It seems like a common trend with Stun players. They're just the most miserable people on earth and try to make everyone else miserable by playing Stun.
@AmusedDragonflies-it8nu I think it's a common tier 0 format issue. When every single game is losing to poplar and black witch people either play dumb stuff like this, or quit. Same thing happened during tear

@@CS0723 I wouldn't necessarily call it a dumb strategy. Just a different tempo and with an out strategy that isn't the easiest to identify. A decent amount of technical play goes into Umi control.
@keevs2933 I more meant that it's dumb to play any deck other than the tier 0 deck in a tier 0 format, because you'll just autolose a lot of games, not calling umi itself dumb. I think it's actually kinda cool. I own a Phantasm spiral deck if that gets me half points

Sea stealth 2 was the issue. The moment battle phase starts, they just get a free body from deck, including the Kraken and sea stealth attack can just bounce the Jellyfish protect the back row anyway. My friend runs this deck and it's very annoying. If you dont have instant answers for the back row you just lose.
Sea Stealth 2 only summons from hand or grave. Not deck
@@mattrnash39 True. But it doesn't matter because the moment you kill one and don't out the sea stealth 2, they get whatever right back from grave the next turn. Especially since the Kairyu shin just searches your deck.
high rated umi, you love to see it
I really like Umi (Kairyu-shin’s floodgate is objectively unfun but I like the deck outside of that) but man was this duelist toxic for no reason. Yugioh’s omnipotence of knowing the Attribute of the monster you’re going to summon under Kairyu-shin isnt intuitive; you as an Umi player should be ready to explain it in a nice way because I guarantee you too were flabbergasted about it the day you discovered it too.

in game 1 the umi player was able to use the jelly in dmg step because it changes atk stats. thats also why you can use forbidden chalice in dmg step

@@TheDBGrinder damn always had it in my head that you could activate effects that change stats in any of the dmg step substeps. but its only until before damage calc
I might be wrong, but I think it's more because Jellyfish's attack change is an optional "then, you can", instead of something that happens simultaneously with the negation like chalice/droplet/lost wind. It's the same reason you can't use Guardian of the Golden Land before damage calc even though it changes attack because it's an optional thing that's separate from the special summon.
@@viaprime187 you are correct about effects that change stats being able to activate in damage step. But notice your example "Forbidden Chalice" (as welll as the rest of the "Forbidden" quick play spell archetype), the "primary effect" is stat modification, then the negation etc is the secondary part. Just like @firstuslastus6186 said above, the part that makes the stat change not be a guaranteed effect makes it unable to activate.
Another good example is the Eldlich trap monster none played that made the ATK of a monster 0, it couldn't activate in dmg step because it wasn't guaranteed Eldlich would be on the field to allow it resolve the stat change effect.
If jelly was (similar wording to Apollousa despite not negating activation) it would be perfectly legal to activate in damage step........ BUT STILL WOULDN'T negate Poplar because we are after DAMAGE CALCULATION and stat modification effects may activate only "before damage calculation" unless specifically written on the card (like Avramax)

You should definitely try and get some more high rated Umi duels! Wonder if this was a one off or if he has something really cooking
It's pretty good when ppl dont stop umi, because unless they have solemn a normal summon kairyu shin just ends their board
This is my favorite deck. Been playing Umi Control for awhile now. Splashing it with a Horus engine is very nice.

I like the fact, that you can play a deck like Umi-Control competitive but theres no reason to be so toxic. The other player probably didn´t even know the Umi cards very well and he isn´t even giving him time or explanations. Imagine you are new to yugioh and just want to have some fun or trying new things and than meet such an toxic person. these people should not get a stage at all
if you wanna compare a monster effect that negates effects that cant negate in dmg you could compare it to the spright negates (carrot and red), they negate the same way and cant negate in dmg.

Since it modifies atk/def, you could activate in dmg step. Maybe that's what he means

I swear I have only ever seen Umi in low-rated Master Duel games. I still don't get how out of all the stun decks for the meta, you land on Umi when Floo and Runick literally exist.

Yooo the heads up play is to use the extrav to draw 1 card instead. They definitely won’t negate that so you get some value out of it before you dark ruler.
if you try to only draw 1 then they KNOW you are hoping it doenst get stopped , too easy of a read tbh

I understand that being high rated doesn’t mean being a good duelist, but man it seems like these people see cards they’ve never seen before and just don’t bother even attempting to read, let alone retain the information for the duration of the match, like how??

The one thing snake eyes is really bad against are floodgates. Rivalry prevents them from ending on anything real. Tcboo also devastating but can be played around thanks to Phoenix. Umi control is lame as fuck though.

Sea stealth 2 made it so jellyfish and kairyushin couldn’t be targeted by most monster effects, making the entire amblowhale line useless. Considering that if they don’t kill him this turn kairyushin is back online, it sucks but makes sense why he scooped.

@@9thR8Duelist his hand is 2 polar and then veiler and a imperm. It doesn't make sense to take away the poplar and imperm and veiler do the same thing so it doesn't matter. Only thing that would matter is if they take away imperm meaning you can't use it on your turn to turn off the floodgate. But thats exactly why you should use veiler instead of imperm cuz u don't have a way to play through the floodgate.
@@markogamingtv7030 that plays into the floodgate, though. Veiler is only live on your opponents turn, so the only way to negate the floodgate is to imperm it. If you veiler, they can ttt rip the imperm. The cards in your hand now can’t interact with kairyushin. The play would’ve been to just let everything resolve.
I say this because I’ve played the deck for more than a year now. I know it’s in’s and out’s relatively well. I can tell you with certainty that imperm is always the answer to this deck. They either allow it and the flood is turned off or they banish it with SSA, and it’s still off field.
