    On your complaint about breaking the theme of having to “run back to deal with an eviction notice during a battle.” I believe others have stated that the actual fight/interaction is supposed to take place over several days. Hence, the Scheme/Plan tokens and side schemes. Throughout those days the heroes have to deal with their Alter-ego obligations, which yes are trivial in comparison to fighting but as you see even in the MCU, they care a lot about living normal lives. I think it’s pretty cool.

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If that's the case, then no problem. Just seems odd on some schemes, for e..g Ultron attacking the military base for example or even just Rhino breaking in to a bank.

    • @jellorelic
      @jellorelic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheBrokenMeeple - I believe even the schemes themselves are supposed to represent multiple-hour to multiple-day events.. you're not just dealing with Rhino as he's pounding on the walls of the bank, you're trying to stop him from gathering blueprints, recruiting henchmen, having a quick dust-up when you spot him somewhere but that fight ends in escape not capture/defeat... that sort of thing.

    I like Champions over Legendary. I felt more of a Marvel character in Champions rather than random character and item cards centralized around a particular theme.

    My personal take on switching between alter-ego and hero form make sense.
    In marvel comics, the battle usually drag out more than a day. So when the hero switch back to alter-ego, take it as they retreat or the enemy retreat to fight another day.

    Wait, are we complaining about a FFG insert when they actually made something marginally better than a piece of cardboard with a trough in the middle? lol

      Not the insert, the lack of dividers.

      @@TheBrokenMeeple Havin the game, I actually agree with this. YAY they put an insert but come on no dividers. I had to create my own. How could they not think about Dividers...I would even pay $5 more for the dividers sigh

    Rhino is a Spidey villain. Klaw is a Black Panther villain. Ultron is an Avengers villain. This is the Avengers cycle (Avengers A as the set icon in the bottom corner of the cards.)
    The three villains link up as a small campaign. Ultron, as the Crimson Cowl hires Klaw (an arms dealer) to get him some gear. Klaw hires Rhino to steal the vibranium he needs to make the gear.

      Cool, yeah I saw the progression. My knowledge of Black Panther outside of the movie though is non existent.

    • @jellorelic
      @jellorelic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting.. I had no idea Klaw started as a BP baddie all the way back in the 60s.. my experience with him was all in the 80s when he was firmly in the Avengers/FF pool. Glad I checked before correcting you. =)
      Would it be correct to assume he's been swung back around to the Wakanda end of the universe with the Present Powerful Panther Popularity?

    I still don’t know wether to buy Marvel Champions or not. I got halfways (almost) with LotR, and got AH with one deluxe cycle. And finally I got Sentinels otM.
    And besides that Marvel is not my favourite universe. But it sure looks great and sounds fun 🙂
    Thanks for the long awaited review Luke, others seems as enthusiastic as you do, so it sure gets popular.

      I would be honest with yourself and say whether you would keep up with releases given that you have two other LCG games on the go.
      Maybe a try before you buy scenario as well as budgeting for time/cost.

  • @grog3514

    My gaming group is 4 guys. We like strategy and games with interaction. Which game would be best? I have Aeons end coming and everyone already liked the campaign for hero realms. Should I go for Sentinels or this? How much down time would there be with 4 players?

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the down time with 4 is a bit much in Champions even though there is some interaction . Both games work great though I will say, Aeon was based heavily on Sentinels. Sentinels I say is better and it's perfectly balanced at 4 players.
      If you want something a bit different, then Champions will still work out.

  • @Clappincardboard

    I’m loving this game too. Like you said it’s similar to their other lcgs like Arkham and Lotr but has its own feel. My only complaint for this game is the cost of the core box is really Op. My favorite things about this is how comic accurate the heroes and villains feel and play along with the deck building mechanic with the different aspects. I think even though they are different this will prob make legendary obsolete for me unless I’m okaying with more than 2 people and they are new gamers.

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's more pricey but you are at least getting a complete core set and don't have to buy more than one.

    • @Clappincardboard
      @Clappincardboard 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Broken Meeple yea this is true. Buying 2-3 core sets for Lotr and 40k conquest was a tough pill to swallow.

  • @ionutsandu2830

    I really don’t think that 3 or 4 players is an issue with experienced players who are going at it fast. 4 might be too much but with 3 it should definitely be a superior experience than 2. That’s my theory at least, haven’t gotten to trying it yet with 3 or 4

    • @EclecticCamel
      @EclecticCamel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, of my 6 plays, half of those were at 3 player and I found that to be just as good as 2 player, just different. 2 is a bit snappier but it's almost over too soon. 4 was too slow. 3 may just be the sweet spot.

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a slower game though and you're not always going to have those kind of players. 1-2 player has been the sweet spot for me and I love it solo. 3 player only if everyone knows the game inside and out and even then the HP scale up quite dramatically. 4 player i'm avoiding like the plague.

    As for the dividers... The cycle ends with the story pack in July 2020, and the nature of that pack's contents are still a secret (as are the identities of the heroes from hero packs 4, 5, &6 ... though we do know it's a female and two males), so dividers could be a spoiler for the cycle, so I am betting that the story pack will have the dividers in.

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can settle for that if they will be provided at the cycles end, that's a decent compromise.

    • @thelastmotel
      @thelastmotel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheBrokenMeeple It's like with Arkham Horror. You have to wait for the "Return to..." boxes to get the dividers and that

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's true, though I have custom crates for that so the dividers don't work due to orientation. However something like that for this would be nice.

    will you make another video after year of expansions? cause this game just get 200% better with all the expansions. Although, to player count, 3 experienced players has synergies and interactions and feel richier than 2. but 2 is best imho :)

  • @larrye
    @larrye 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Unfortunately, my first game was with 4p and in expert mode & It went way too long. I just worry that each deck has a way it should be played (like Ironman) and you just play it the same way every time with that character.

    • @scottwallbank4794

      I'm hoping the aspects will differ the gameplay for each hero enough. The card pool is shallow at the moment, but hopefully each aspect will start to feel more distinguished as the card pool increases.
      Weve already had a card spoilt (avengers tower) that ties to the avengers trait, which is cool for theme and deck making decisions.

  • @KaijudoMaster11

    Marvel is abut super heroes that also lead regular lives. So the obligation cards are a nod to that. I was reading a Marvel Comic and shit was getting crazy but some guy was worried about his relationship with his girl friend.

    Loving this game so much and based off the previews I’ve seen so far showing such radically different hero play styles I’m definitely in for the long haul. Top game of the year hands down!
    Also, the 3/4 player problem goes away with experienced players. But I’m ONLY playing it that way with veteran players. 2 is the sweet spot still.

      I mentioned it in a comment above but Ms Marvel and She-hulk are getting Disney series, so I imagine FFG has had some instruction on heroes Disney expect to see early. She-hulk is the only one of the five that is particularly surprising in a core set. But yes, the avengers heroes are always going to sell so having them separate is a smart move for FFG.

      @@scottwallbank4794 Agreed... you can't blow your whole staple of super-popular characters right outta the gate with this kind of game, gotta leave some anticipation for things to come. Subtly promoting upcoming Disney+ series that feature well regarded but less well-known characters gives some nice double--duty there.

      @@TheBrokenMeeple Fair enough. I just create four piles and shuffle them together for both the hero and villain decks, I find it the quickest way to make sure it's the most random. That's a problem if you want to keep buying new sets for sure, but it's fine for me because I stopped buying them when I filled up my case :)
