot the footwork (which you could tell because it looked like she forgot what she was doing midway through the step sequence). Either way, she didn't do what she was supposed to do.
@@TheSkatingLesson Kostornaia said that they planned ONE triple axel for test skates FS, then she came from the ice Eteri said “wow, with such axel you can jump two!”. Nobody attacked her for axel, lol. The whole plan “If one happens then jump two “ is for competitions.
@@SamKreinberg hmm...once Alena was off the ice Eteri said 'with such an axel you should have done a second one, too. But you did not even consider it' so she was mildly scolded imo:D
@@TheSkatingLesson no, your information is incorrect. If you could fully understand Russian, you could of listened exactly what Eteri said to her. She said about step sequence and regarding axel she said: “with such a great first axel you should do the second one”. If you read Aliona’s interview you will get that they were mad that she forgot the step sequence. Stop spreading false rumors and pretending as if you know smth, you look foolish for people who know the truth.
@@Анна-л4ъ3ц there is information we are privy to about what happened after the competition when the skaters met with the federation to evaluate the program and plan for the season.
Kostornaia has the same checked out and terrified expression that Zagitova had at the end of 2018, beginning of 2019, when all those “pray for Alina” videos exploded…
While obviously one would prefer for Schizas to have had a clean short program, I was really heartened at how well she fought through the difficulties; she had a low landing on the Lutz but still went for the 3T as the second part of the combination (it was UR, but that's better than doubling or singling it or not getting a combination at all), and she literally tripped on the entry to the triple loop but still did it. None of the other senior women in Canada have that kind of competitive mindset.
If I have dozens of candle, I'll light them all for Kostornaia to get her act together and be amazing again. It seems that the chance to get into that Olympic team is getting far and far away
How can she get her act together? She follows standard Eteri trajectory. All her girls fall apart in the 3rd year. Trusova might be an exception, but Federation is behind Valieva, so it doesn’t really matter. And Kamila is better all around skater and more consistent. I am interested to see Anna, she is a hot mess during training but always pull herself together for the competition.
Honestly after watching this comp, I am just more convinced that Lindsay will have a Polina Edmunds moment and make the team, she has the third highest total score of the US ladies and has been one of the only ones delivering mostly clean content plus she made the JGP final , nationals will be interesting!
For me, the biggest surprise in the ladies was Gubanova! Her running edge and movement quality were astoundingly good and I really think she deserved much higher pcs than she received.
Me too, she slipped under the radar for me amongs the Russian ladies. But now she can truly show her skating in international events. Not sure about the scores though, the pcs was very low for the performance she gave. I haven't watched the entire video but Dave and Jonathan didn't mention anything about Gubanova and it made me sad 🥲
@Nathaniel Walker I see, I didn't pay attention to junior that year. This is why skaters who compete for Russia lost motivation to regain their jumps post puberty because when they do get consistent, they lost out to prepubercent girls. At least she competes for other country and we get to see her compete internationally even though she may be underappreciated score wise.
@@tatianamokienko She is a special case. You see, she has great technique on her jumps and she even managed to relearn her 3A (and got it more consistent). You'll hard to press another girls who will survive with long career doing so many ultra-c elements. Most of them do not have solid foundation of triples and training ultra-c everyday has high risk of injury.
U didn’t mention the JGP. I like Isabeau but I’m still hoping she gets more speed and gets her chest off her thigh when she takes off on the lutz & flip. She bends so far fwd 🤦♀️. She’s very musical, which is refreshing to see.
The fact that Trusova’s Vivaldi program when she still was junior is much better than the one choreographed for Kostornaia for OLYMPIC SEASON doesnt sit right w me. Does it mean that it is more Trussova style or was Kosto given a really poor choreography. What is wrong :(
@@saraehtor7753 What? There was no interpretation. Trusova has never known how to interpret music, even as a junior. She showed no expression in either her face or her movement. Unfortunately, Kostornaia doesn't seem into the Vivaldi's Four Seasons program and isn't giving much expression either. Both Vivaldi programs were boring and empty, imo.
@@evanperilstein5308 Did you watch Trusova's Big Spender or Kill Bill programs, I wonder? There were quite a lot of interpretational moves by Trusova - which fit to the music accents as well. I am not even talking about Frida program where she has lot of interpretation in movements of her body. So what you said is just not true.
@@evanperilstein5308 Please, me and a lot of people who i know already agreed that Trusova had more interpretation when she was junior. It means that interpretation is a subjective thing. Just because you don’t see anything in Sasha does not mean it does not exist. Facial expression are some very overrated part of interpretation. I dont think it is always necessary. Some people are able to speak with their eyes. By the way, Trusova’s Frida is one of the best SP’s i ever saw, never saw her emoting and interpretating that mature before.
Gosh, why is the packaging of every single Eteri girl so incredibly terrible this season - when for the Olympic cycle both Zagitova and Medvedeva had really beautiful costumes. Yall think they're just stalling until they see who's going to the Olympics, and they'll give them the better dresses? Because I sure hope none of the girls are wearing their final looks 😬
Agree, Eteri girls are in no danger of being named best dressed. They’ve been bad for several years. Their costumes are always either too busy, too heavy, too long, too something. Why can’t they just go simple and elegant? I did like Aliona’s hair for the short though. Something fun and different.
Unpopular opinion: I don't think Valieva's Picasso program was that good. In fact, I think it was her weakest sp. There were WAY too many leg kicks in that program and her movements were way too fast for the music. The choreography was just extremely busy and didn't match the music. I liked last season's sp the most. Even though I don't like Eric Radford, I think the music was less boring than the music for this season's sp.
I appreciate your feedback concerning Kostornaya and yes, many of her fans, myself included are not seeing the same fiery Kostornaya who topped the phenomenal skating trio known as Three A. During the 2019-20 season. She really looks depleted and I am hoping that she will find the same motivation to execute her signature triple axle again. Because she will not be able to compete against a Valieva nor a Trusova. Even Maya Kromykh is knocking out a quad as well.
Yes, spot on analysis of Kostornaia. I am the biggest fan since Adios Nonino SP, but it seems almost all gone. Yes, there was a sign of a spark in the SP but what the hell was that FS I cant understand. She should go to the Lovely FS, that proved to me that she still has it even in 2021… but honestly she isnt hitting ANY music cues in that Vivaldi with literally ZERO transitions. Do the coaches see it? Or are they doing it on purpose?
@@gogroregogoror I think they either gave her an empty program that she doesn't connect with on purpose or it wasn't on purpose but they don't care enough about her to change anything at this point.
@@gogroregogoror David and Jonathon are correct. The programs in which they are offering her do not suit her capricious style. They appear a bit daunting and stagnate. And to be quite honest, i wish Elizaveta Tuktamysheva would retire already. I've been watching her for years and her style hasn't changed much. I would rather watch the growth and development of these younger skaters, including Tutberidze's unique camp of phenomenal skaters.
Kinki and Tokyo regionals also happened this weekend in Japan. Satoko won Tokyo regionals with a total score of 208.85. Kaori had several mistakes in the FS but still won Kinki regionals with a total score of 192.14, with Mana in 2nd with 184.14.
It’s a shame the situation Kostornaia is in with the Eteri camp. To have a skater who is capable of so much more and to give her these crappy vacant programs during an Olympic season. It’s just such a waste. I don’t care how much they dislike her. She’s their student. They’re adults and professionals. Give her actual choreography or tell her to go elsewhere. It’s so odd. Anna, Maia, Daria … all the rest of them have typical Danny G programs. Yes she’s not connecting with the music but also there’s literally no choreography connected to the music either. Wouldn’t the federation give feedback about that in addition to just the technical content?
My heart goes to Kostornaia. It is one thing to perform poorly to a good programme but this is so clearly not designed to be doing her any favours. And how can you skate well when you know noone actually wants you to do well from the very beginning.
can't Polina Tsurskaya choreograph, or Dudakov, or Alina, or maybe the ganitor at the rink? the zambony driver, maybe? at this point, I'll take anyone else but Danny.
Polina is the technical coach of Eteri's juniors, not choreographer. But, some of Danny's choreographies were really good that I still enjoy watching- like Olympic's ''Karenina'', ''Black Swan'', ''Cleopatra'', Kamilla's ''Picasso theme'', Alyona's SP ( season 2019-20.),......etc.
@@nenavujicin7882 We have seen so many of his programmes that I started noticing similarities between them. like Alina's exhibition programme and Adelia's free. he very often begins with the skater putting their hands in front of their eyes. some transitions. you know things like that, you start to notice them after a while. I just want them to find some new blood to help with the choreography. Strangely enough, I like the programme he did for Tarasova/Morozov, but then again that's the 1st time I have seen him choreograph for pairs.
@@o4ka47 , i think - every choreographer, like a skater, has his own signature. A tv commentator of figure skating in my country (a former ISU judge) claims that the choreographies ( programs) of Eteri's students include all elements ( like spins level 4, transitions, 3-3 combos in the second half of program, not to mention 3 axel or quadruples) that is exactly what the judges rank the most ( following the ISU rules).
Her long especially is a snoozefest. Kick up to the moon, it makes no difference. And her jumps look wonky. I am amazed at how she gets height on some of them. I think it's the arms and ballet training. I wonder if it will last through to Beijing
I’m going to say it: Karen Chen cannot rotate her jumps. I am over people arguing she is such a beautiful skater over her necessary technical elements. It’s great that she skated like she could have won 2007 US Nationals. Jenni Saarinen’s SP was so beautiful and she can rotate her jumps in that program.
Amber cannot get any elevation, either. She got around on the loops. What is going on with Amber? Is it nerves and she's just muscling through them? It's like Amber cannot get off the ice ... very worried for her.
Last year was Alyssa done with her career, and Mariah Bell was the one can’t rotate and scrutinized by every one. This year Karen Chen is the new victim and target who can’t rotate. And absolutely don’t deserve the Olympic spot according to so called experts who can’t even do single jumps. Troll like Dave who guaranteed that Alyssa Liu won’t make the Olympic couple of weeks ago proven wrong. According to troll like you and Dave flavored of the season is Lindsey only because can jump. Even if she is young and lovely but I would put my money on Karen over Lindsey. First of all she couldn’t even score better than her junior competitors who didn’t medal gold. What makes you think she will be well received internationally in senior competition just cause she can rotate jumps and land. That girl skate like some body is holding her at gunpoint to skate, compete like most of Eteri girls no emotion at all. Remember international judges willing to give Karen 200+ scores in Finlandia only with 3-2 and including all the carrots in a pretty competitive deep fields. Where as they won’t be that generous with Lindsey, even with Brady who has been consistent for last four years. This is early November and by January I hope all the US ladies will bring their A game.
To fly on any flight or take a train within Canada you have to be fully vaxxed and for any international flight originating in Canada. I imagine Keegan will be getting vaccinated unless he wants to drive home to Alaska from any Canadian competition.
It's super disappointing that Amber doesn't have the material to bring out her pizzazz and personality, but this competition really showed just how unprepared she is for the level of skating she needs to be on. And damn, KMT-what a squandered opportunity, total disaster.
I actually found myself really enjoying kamilla's short program, there are some moments where they really put her flexibility on display to the music and it just feels really olympic and grand!
Funny how you talked about Jason’s bauer, and didn’t mention Kamila’s which was fantastic, as well as how her presentation skills grew in both programs, the smile on the step sequence in free program is fire 🔥
It has to deal with where his ina bauer is placed on the music. Jason's is placed at a swell, which enhances the overall picture. This is a difference in North American vs. Russian program choreography/construction.
It's interesting how everyone is delighted with Jason and his victory- although he's an excellent artist on ice, he's not technically perfect ( a problem with the axel and lutz technique, programs without quadruples,..) while everyone is ready to criticize Kamilla, even for the smallest detail. i'll never understand some ''critics''.
@@nenavujicin7882 exactly!!! I understand to hear that from some lonely haters, but from tsl speakers I was expecting to hear more constructive discussion, but unfortunately it was very bias(
@@Анна-л4ъ3ц , i've noticed that fans ( mostly from USA and Canada) don't like Russian school of skating, but their critique isn't based on some strong arguments. Everyone ''blah-blah,..'' about ''Eteri bonus'', but Jason even fell and didn't get a deduction.
How is Loena Hendrickx' free skate cultural appropriation when I'm not hearing the same comment about Tuk, who has the same kind of music, choreography, and even a harem-type dress? And there was nothing "cultural" about Loena's costume, and I think there should be, tastefully done. Actually, the first song in Loena's program is by Loreena McKennitt, an Irish woman, who put some Middle Eastern flavor in it. Oh yeah, and then there was Zagitova's Egyptian program. I think all of them were beautiful, and that people who cry "cultural appropration" at the the slightest little hint of culture in a program are ridiculous. I don't mean this to sound like a rant, I'm not really angry, I just had to say something.
I have a South Asian background and didn't mind Kwan in a sari design or Davis/White with their Bollywood skate. It's not like they claimed to have designed these themselves adn given them new names.
@@Ksahdia Right. If they did a poor job, or made it comical or campy, that's disrespectful, and may be considered cultural appropriation. In my opinion, anyway. Rusfed setting Kostornaia up is disgusting What about Gubanova’s PCS? I feel like they wanted to teach her a lesson as well (her and any athlete who would potentially want to switch countries)
nobody was setting kostornaia up to be "the 3rd girl" lol. you need to have a crystal ball, to predict tuktamysheva performing this well (this season she was looking bad at test skates, and not so amazing at russian cup stage). i don't think that any of this was planned. judges just went along with the crowd, and were giving the highest PCS for the skaters with the loudest reaction from the stands. as for the russian judge, i haven't checked his/her last name, but i'm pretty sure that was some person from st.petersburg (it's a city on a finnish border), obviosly they are on the mishin's side here, and they don't like eteri very much. it's embarrassing like hell for eteri, that her skaters are losing in PCS to tuktamysheva (both valieva and kostornaia lost to liza), she could only "punish" herself, if this was a set up.
@Nathaniel Walker Kostornaia got a medal because of her clean sp. Loena might have beaten her had she skated cleanly in the sp, but she made two errors.
@Nathaniel Walker obviously, kostornaia is no longer a federation favorite (she's fallen out of favor last year, by switching to plushenko), but that doesn't mean that there was some eteri masterplan behind finlandia trophy, and everything was set up to "punish kostornaia". dave lease always has cool stories, but it's just the beggining of the season and a small practice competition, that no one cares about.
Literally laughed out loud during the discussion on the new Chock/Bates programs when Jonathan says he wasn’t sure where we were going with Madisons costume “there was a butterfly on it.. but she was also kind of trying to be a sexy bug..” and then watching Daves hilarious facial reactions
@@osmantorresximenesjunior7020 Honey, it’s Daft Punk, and they are Fabulous. Olympic podium contenders for sure. Giles + Poirier are lovey skaters but that Free Dance music is cheesy and Baby Boomer - esque. They are playing it safe for the Olympic season. Haven’t seen Hubbell + Donahue’s FD yet. Haven’t seen Stepanova + Bukin’s FD yet. Vicky + Nicky are channeling 2003-2006 Free Dance vibes with that music. The judges will inflate, of course. The speed and twizzles will need to be there.
Hendrix really backed up her worlds performance. She is probably the to non Russian and non Japanese woman. Karen May get the third spot if Bradie has lost too much time to injury. Lindsey has a stronger chance than I would have thought possible a month ago. Thanks for a long recap
Kostornaia’s choreography is terrible and she really does look slow! Hearing Valieva’s scores just before Kostornaia skated probably didn’t help her confidence. Tarasova/Morosov may be mostly winning since moving to Eteri BUT they still haven’t had two clean programs. Karen Chen still can’t deliver a clean (fully rotated) pgrm, BUT she is so well received internationally that she still gets the nod 🤷♀️. The US ladies need help!!!! Amber needs another coach and a sports psychologist.
Is there still time to scrap both of kostornaia's programs? I could see there's time to go back to an old program, but last season she had like a thousand programs and clearly overwhelmed her
There’s a video of Liza and Kamila doing a side-by-side triple lutz-triple toe loop combo and the delay in Kamila’s combo and change of edge is even more glaring. Liza finishes her entire combo before Kamila has even taken off on the toe loop.
IMO she should not be getting more than plus 3 if she needs to reposition the toe in every jump combo. It should not tick the "effortless throughout, including rhythm in jump combination" hence GOE is capped at plus 3. Every 3T she does do not have good rhythm. Other skaters who pause like that is usually they land on flat edge or tilt forward.
Kamila has extremely long legs and she is generally taller than Liza, she naturally needs more time. It is impossible any other way. You have to take that into consideration.
@@mai3334 well perhaps, can’t be sure about that. although I believe she is even taller now. Plus if you add the fact that her legs are longer, that’s at least 2 inches or 5 cm more…
I think Marie France has been really smart when constructing Chock/Bates programs. Let's be honest, technically they're not the best skaters : soooo slow on the ice, Madison edges aren't the best, so much two feets skating... But with this code, they can have a level 1 element and +5 goe, so who cares about great edges? It's a really smart move: let Madi shine, let grab goe and the the best level they can get, I think that's their plan. I don't mind the short dance, but I don't like her costume. The free dance...I don't understand It: they look like they want to mimic the snake dance concept, but they haven't quite reach It.
Her downgraded 3a looks better than Amber's attempt. Amber is really not even in the discussion regardless of how she keeps promoting herself everywhere. I'm feeling Alysa, Bradie and Lindsay at this point.
I love the Fear + Gibson and yet think their technique is clearly not as strong as H+B and FB+S. So curious to see how things work out this season among these three couples!
I think at this point the judges have them well above H&B, rightly or wrongly. FB&S I think are still considered above F&G, the Canadanes were only 0.16 behind F&G at Worlds and like you said they are much stronger on the ice. I think the deciding factor between them will be the programs.
I don't think that Jason will ever attempt a quad in the short program because it's to risky for him. If I am right on this trying a quad in the short and doubling it counts as a zero. Correct? Jason would probably attempt a quad or two in the long program only, if he attempts a quad in the long program at all. He said in an interview with a Russian outlet this weekend that he is working on the quads.
So true about Kostornaya. Unfortunately! But, guys, Kamilla Valiyeva (emphasis on i, by the way) is so special. Her hands, her movements, her agility, her spins. I think you just dont get her type of personality. But even apart from personality, she is the closest to classical ballet. And for me it's just esthetically pleasing to watch her perform. Hey, not to mention she can do quads and 3 axel. Since when it has stopped being special?! 😄 P.s. listened again - you were talking about skating skills not being special... I guess. I'm not an expert of course..
Very good point! I check in here only to pump up my blood pressure (instead of having a strong cup of coffee), 'cause what these guys are always ranting about the Russian ladies is total bullshit.
@@patee101 So funny about blood pressure. I had an extra 'edgy' workout this morning due to the same. I guess it's true hate only sprouts hate. It's best to disconnect. For me at least. The fewer views these two get the better for humanity and our overall health. They don't add much to the conversation anyway.
Kamila is head and shoulders above any other skater, and I'd even argue that she's the best of all time already. If you're curious to check it out, she reminds me of Irina Tchachina, Russian rhythmic gymnast (look up her 2001 and 2003 videos, especially, maybe 2000, too)... It's like the difference between a male principal dancer with huge power and agility and grace juxtaposed to the garden variety ballerina doing the same fouette turns as ever...
two years ago, going into the season, dave lease was saying that rika kihira is the favorite for the season, and trusova, kostornaia & shcherbakova are no match for her. last year dave was saying that COVID hit russian ladies really hard, and they are no longer favorites ("we will never see that 4F again" that's dave words about shcherbakova, after russian test skates last year). "russian ladies are no longer favorites", dave repeating this every year, for the last 6 years or so. he will never learn anything
I'll be worried if they ever start to like one of my favs tbh. I think it's good luck for Dave to be against a skater and make wild claims about their rival's success (RIP Wakaba's Olympics chances). He said Yuzu would add multiple 4lz's and 4lo's to his program and beat Nathan after GPF 2019 too.
@@rop888 it’s always wishful thinking about their faves, and trashing the others with the fandom, and karma comes back to bite. All that trash about Alina in post-Olympics season - she wins Worlds, fandom fave Rika flops. All that trash said about Anna last year - she wins Worlds. Just 2 days ago they were attacking Jackie Wong for saying Valieva doesn’t have power pull, and how they should take away points from combination and make it +COMBO - and then Kostornaia gets it the very next day. It’s rather amazing.
@@almourie lol dani G with a wig. Although seeing the doctor up close (that was the first time I saw him not standing in the shadow beeing creepy), he seemed quite normal lol
I swear, Kosternaia is being sabotaged by Dani G, it is his revenge for her (rightfully) saying his choreo is bad. He even bad mouthed her in the press, how unprofessional and childish of him. She has got the wort choreo out of the bunch and I don't believe for a second that she chose her SP music no matter what the camp says. And her fed cleary dropped her as well. Nonetheless, I'm still rooting for my girl, she HAS to make it to the Olympics. Also bring back "You should see me in a crown" because she sold that! Tuktamysheva getting overscored in PCS in ... something. I don't enjoy her skating. Her jump technique is great but the skating skills are not. She knows how to handle an audience tho, curious if she has a big fanbase in China. My favoutite programms are Karen Chen's SP, her skating is just gorgeous. Loena Hendrix's SP was so fun and enjoyable, she is shaping out to be one of my new favourites. Loved Chock/Bates' RD. But did not get the FD at all, it was kinda snoozy although their lifts are phenomenal. It gave me Tron-vibes which I have no clue why you would get inspired by that. Still, I want them to get silver for Madison lol. P/C need to get gold, their RD is everything!
I think its possible if Aliona chose her SP music. She seems to like such modern or blues music . And she looked enjoying the SP very much for me! Too bad it didnt apply in the FS (classical music)
So far I haven't seen a dance team choose to do more upbeat free cuz of the RD genre and I'm feeling the dance free is going to be the most snooze event this season even when some programs are actually great...
i like the chock/bates ‘contact’ fd! it’s memorable and the lifts are sensational. kudos to them for picking daft punk music i haven’t heard a million times before.
Thank you for all of the great content! Two videos and a CYA in one day - you’re spoiling us :) I agree about Lilah and Lewis. They are keeping me excited about the future of dance. Dance is missing a great rivalry like that past few Olympic quads. A believable rivalry - not a manufactured one like Nicky/Vicky vs Gabi/Gui that none of us are really buying because it’s no question who’s best.
For seasons is perhaps my favorite piece of classical music, and I can tell you that the choreo and how to program is structured it just does NOT respond to the music... in the dramatic parts and the most energetic moments of the piece she is doing crossovers, or she is transitioning from one move to another. For those who knoe 4 seaons it leave them wanting. The short is ok, but that free needs to be scrapped. In fact the music cuts are awful as well
it's a masterpiece! I love Vivaldi's 4 Seasons too. but agree, the choreo is kinda empty. idk if its because the music is challenging enough to be a skating music or what, but Aliona needs more choreo
The music cuts are fine in my opinion. But depending on how they want to structure the choreo and placing elements, music cuts might change. IMO they just need to keep this and improve it. Vivaldi 4 seasons screams Olympic program.
@@yohanes2034 No, she doesn't respond to the music, which is the most important thing. She responded to the Billie Eilish "Lovely" program that she did as an exhibition over the summer. They need to consider giving her that. It was supposed to be her long program last season before she left Eteri. It might not scream Olympic like Vivaldi's Four Seasons does, but it's more important that she skate to something she responds to and interprets. She's giving us nothing to the Four Seasons program.
I think Beth Hart has a great voice and quite a few good songs (my dad plays her all the time), but most of it isn't good skating music. Just because a song is good doesn't mean it's good for skating and just because a song isn't good for skating doesn't mean it's bad.
Yay!!!! Happy 40th Jonathan. I want to say what a really interesting event. The season is young yet. There were some skaters at I love and programs that feel so empty that I did not like. Am i the 3rd person to write.
Not a word about Gubanova who beated your beloved Karen Chen you were talking so much? Not a word about Kiibus who almost beat her? There are other interesting countries in skating except Russia, USA, or Canada, you know ;) Also about having great one leg extension on the jumps landing as presumably fake sign of a great SS. Ok - if skating on one foot after jump landings is that easy - then for sure the so many skaters with presumably better SS than Valieva's could do it as easily as piece of cake, right? Then why there is noone who can do it like her? C'mon - it's that easy to get that free PCS bonus just doing like that - why they can't do it?! They don't want free PCS or what? 0_0
other skaters are not thought to extend the leg with an open hip after each landing, but they don't have such a bad technique for combos either. Valieva is an exceptional talent and very smart about utilizing it, but in this scene of increasing difficulty immensely in a very short time, she was forced to develop the difficult content before the basis was there. And it's not a problem for her scores, cause she will get high GOE even if an euler is not an euler and blade is fishtailing between jumps. That's because of how polished the entire thing looks when extended. One thing that many people hope to see is her enjoying skating and winning.
@@ГалинаПугачёва-ф1и I enjoyed Gubanova's free skate more than Eva-Lotta's. Gub emoted throughout, I believed her, and her skating is smoother. I was surprised that she finished behind Eva.
I love the Papadakis/Cizeron RD. Innovative, those twirled killed me. Gabby was spectacular. No cringe factor like a lot of the RD. I agree with Dave, the FD is growing on me. Was looking for Tango moves, but I see now that it is deconstructed or abstract. I call it a balletic tango. The skills were very good. I also really like Fear/Gibson FD. Happy Birthday Jonathan.
I love the new Chock/Bates free! It's obviously very conceptual, they explain in the podcast that she's an alien and he's an astronaut and the dance is about them making "contact" :)
is there any real proof that rozanovxkostornaia is true or is it just a rumor? She has a lot of fans on twitter who make a fuss about anything involving her name, but I don't see anyone commenting on it (which would be a scandal)
@@ask_Katherine …and probably bad for her mental health if she gets wind of the discussions. Can you imagine being in her position? Obviously, what is discussed here does get back to Russia. To be an 18 year old girl and encounter it. More damaging than anything else anyone claims about her coaching situation.
Isn't this Valieva's first senior competition? When I saw her I was thinking, she doesn't have joy. But then someone said it's her first senior level competition, and I thought, well, that's a factor, plus she's growing and probably very nervous.
Her first senior international competition. This competition is the first I saw her actually smile during her routine. She seemed genuinely happy. Hopefully she's been working on a new program because she used this one last season and definitely wore it out. Kind of hard to show any kind of joy to a program like this lol
She's a million times less nervous than she used to be. Go watch her junior programs. She legit looked like she'd cry every time she stepped on the ice and didn't have many facial expressions. In Bolero she at least tries to sell the end of the program. And maybe it's just me, but people who plaster on a big smile on their face when it's not necessary kind of bug me. Mariah did this and Alysa does as well.
I really like LeDuc and Cain, and their skating. I just hope they can make it back to their 2019 level. I don't know what to think about Calalang & Johnson.
@@TheSkatingLesson are you even have a notion about what BV is, I wonder? Wakaba just don't have elements in her program which allows her to compete with Russians in TES - even if she got 10s in PCS. That's just reality.
Wakaba first needs to survive Japanese Nationals, before even getting to Olympics. and they want to send vanilla Rino Matsuike instead of her, and she will literally be wasted spot in that case, likely in lower half of top 10 if not outside of it.
Very interesting to me with Kostornaia. Even with eating choreography, the audience seemed to go crazy for her at test skates. At times, it was almost fanatical. I’m sure she has a definite following that gets crazy, but the audience had hoped she was back. She is loved by many and hated by some, but aren’t they all? She’s faster on the ice there. She gets so slow now when she has doubts and it just seems to create more problems in what is causing those doubts- jumps. I just hope she figures it out. I’ve accepted that some skater I like won’t make OG! Fine, but I need some fierceness for Grand Prix finals at least or Russian nationals and from every single one! They cannot coast AT ALL like some of the top ladies in other countries. They have to fight every single time because the depth is there and not just with Eteri and not just at the senior level. Many juniors are doing content on par with or more complex than seniors. It’s a TES arms race and even PCS. Liza realized it was an Achilles heel and worked in BOTH areas.
I watched some performances of Finlandia Trophy, and the Russian women on the podium was predictable. Valieva falling on the 3A in both short and free was frankly, shocking. It's true, she has gotten taller, and having two quads in the free seems to not make landing the 3A as important. Then again, if Valieva is up against Trusova this season, she really needs to be super clean in both programs. Appreciate your analysis of the Russian women all the same; even they have their setbacks and flaws, which is fine. Kostornaia falling to 3rd in the Free was inevitable without her 3A. Didn't like her costume much there, either. Liza's Scheherazade program is completely unmemorable to me. Once Scherbakova comes back, there won't be much room for her on the Olympic/Worlds team. Jason winning 1st place here was awesome; both programs are Olympic worthy. Kolyada's Free to Schindler's List may have the better costume, but that's it. He should go back to his Nureyev program; why beg the comparison with Jason Brown, anyways? Kolyada can shine with Nureyev and really stand out. Don't know what he and his coach are thinking. The Spanish pair team was pleasantly surprising. They have potential, and I look forward to seeing them progress. Knew that Papadakis/Cizeron would win here. The two Spanish ice dance teams seem to be neck and neck; it's too bad only one of them can go to the Olympics. Wow, Asian Open Trophy and Skate America is so close, this season will be so much fun!
" It's true, she has gotten taller, and having two quads in the free seems to not make landing the 3A as important." THREE quads. She is having three quads in the free. Just fixing you.
You say that because you're Georgian lol Even with her underscored PCS, both Hendrickx and Kostornaia had higher TES in the long program. Giving her the PCS she deserved wouldn't have been enough for her to medal.
@@evanperilstein5308 Because they did not give her high GoEs. It is not about being Georgian lol. She has not made any mistake and was behind Kostornaya full of step-outs. Go and rewatch her skate, what choreography she had and her skating skills... Yes, it would not have been, because they gave her lower GoEs and PCS in the Short Programme as well. This is why I said that it was terrible judging. And actually,t he US judge was the one who gave her the lowest points.
@@evanperilstein5308 gubanova is russian, georgians do not like russians even if they’re representing georgia, for obvious reasons, i don’t think he’s being biased
@@iosebdzamukashvili5360 Kostornaia only had two step-outs and both her triple-triple combos were fully rotated and in the bonus. Gubanova got a q for her first 3+3 and it wasn’t in the bonus. Plus, Kostornaia’s jumps are bigger. That’s why she gets more GOE. Gubanova’s PCS was too low, but her TES was pretty accurate.
I don’t think your opinions on Kostornaia are as controversial as you think. Everyone is in agreement that she seems done, the spark is gone, the SS seem gone. I think we’re going to see a huge boom coming from her - good or bad, who knows? Also, Kamila is someone I have controversial opinions on. I don’t think she has Olympic Gold medalist vibes. She is the best skater in the world overall, but that’s not everything in my opinion. She just doesn’t give me that feeling in my stomach where you go, “That’s the one!”
Idk if it’s just me but kostornia now and last season is like a repeat of what happened to zagitova after the olympics. At one point zagitova”s signature move the lutz+loop combo started to be understated every time and then she even completely couldn’t do it at a point. Kostornias signature jump the 3A was completely gone last year and is being under rotated, and stepped out of this year. Not to mention her other jumps which cannot compare to her 2019 self.
Regarding Kamila scores just for your info: Kihira received 35+ components in her first adult season in SP. No one was embarrassed by the fact that at the last start in the juniors of the JWC 2018 (8th place) its components in the SP were 28+ ... and in the FP - 57+. During the offseason, they miraculously grew to 67+. No one bits her in terms of the growth of 🍄 in components during the transition from juniors to adults.
Rika received 35 PCS at GPF, not at her first competition unlike Valieva. Rika only got 32 PCS at home competition at NHK. It is different if a skater receives such high scores so early in the season like at Finlandia because those scores will only go up from here. It will be 38 by the Olympics...
@@flywings111 yeah, such a big difference 32 or 35. Of course, Kamila will get higher, because she improves her performance with every competition. Karen Chen already skates many years and what? Does she improves? No. Where is the logic than? Are we going to give score in regards to the skating skills or to how many years someone skated?
Agree about Valieva's skating skills. The extension in the crossovers is lacking - they aren't that powerful. I mean, I think she should get high PCS. Just not THAT high, especially this early in the season.
And she's yet another Eteri skater with terrible feet! And all of those sideways kicks - enough! But she finally is feeling that Bolero music and her sons are spectacular!
If Valieva from your point of view is full of different issues but as all we saw she is available to deliver content which is literally unreachable for the winner of the men competition, do you really think it matters what you’ve just meticulously analyzed?
I totally agree with Jonathan’s analysis of Keegan’s FP! That clapping was so loud and distracting anyone could lose not just focus but the sound itself! He was very nice and polite not to say that at K&C.
It got annoying for me too. The audience clapped for more than half of the program like come on. Home is also not suitable for a long program just because how repetitive it sounds
Happy Birthday Jonathan! And yeah to Sara Hurtato and Dave Lease's "Polish" blues, so here for it! I also find Sara Hurtato's Beyonce in the short program so awesome, she's great. It feels like if Sara and Olivia could skate together they would make an amazing Spanish dance team, lol.
So appreciate the P&C FD discussion…I love them so much, but I don’t get it. I kept thinking I need to find out more about tango…maybe it shouldn’t be that hard though.
Why you two are terrible to KV plus Russian skaters in general? Wakaba H doesn’t have much transition going in and out of jumps. Yes she has triple Axel, great! Name one 15 years old skater who has extra ordinary spins,3A , 3 Quads ,excellent extension level 4 foot work in a programs Outside of Russia ? Why can you enjoy what KV can do now ? Why talk about future which no one can tell in advance? Just be a good sport and a positive person which may be good for you . Thank you .

0:00 Introduction
1:01 Depth of skating at CS Finlandia Trophy
Finlandia was amazing!
2:45 Laura Barquero/Marco Zandron (Spanish Pairs Team)
2:54 Finlandia Ladies:
3:00 Russia (Aliona-teaching her a lesson? Russian judge placing Kostornaia lower than Loena Hendrickx)
3:51 Russian Federation is over the drama and with Kostornaia and Rozanov (aka Hot Sergei) **I strongly believe that the Seasons FS is just so bad and I love Vivaldi Four Seasons so very much but they did Kostornaia so dirty with that long program and I think the short as well is dreadful as Dave once said that Beth Hart has one good song and the rest is just noise (mentioned again in this video at 9:38) (granted I loved Gracie Gold’s long program from last season “War in my mind” by Beth Hart), I really believe that both programs need to be changed or maybe it’s just too late at this point maybe the damage has been done too severely.
4:05 Kostornaia NOT doing the second 3A at the Russian Test Skates
4:33 Russian and Eteri Bonus
5:47 reference to PCS (Tuktamysheva being higher than both Kostornaia and Valieva)
7:07 Kostornaia was Not supposed to be above Valieva (in short program) however nobody expected Valieva to fall on the triple axel either.
7:54 Kostornaia losing to Tuktamysheva
Do you foresee Eteri dumping Aliona if she doesn’t do better this season?
9:06 I agree with Jonathan
12:17 Zagitova
12:34 Valieva, 3A falls, PCS debacle as a senior debut whether it is correct or not.
16:52 Wakaba (3A)
17:17 Jennifer Kirk
17:43 Sambo 70 risk reward. Backing up with the judges but poor choreography.
18:33 Trusova
18:52 Valieva SS (skating skills) 9.17 in the free program for skating skills. Free leg (what Polina Edmunds said)
19:53 Empress Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, she won the short program!! “The gift that keeps on giving.” Landed 3 Triple axels, you cannot count her out

23:43 US ladies, Karen Chen
24:40 brief mentions of Amber, Alisa, Bradie and Mariah
27:36 Amber Glenn (only 3 clean triples, pulled out of Cranberry FS, fall on a downgraded 3A) unfortunately Cranberry set the tone and this event did no favours for Amber.
32:21 Finlandia Mens Event
(Was very interesting to say at the very least)
32:28 Dave LOL Dying!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
33:36 Jason Brown (gold medalist here) (no quad attempt better to play it safe than to add more quads if that wasn’t more evident in the mens SP disaster in many skaters)
36:43 Joshua Farris
39:33 Keegan Messing
44:25 Mikhail Kolyada. Both programs are mediocre. He is so much better than what he was given. He needs to go back to Nureyev (White Crow) it would be more memorable than Schindlers List. Some people have noticed the short program choreography is very similar to last years.
He should have run away with this but didn’t.

Kostornaia should just go back to her 2019/2020 programs. It could mentally just put her in a more empowered state because of the positive associations she must have with the music.
I agree. Also, there's nothing particularly interesting about her current programs. At least the Twilight program was fun and different.
Also Kostornaia go back Twilight FP and Keep her new SP.
I just can't understand why they won't give her Adios Nonino again or her old R&J program. I thought they were all lovely back then. But at this point, I'll even take Twilight over the current mess because she clearly loved skating to it.
@@LexyMay93 Most of the conflict last year happened because she didn't get the music she wanted. This year they gave her what she wanted.
@@praetorrus We don't know that for sure. Allegedly she was told to say that by Plushenko and his team.
You know Dany will say it was intricately choreographed but she just left everything out cuz she's lazy
I actually am worried about Kostornaia's mental health at this point. That would explain why she seems so checked out.
Skating after Valieva must have been a mental challenge as it would for anyone
@@youarestronger yeah she definitely heard Kamila’s 249 total score

I'm almost mad at Karen and her coaches at this point. Those underrotations have been a problem for years. No reason to have not made a change to address them, even if that meant sending her to someone else to work on jumps.
Yeah drives me nuts as to why she didnt find a proper jump coach like Ghislain or Mishin
She has been like that for years though. Not surprised.
Nobody Tammy coaches can rotate. They need to do something about this.
Karen is kind of like Satoko in Japan. Very good at everything but jumps. Unfortunately in skating today, jumps are by far the biggest thing.
I agree
I wish the whole look is more edgy. Like with straight slicked hair.
@@PeiwenTanbassoon821 yes. it needs to be edgier. billie loves hoodies so she could incorporate a hoodie into a look.
What did you think of Gubanova’s skating and score?
I don't think Eteri and Danny G were mad at Kostornaia for not doing the second 3A at Test Skates. It looked like she had never planned on doing a second 3A. I read they were mad at her because she forgot the footwork (which you could tell because it looked like she forgot what she was doing midway through the step sequence). Either way, she didn't do what she was supposed to do.
Incorrect. There was a discussion with the federation about it.
Stop spreading false rumors and pretending as if you know smth, you look foolish for people who know the truth.
@@Анна-л4ъ3ц there is information we are privy to about what happened after the competition when the skaters met with the federation to evaluate the program and plan for the season.
I’m down for any Jason Brown costume as long as he keeps his hair cut. Thank you.
Recognition must be awarded today: David interrupted Jonathan WAY more less than in previous videos.
I totally noticed that too!! 😄
46:00 Kolyada - Absofu*inglutely. That White Crow (Nureyev) music. He transcended that music, like Jason does with Sinnerman.
I hope he brings it back!
And the World Championships FP outfit with the tank top underneath(!)
Aliona is a contemporary skater and she excels in contemporary music.
I agree
However, she was insisting on this year music by herself :(
@@katerinabrave2980 she should go back to her twilight fp . She nailed that. And had fun
@@ileana823100 Agree!!! But she was rooting for current SP and FP😓
Yes - so true
@@yohanes2034 what about Tuktamysheva, who is 24 years old?
@@tatianamokienko She is a special case. You see, she has great technique on her jumps and she even managed to relearn her 3A (and got it more consistent). You'll hard to press another girls who will survive with long career doing so many ultra-c elements. Most of them do not have solid foundation of triples and training ultra-c everyday has high risk of injury.
Amber should try switching coaches. Amber’s really talented but it’s always the same story and the same C-list packaging every year with her.
It is too late at this point.
Two TSL episodes with Dave and Jonathan in one day, a real Sunday treat! Happy Birthday Jonathan!
U didn’t mention the JGP. I like Isabeau but I’m still hoping she gets more speed and gets her chest off her thigh when she takes off on the lutz & flip. She bends so far fwd 🤦♀️. She’s very musical, which is refreshing to see.
I liked her!
The fact that Trusova’s Vivaldi program when she still was junior is much better than the one choreographed for Kostornaia for OLYMPIC SEASON doesnt sit right w me. Does it mean that it is more Trussova style or was Kosto given a really poor choreography. What is wrong :(
@Nathaniel Walker I find that program very well interpreted by Trusova not just jumps. She was way more interpreting as junior. Now not so
@@saraehtor7753 What?
Something fun and different.
someone in the dress department is getting too "creative".....
I miss the fire!
@@TheSkatingLesson I felt she had a bit of fire in the sp, and then didn't have any in the lp.
Karen’s sp, while pretty to the eye, is generally the same choreography movements she has every year.

Any chance you can share Hugo’s number for music editing?
😂😂
The same could be said about Jason Brown. Except he may even go farther back.

It's super disappointing that Amber doesn't have the material to bring out her pizzazz and personality, but this competition really showed just how unprepared she is for the level of skating she needs to be on. And damn, KMT-what a squandered opportunity, total disaster.

How is Loena Hendrickx' free skate cultural appropriation when I'm not hearing the same comment about Tuk, who has the same kind of music, choreography, and even a harem-type dress? And there was nothing "cultural" about Loena's costume, and I think there should be, tastefully done. Rusfed setting Kostornaia up is disgusting
What about Gubanova’s PCS?
Loena might have beaten her had she skated cleanly in the sp, but she made two errors.
yeah even Rukavicin didn't look happy
@Nathaniel Walker obviously, kostornaia is no longer a federation favorite (she's fallen out of favor last year, by switching to plushenko), but that doesn't mean that there was some eteri masterplan behind finlandia trophy, and everything was set up to "punish kostornaia". dave lease always has cool stories, but it's just the beggining of the season and a small practice competition, that no one cares about.

Still time!

Chock and Bates have said that they plan on going on: they will not retire after the OG...
Really, that's surprising, it's their 3rd and his 4th Olympics. Where did they say that?
I would love it!
After Finlandia, Lindsey has a real chance at making this us olympic team.
100%
Her downgraded 3a looks better than Amber's attempt. Amber is really not even in the discussion regardless of how she keeps promoting herself everywhere. I'm feeling Alysa, Bradie and Lindsay at this point.
Not a fan of Lindsay’s skating, but as of right now, she deserves it more than many of the other senior skaters
@@Ogusername-h7e american girls are so bad..lol
I still want Kostarnaia to make for Olympic team... But I agree with everything you said...
I love the Fear + Gibson and yet think their technique is clearly not as strong as H+B and FB+S. So curious to see how things work out this season among these three couples!
Agreed.
I think at this point the judges have them well above H&B, rightly or wrongly. FB&S I think are still considered above F&G, the Canadanes were only 0.16 behind F&G at Worlds and like you said they are much stronger on the ice. I think the deciding factor between them will be the programs.
I wanna know why Liza isn't doing a 3T anywhere in the free. That's That's extra point or 2 that could really bring her up.
He also said he will attempt it at Skate Canada in two weeks. In the free of course.
Dave, I disagree about Amber Glenn. While I would not bet on her now, the USOC is not going to remember Finlandia if she’s skating strong in Nov/Dec.
P.s. listened again - you were talking about skating skills not being special... I guess. I'm not an expert of course..
Very good point! I check in here only to pump up my blood pressure (instead of having a strong cup of coffee), 'cause what these guys are always ranting about the Russian ladies is total bullshit.
her gliding is not the best in bussiness (but not bad nono), but her jump exits look amazing
Happy Birthday Jonathan! Thank you for always sharing your love for figure skating💛💚💙
I just hope we see two perfect lion king skates at the Olympics
💯
two years ago, going into the season, dave lease was saying that rika kihira is the favorite for the season, and trusova, kostornaia & shcherbakova are no match for her. last year dave was saying that COVID hit russian ladies really hard, and they are no longer favorites ("we will never see that 4F again" that's dave words about shcherbakova, after russian test skates last year).
"russian ladies are no longer favorites", dave repeating this every year, for the last 6 years or so. he will never learn anything
well, nothing will top Anna's "fluke lucky russian nationals win"... 👀
@@hannibaljustincase9985 yeah yeah she “flukes” wins for 3 nationals in the row.
Billy Eilish had her hair died half neon green and half black until recently. Maybe that has something to do with the color of Chock's RD costume.
Will the judges get that?
@@TheSkatingLesson 😂 I don't know if they even know who Billy Eilish is.
The sports doctor sitting with Kamila in the kiss and cry was the best part 😂
Yes! I was so confused and thought danny g had gotten a wig 😭
@@almourie lol dani G with a wig. Although seeing the doctor up close (that was the first time I saw him not standing in the shadow beeing creepy), he seemed quite normal lol
Omg yes 😂
Yay! Happy 40th Jonathan!
Happy 40th Jonathan!!! 🎉
So far I haven't seen a dance team choose to do more upbeat free cuz of the RD genre and I'm feeling the dance free is going to be the most snooze event this season even when some programs are actually great...
Happy Birthday Jonathan!! I turn 40 this week too! Another great episode. Hope to see you both at Skate America!
i like the chock/bates ‘contact’ fd! it’s memorable and the lifts are sensational. kudos to them for picking daft punk music i haven’t heard a million times before.
Would anyone need translated timestamps? Just wondering if it is needed because I can run it on google translate
Thank you for all of the great content! Two videos and a CYA in one day - you’re spoiling us :)
I agree about Lilah and Lewis. They are keeping me excited about the future of dance. Dance is missing a great rivalry like that past few Olympic quads. A believable rivalry - not a manufactured one like Nicky/Vicky vs Gabi/Gui that none of us are really buying because it’s no question who’s best.
Our pleasure!
Whut???? He's 40!?!? I thought he was my younger!
Not a word about Gubanova who beated your beloved Karen Chen you were talking so much? Not a word about Kiibus who almost beat her? There are other interesting countries in skating except Russia, USA, or Canada, you know ;)
Also about having great one leg extension on the jumps landing as presumably fake sign of a great SS. 0_0
We can’t discuss every skater. We would be here for hours. There were too many interesting skaters and storylines to discuss this week.
other skaters are not thought to extend the leg with an open hip after each landing, but they don't have such a bad technique for combos either. One thing that many people hope to see is her enjoying skating and winning.
in one russian TV programme they said that Alyona herself wanted blues for the SP - so possibly she does not know what she wants herself :(
Moment of the week: Hendrix over Korstonaia... it's a 😱 moment
She deserved it 🤷
@@ГалинаПугачёва-ф1и I enjoyed Gubanova's free skate more than Eva-Lotta's. Gub emoted throughout, I believed her, and her skating is smoother. I was surprised that she finished behind Eva.
I cannot agree about Valieva she is magnificent she takes my breath away
They don’t like any favors from Tutberidze team as I’ve noticed . I don’t think it’s about Valieva lol

@@ask_Katherine …and probably bad for her mental health if she gets wind of the discussions. Can you imagine being in her position? Obviously, what is discussed here does get back to Russia. @@ask_Katherine So sad….
I would love to believe that Wakaba could stop the Russian dominance at the Olympics but I don’t trust the judges
100%
@@diademerouge clean for clean, she would have a shot with PCS judged according to the written rules. Clean for clean is obviously unlikely.
@@TheSkatingLesson are you even have a notion about what BV is, I wonder? Wakaba just don't have elements in her program which allows her to compete with Russians in TES - even if she got 10s in PCS. That's just reality.
I am afraid the main enemy of Wakaba is herself - not judges.
Wakaba first needs to survive Japanese Nationals, before even getting to Olympics. and they want to send vanilla Rino Matsuike instead of her, and she will literally be wasted spot in that case, likely in lower half of top 10 if not outside of it.
Johnathan, may there be many vases in your near future! Happy Birthday!! 🎁🎊🎈

@@SergejKrolik Ah, right. Well then, she'll need to land all her elements and her 3As to beat Trusova, who'll have 5 quads in her Free.
@@Essylte Trusova needs to land 5 quads in the competetion first
Yes I feel sad that both Spanish teams can't go to the Olympics. They are both good and both deserve to go.
Valieva beat 3 records with falling twice. She might need the 3A, but perhaps not both. It depends on what will Trusova answer with.
Gubanova 🇬🇪 should have been third!!! Such a terrible judging.
Mana Kawabe landed her 3A at a Japanese domestic event, as did two other juniors, and a Novice A girl landed a 4T
In an Olympic year with the weak Japanese Fed going against the Russian and US feds, I doubt 3A will make a difference for Mana.
I doubt it was in her first competition though. Probably toward the end after she established herself.
@@joeyartk no, I have checked the scores.
More of a problem is that she pumps her back during her crossovers.
She landed 3 quads , one of them in second part. Do you really think it matters what’s going on with her back? Lol

The PCS scores in this event especially ladies was such a joke
Happy Birthday Jonathan! And yeah to Sara Hurtato and Dave Lease's "Polish" blues, so here for it! I also find Sara Hurtato's Beyonce in the short program so awesome, she's great. It feels like if Sara and Olivia could skate together they would make an amazing Spanish dance team, lol.
