Redundant observations are a standard practice in surveying along with direct and reverse measurements. Does the term compounding error mean anything here? Elementary Surveying by Charles Ghilani and Paul Wolf would be a great place to start. Adjustment Computations: Spatial Data Analysis by Ghilani will blow your mind.

I saw no traverse. You'd have to use measure rounds to do that, not measure points.

These are students at RMIT, the video is a reference for their own fellow students and not to compete with everyone like you as an assistant surveyor in the field. Their way of doing it is the basic way of distance measurements, of course the professor will get them to "measure rounds" once they're familiar with the operational of the gear.

This is incorrect. You can still manually calculate the traverse just using the angles and distances or run the JXL file through most surveying software to calculate it that way. Measure rounds is only needed if you want access to calculate and adjust your traverse for you.

Nice Works, but can you show us how the scanning Works on a flat area, ground. I have some problem With that.It seams to be a lots of point near the station and a few far the station at 50 meters.

why did you use measure topo for foresight instead of measure rounds?

I'm in shock, where is the proper traverse measurements on this movie???? Do not give that crap on the net if you do not know how to complete proper surveys.
After complete station setup you should use Measure Rounds option, otherwise you get coordinates useful for building a sand castle only. Thx

use the knobs to rotate instrument, never move it by other means, you can mess up the motor in the instrument.

This proves a 3rd grader is capable of operating the equipment. If your traversing you would measure direct and reverse multiple times before moving forward.. And Aaron you must have never used a Trimble MagDrive, you can turn instrument not using knobs, there is no friction except the MagDrive. If you have used one you would know that you will turn it with your hand..
