To our regular viewers the French series has plenty more to come but I am sharing this video now as it's really hot and it may help someone. Next episode from France is on Wednesday all being well 👍

Tip 6 is the one most people don’t know about. Try it and prepare to be amazed. PLEASE SHARE VIDEO LINK AS WIDELY AS POSSIBLE ON FORUMS ETC. 👍
I’m originally from Yorkshire but have lived in Australia for over 35 years. When the temperature reaches 40°C, here in Australia, we take the 40°C as a trigger as four beers per hour. In the UK, that should be eight beers per hour.
Since we made that video we have started using emergency foil blankets on the outside of the van to keep out the sun. They are even cheaper! They are in our Amazon storefront (link in video description) 🙂
Hi, When it’s really hot in Australia, and we last summer went for weeks over 40 degrees in WA, keep blinds closed from early morning till evening, dont have your windows open as it lets the heat in. Use fans if you have them, or air conditioner if lucky enough to have one. And drink lots of water to keep hydrated. This is for people living in homes. I feel for you guys not used to having this heat. I’ve been told by a close friend in Lancashire who has experienced our heat, that it’s very humid there. That makes the heat worst. Those cool beads remind me of how we also use wet towels around our neck. Loving your vlogs 🙋♀️
Tip number 11: Reduce your metabolic rate (which produces body heat) by curling up to watch calming videos of lovely cool seaside shots by “Life Is Too Short”!! 😀. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for the tips, I had been wondering how you were coping in these extreme temperatures but then I noticed from your last release that it was dated May, so you were probably luckily back in the UK. May I suggest that an idea for a video piece that you maybe give us an idea of the day to day or weekly cost of traveling around to include Diesel, LPG, and daily excursions etc. It would be a great help for me as I hope to do something similar when I retire in a few years. Thank you, Greg ( Ireland)
Hi Greg thanks for watching. Carol does give a summary of costs as we go through this trip, they tend to be at the end of each week. It’s a good suggestion for a video though so I will try and do a summary report for the whole trip 👍
Thanks so much for the tips. The reflectix idea is really going to be great. I've not been able to watch you for quite some time as I have now purchased my home on wheels and have been building it out. Blessing, Teri Hope
Great tips really just common sence. Summer of 1959 was best went on forever, but council still tared the roads lots of cars coverd in melting tar (thats when they did resurface roads regulary). Next Cobra will be dealing with the Storms that follow, then obviously how to deal with 1 inch of Snow as winter approaches Dont know how we managed without Cobra !
Cobra meetings - window dressing to stop people complaining. Common sense doesn’t seem that abundant these days but then again I can be a grumpy old git 😁👍
Excellent tips. Remember not to leave pets or children in an unattended hot car. Unless guidelines to keep said vehicles cool are used, the internal ADDITIVE heat can send the interrior of the car into deadly heat values. Sun heat that is trapped in a car, can't get out as more gets in, and the effect adds heat upon heat, making it easily deadly. Safe travels, friends! Great idea there to place the reflectix on the exterior with magnets etc. First time I've seen it mentioned. And, it's easier to do it that way ono the exterior than in a crowded vehicle full of gear.
Great tips Ken. I’ve got all my blinds down in the house, fan on and looked for my shorts in the bowels of my clothing cupboard! Yes, this is Scotland today....29 degrees where I am! I did venture out in the garden a couple of times and it was lovely! Stay safe everyone.
Great tips! The positioning of the van and the movement of the sun is something I always think of and it's essential to keep it cool. I have also experienced a big difference if the reflective is put on the outside of the windscreen. But sometimes it's not an option due to the stealth factor.
Brilliant idea to reflect from the outside! Never thought of that one as I suppose I always thought the inner shades did the job….thank you as always for sharing your knowledge with us! This type of information may very well save a life! ☺️
Did an experiment with kitchen foil yesterday. Sprayed water on the glass and it stuck to it really well. Lasted a few hours in direct heat before falling off but it worked the same. I was thinking if there was a durable thin reflective film I could save some storage space. 😁👍
Very useful tips. I don't have a van, but at home I close my blinds and use my darkening curtains for the whole day and evening, as we still have strong sun around 6 and 7 pm and I use my mobile Air Con. Luckily I have Air Con at work too. Let's hope we all get through this heatwave. Have a nice Sunday 👋
Thanks for these great tips! The reflecting screen tip is brilliant! Hope you stay cool and safe - it’s sizzling here in Wyoming as well, 100F today, 105 tomorrow. Ugh. Take care.
Great tips even for those in a travel trailer with A /C. The more people you have in a travel Trailer or van raises temps. I use the neck cooling towels when I hike & camping. Great idea to cover windows.
Good tips there, very helpful. I'm going to invest in a couple of those fans. Even in my sizeable motorhome air movement at times is not great and those would certainly help. Thank you!
I love the Reflexus on the outside of the windows. Great tip! Here are some of mine: A damp towel kept in the refrigerator is great to wipe down with or roll up and put on your neck. A wet T-shirt is great for evaporative cooling. Don't use really cold water, though, or you'll feel like you're having a heart attack. Go swimming. :) Jon in rural BC, Canada
Excellent tips 👍. The biggest help I've found - but isn't always practical - get into a parkup under forest canopy, especially if it's on an elevation. The forest interior can be around 10-20 degrees cooler than direct sun. It's a real phenomena called forest cooling, related to heat absorption in leaves and cool night air retention in the forest floor.

Good tips that covers being away and at home. In this unprecedented heat we have had to come back a day early from the International Air Tattoo as the temperature is due to hit 40 degrees . Kept the dogs cool by put wet towels on the and spritzing then as they dry out. Is not easy in a very basic temporary camping field. 🥵

Thanks for that you two. I went with my cousin to Walton on the Naze yesterday, first proper trip out. Only for the day though. Thank you. Did you know you can buy mini airconditioners for about £35 which are really effective and work off usb. They really work!

Hello Ken / Carol Good tips looks like you are getting the heat we had last summer , our summer has not started this year quite a lot of rain and wind. . Take care .
you might be able to get the Australian cooling ties in a pet store in the UK. We have similar for our dog. First aid cool packs that you store in the freezer or fridge might also work. Congratulations with your new van! Ever considered a vacuum tube solar cooker? quite popular by other vanlifers. I bought one today myself, so I cannot yet tell from my own experience if it is great or not.
It's warmer outside than inside where I am. I'm in NW England and I'm currently sat inside my bungalow with a cardigan on. Yesterday evening, I even had the central heating on! Well if the temperature goes up as they predict tomorrow and Tuesday, then I'll be able to taken my cardigan off indoors 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Next we'll be having flood warnings when the summer storms arrive .
@@LifeistooshortCK The bungalow is very well insulated and very cosy in winter (I only require a 4 tog duvet all throughout winter), but does stay quite cool for a long time in the summer. If I open the windows when it's hot outside, that brings the heat in. I've purposely not done that though over the past few days, so as to hopefully keep the place cool inside for when the high temperatures hit us from tomorrow.

Very good tips Ken. We are not getting it as bad as the UK. Expecting it may get to 30° and then back down again. It has been in the 20's all week.
Pleasant is what we are all looking for. Nice enough to sit out but no more 😁👍
Really useful, thanks 😊
Excellent tips 🥵 Trev
Hope you are both well and enjoying life 👍
Tip 11 come to Finland, it's +14c here now…👍🙂
Sounds perfect 👍
It's warmer outside than inside where I am. I'm in NW England and I'm currently sat inside my bungalow with a cardigan on. Yesterday evening, I even had the central heating on! Well if the temperature goes up as they predict tomorrow and Tuesday, then I'll be able to taken my cardigan off indoors 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Next we'll be having flood warnings when the summer storms arrive .
Sounds like you could put some black screens in the windows to pull more heat in 😁👍
@@LifeistooshortCK The bungalow is very well insulated and very cosy in winter (I only require a 4 tog duvet all throughout winter), but does stay quite cool for a long time in the summer. If I open the windows when it's hot outside, that brings the heat in. I've purposely not done that though over the past few days, so as to hopefully keep the place cool inside for when the high temperatures hit us from tomorrow.
Drink lots of hot tea is a good tip
🙂👍

With temperatures set to reach 32C here in the UK today (in SEPTEMBER !), I will be putting many of these sensible suggestions to very good use 🥵
With the crazy recent weather, it will probably be snowing here in a couple of months - so I was wondering whether you had made a similar 'Ten Tips...' episode on keeping warm ? ATB
No 10 tips on keeping warm yet 😁👍

I wonder if the silvery window tint is any better than the black tint
I think it would be better but I don’t know anybody who has got it. The black tint does look better 🙂
