Wow, this came up on my recommendations exactly 10 years to the day, i was living in Rangiora at the time and it was scary there. my girlfriend of 4 weeks (now wife) was in the city, we were talking on the phone at the time of the quake. Her house was trashed so i took her in as a refugee, the rest is history. thanks for posting.
R.I.P to all those lost in the ctv building.the clinic was in there..r.i.p dr hussan and all the rest of the team i still have my last ever perscription he filled 4 me..he is sadly missed along with his colleges the receptionists were soo afraid of that building an it was really shaky when in there.rest easy u all xo
Do you go to Unlimited? My partner's younger brother was there at the time and we had no contact with him so didn't know how any of the kids were. It's comforting to see how well they stayed in control and got out of there so quickly - Thank you!
You could mean the mayor Bob Parker. The building would never have killed a soul during the September 2010 quake. It survived. Bob Parker is the man in charge that has to answer for letting unqualified "inspectors" deem the building ok for continued use until the fatal collapse during February 2011. People should NEVER forget that.
What surprised me more than anything was the people who said they couldn't believe this happened. That is a sad indictment on New Zealands education system, if they were educated like they used to educate kids, they would know that they live on possibly the most dangerous (along with Japan) sliver of land on the planet. They need to read up on tectonic plates, volcanic actions, fault lines etc
Hi there, Sam, my name is Ashley. I am making a video about the Christchurch rebuild after the earthquakes for my TH-cam channel and I was wondering if I could use some of your footage from this video in it? Thanks
As unsettling as it can be I’m also always interested in seeing different views of the day. I walked home from work trying to find my 13 yr old daughter in town. Through the centre and didn’t focus on much of the damage at the time.
If anyone remembers cafe valentinos (don't judge me spelling), and where it was, I couldn't believe seeing two wine glasses, still half full of wine, sitting upright on one of the outdoor tables as if nothing had happened.
Old post I know but so relatable. I'll never forget seeing a guy (manager, maybe) clear the till at Coffee Culture, before jumping in to help with body recovery. He left a pile of blood-stained $20 notes sitting on the ground, one by one fluttering away. In a society that often values money more than life, that was a surreal and unforgettable image
Hi Sam, We would love to be able to use this footage for a show we are making based on Field Hockey. We are making a short piece on the effects of the earthquake on the Christchurch area and want to use this footage to help tell the story.
Extremely Sad! some are smiling, happy to be alive I suppose tho I would think instantly of those that may be hurt. It must have been a frightening experience. I cried when the news broke of this and my thoughts are with them through this terrible time.
Tragic. Very very tragic. Mind you if I had just been in an earthquake unless I had family I was waiting for I would not be milling around like a spare proverbial amongst high rise building and glass superstructure...I would be high tailing out of the CBD.
i was only 4 when it happend. me and my younger brother (he was 1) were at home we were going to go to pre school but luckily we dident. the school collapsed and 1 child died. if me and my brother had gone to school that day we most likely would of died. i still cry every time a truck passes our house and i’m still suffering from ptsd (post traumatic stress disorder)
@@jessiepatterson7647 i was working in a scrap metal yard in Bromley, I watched a massive pylon shake out of the ground, and power lines near break, if they had broke the sonic thrust would by hitting the pile of steel killed everyone in the kilometer radius, that is no joke, because it would have landed on a huge pile of shredded steel arced and just killed anything near that site!!!
I am Kiwi My home, my world my country, I live in NAPIER, largest we have had, I send my thoughts and prayers to all even though years later WE WILL SURVIVE AND WE HAVE :)
@@Jon-pl3hr As with Pike River and many other instances of workplace criminal negligence, we'll never get justice here in NZ. I'd love to know the name of the engineer responsible for giving the tick to a building I pulled a body from (it was repaired following September), but of course, his name was redacted during the investigation post February. Convenient, as you say
It was and still is a problem. These videos are hard to watch but it didn't just happen here in the CDB. It was all over Christchurch and we got hit hard as well. One of the good things is that only a few died. Saying this I knew one of them and are sorry he had to go.
And at this moment, our world changed. At this point, the "powers that be" decided an opportunity exploit the misery and desperation of a city was about to made available. And so, it goes.

Very sad demolition but this earthquake was magnitude 6,3??? Not more? In the 1992 we have a Earthquake from magnitude 5,9. We have very lucky, no damages, no death... Minutes and a city is destroyed 😢

This came up in my recommendations to, still living here but it's still so raw seeing this. Miss the old city so much too
I don’t remember it . I was 1
I miss it too but also enjoy the new central city
Thanks for posting this, its raw footage but gives you a better feel for what it must have been like being there, than most TV coverage does
whenever things like this happen all the people in the city come together and help eachother out if needed.

I was working at outpatients at hospital - I still can't imagine what it must have been like for these people walking out of the city.

I just returned to St Albans primary from Jelly Park then... I remember screaming, crying and panicking... I was so scared... still am.

For those that dont know
185 deaths, 1500-2000 injuries, 164 serious

Hi, I notice that you walked down Barbadoes Street - do you have footage of the Provincial Hotel?
Hi there, Sam, my name is Ashley. I am making a video about the Christchurch rebuild after the earthquakes for my TH-cam channel and I was wondering if I could use some of your footage from this video in it? Thanks
Man this brings back memories, i was walking north on barbadoes st that day, and yes im still here in chch :)
5:35 - "Yes, We Are OPEN"...tragically, your building is now completely open to the sky and to the street.

fact is the ripple through was almost like a jigsaw puzzle, certain buildings suffered no imminent damage, whereas others were completely devastated

Although I appreciate your sentiment, don't many get killed trying to help, because they don't know the correct way to search through unstable debris?
The CTV building when they showed it blew my mind
뉴질랜드는 어느나라인가요?
I believe it's by Australia. Down South.

Very nice piece of video.
really feel the silence of CHC and WGTN from the earthquake.
feels so real.
merci for this video youtuber.
@Venuszenith not happy to survive more survival the only way to cope is to smile.

New Zealand and Turkey need to send their architects to study in Japan.
:/
FEMA (from USA) were in CHCh that morning and flew to Wellington. The whole thing appears to be a crime scene.
My God and I thought 911 was horrible!
oh shit

Why is new zealand not earthquake proof?
Gabriel Spohr parts of New Zealand are but chrichurch had a fault line the we did not no about and today 7years later we are still rebuilding it.
Katelynn Beaven new Zealand is full of fault lines actually and is prone to earthquakes
$$$
Very sad demolition but this earthquake was magnitude 6,3??? Not more?
In the 1992 we have a Earthquake from magnitude 5,9.
We have very lucky, no damages, no death...
Minutes and a city is destroyed 😢
How does one earthquake proof a country?
guy at 2:42 blowing his nose
