  • Tony Christie (real name: Anthony Fitzgerald) was born in Conisbrough, South Yorkshire in 1943 and is an English musician, singer and actor. In 1971 he had his breakthrough with the single "Las Vegas" on MCA Records. The writing team of Mitch Murray and Peter Callander composed and produced this and subsequent singles and LPs. In the 1970s his biggest hits were "(Is This the Way to) Amarillo" and "I Did What I Did for Maria". In the 1990s he had some success in Germany, notably with the Jack White-produced albums "Welcome to my Music" (1991) and "Welcome to my Music 2" (1992). He made his comeback into the top ten of the singles charts in the UK in 1999 with the band The All Seeing I and a re-recording of "Walk Like a Panther". His best-of album "The Definitive Collection" was released in 2005, was seven weeks the number one in the charts and was certified double platinum. He also released other albums such as "Simply in Love" (2006), "Made in Sheffield" (2008), "Now's the Time" (2011), "Best Of - The Greatest Hits from 50 Years" (2012) and "Pop Nonsense" (2019). His official autobiography "Tony Christie - The Singer" was also published in 2019.
Spotlight was a music programme for young people broadcast by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) between 1968 and 1978. It was the equivalent of Beat Club or Musikladen in Germany.

Got him to autograph this single when l met him at the Willows Salford in 1980. I told him it should have been a bigger hit in 1971 when it reached 14 in the UK charts. Little did we know it would make N01 in 2005!!

I can't believe the Austrians have Tony Christie singing in a tent. What next Elvis in a caravan?

Aqui no Brasil tem uma versão dessa música com Ângelo Máximo Nunca mais eu vou partir e ficou legal também e agora é que descobri que tem a original que é a americana, porque na frente aparece o nome.
