    More leafs in the spring assembly means stiffer ride, less usually means more give unless the leafs are of a higher spring rate. Similar to coil springs just older design

    Friendly bit of advice, when using a grinder, and knowing your wrist has issue's, put the handle that comes with a grinder on.
    That way if it kicks or your hands fails you have a firm grip on the handle which means you can control where it ends up.
    I had a near miss with a nine inch and my man region, needless to say the first time in all my years o used the handle and been happy ever since.

    Good job with having the boys "help out". Before you know it, they will be taking your car off the jacks so they can start working on their own projects.
    I can hardly wait to see how the fenders look moved forward. I could be wrong, but I think removing the leaf from the spring pack will give you a slightly softer and lower ride.

  • @donaldbarrett2267
    @donaldbarrett2267 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lowering that rear suspension will be just the ticket to transform the MG from looking like it is about to go off-roading, to looking like a really angry beast for the track. kudos.

      I was just about to comment this, idk how anyone thought removing a spring wouldn’t hurt handling, especially after a bump in power on a stock drivetrain. With how low the car is that extra suspension travel could mean by-by wide body kit. Aside from this he’s done a great job with the mgb gt.

      Lowering leaf springs don't usually remove a leaf, usually just flip the axle ontop? If it's not low enough build some spaces to lift axle more?

    • @darianistead2239
      @darianistead2239 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@siennabartlett9993 No, they heat them to reset the curve to lower then re temper so the metal regains it's ability as a spring.

  • @380.motorsports
    @380.motorsports 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Individual leafs in a leaf spring pack are meant to slide on each other fore and aft of the center pin as the car shifts up and down with normal driving movement. If you hard clamp the leaves together they won’t move as designed and yes it will ride stiff as you’ve created basically a solid bar and not a spring. The original clamps are used to hold the leaf pack together but allow leaf movement as the axle travels up and down.

  • @justinbeigh75
    @justinbeigh75 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Was just thinking about this- when putting the leaf springs back together I’ve always used marine grease between the leaves. For one it helps the springs as they are compressed to flex with less friction (metal on metal). Two it helps from the springs rusting as bad!!! Sorry for not thinking of this earlier.

Looks good let me tell you how to fix that .if you pull the legs back out and re drill the the center bolt back an inch that will move your rear end back in to that fender flare and should affect anything looks like you'll just have to cut a little more of your Quarter panel but you already cut them obviously for the wide body so no big deal

    What you have also done is soften the spring rate, in My opinion your better option would have been to retain the total amount of springs BUT take the shortest one from the bottom, turn it upside down and place it on the top. this will keep the basic spring rate and straighten the middle of the spring but keep the outer ends curved. this process avoids spring whip where the spring travels over center and back again.

    Use the other side of the grinder when using a cutting wheel. You want the sparks to go towards you. I know that's counterintuitive, but it'll prevent the servo effect from acting on the cutting wheel.

    also yea wrist problems suckkkkkk its all about over use pretty much i am guessing hours of sanding and bodywork don't help. For computer, work make sure u have a good posture and wrist rests, adjustable armrests help. that brace u have is also good but for something that is less intrusive and holds ur hand better try ace wraps, just more adjustable so they give better support they r just spandexy cloth pretty much :)

    First off. If your wearing shoes then your kid should be. Second explain to him what your doing and why and what will happen while your doing it. Saves scaring your Lil man and helps him understand what's happening. I do this with my daughter, she was 2 when I first let her in the garage, and she's been excited helpful and bored out of her mind since haha she's 4 now and she changes my shocks, brake pads, and wheels.she also opperates the Jack while I'm under the car (obviously I break the bolts loose and so the heavy lifting lol also even with stands and tyres laying under the car while a child opperates a Jack, its terrifying Hana) only thing she's scared of is using the rattlegun because it spun around on her lol
