I own a Tissot Le Locle and I chose it over the Visodate because it definetely looks more elegant. I also love the quality especially the detail on the dial. I really recommend this watch and Tissot as a brand.
Teddy, make a video about watches that don't "look expensive", but refined, like an understatement under the radar, so that only people who are into watches would appreciate it?
Seiko SNZJ17 comes to mind; it looks like a Rolex Submariner to people to don't know watches but anyone who is into watches will appreciate it for what it is: an affordable, quality automatic watch
I used Tissot for several years and I still admire the look and quality. I think Tissot is a good option if you’re looking for high quality watch at a fair price.
Definitely the SNXS79K. Unboxed, reviewed, featured and modded - this is the star of my collection when it comes to watches that look more expensive than they actually are. That mod looks the business 😍 cheers 🥂
Yes, check it out: it's on my channel - I can't post a link as most times, they end up in TH-cam spam comments ;) you can alternatively search for "snxs79k mod" in TH-cam. Cheers!
I'm happy to say I just bought the Le Locle! Not so happy about the price, had to pay 892 dollars for it here in Brazil, but given the transport fees and taxes, it wasn't too bad. Still, I absolutely love this watch, will pair up nicely with the suits I wear daily. Thank you very much for the tips Teddy, you were fundamental in this first watch purchase.
Great video! The Tissot has great horological history, and, thanks to smart and careful marketing, has real prestige, and definitely gives the impression that it is quite expensive. It really does look more pricey than it is... It’s a great pic for this video. Thank you for a great video!
Great video. Excellent choice of watches. I didn't know Brew brand before. However, it's a pity they are not automatic in this price range.. And I'm glad you have mentioned Tissot Le Locle. I am looking for a dress watch now and it is the best option I have found so far (the one with white dial, on the black strap)
Bought the tissot le locle with a black leather strap a few months back. The build quality is amazing, feels very good, and looks beautiful. It's hard to do better than a le locle at that price point.
I loved the Tissot in photos and decided to visit the Tissot AD to purchase. But I noticed that the numerals were embossed and not in an agreeable way. It does look nice from a distance, but it's not something I could live with looking at everyday for me. The case back is definite winner though, and I wish more companies would take that approach to the case back design.
The Brew and TIssot were beautiful, something never seen or heard much about (Brew). Orient has some great products for the price and quality, needed a dress watch, so got myself an orient bambino anthracite. A bit cheaper than many mentioned, but if I was to do it again, and new about it as well as review here, would have ordered one of the Brews.
I own both the seagull and the Tissot le locle (with the black dial) and I can honestly say they're both brilliant watches. Le locle especially gets alot more compliments than even my more expensive watches because it looks alot more impressive than its price would let on.
I knew you were gonna say Seagull 1963! Glad to see the LeLocle ! I bought a LeLocle 6 years ago after I fell in love with its guilloche and the LeLocle font and the stunning caseback
I have the Tissot Le Locle. It’s a really well finished watch and looks great either on leather or a dark NATO. It also has the same movement as my Chr Ward Trident Pro, which cost over twice as much.
Just bought a Brew Retrograph Copper. Didn’t think I’d go for this design but something drew me to it so I hope I like it on my wrist as well when I get it. I also hope that if I hold onto it for a long time it will be worth a little something in the future.
I had a Tissot LeLocle for almost 2years and I eventually sold it because it was to big for my wrist. Yet for the price range I think it's the best Swiss dress watch at that price point. I hope the person I sold it to is happy with it.
Funny I came across this video, I was just eyeing that Tissot Le locle that is pictured, there is also a blue Tissot Powermatic 80 that looks similar to those Seikos in the beginning (very reminiscent of an Omega Aqua Terra or Rolex Perpetual) and around 500-800. Maybe I'm too big of a fan of Tissot but they fill a nice niche between high horology and cheaper Seiko, Citizen, Orient watches.
Dude i could watch these videos for hours. Primarily cuz I have. I love the combination of aesthics, cost, and craftsmanship you touch on, and was curious as to if theres a way to find them. Ive been gettin into watches recently and your vids have helped me a helluva lot, so i was wondering if you had any advice/could make a vid on how to watch shop at estate sales, flea markets, antique shops?? Keep up the awesome vids!
The Seiko SNK789 I bought a couple of days ago is all thanks to you. Such an amazing watch, I'm in love with it. The red second hand is something that you don't see a lot and gives it a ton of personality. In pictures the watch doesn't look "expensive", maybe it's because the shape of the case, not as round as the SNXS79, but let me tell you that in person the SNK789 gains so much. There's something very interesting about it that makes it stand out among all the Seiko 5 line. Definitely worth a mention in this type of videos. Great video!
hey teddy, great review. However, I do have a different opinion on the seagull. The creme dial and the printed fonts do in fact make it look less expensive. not discounting how great the watch it but plainly stating how it looks cheap.
You make great videos Teddy. All the information on some great watches that won't break the bank. I collect watches that won't max out my credit card and just happen to be watches I like owning.
Absolutely love my SNXS79. The dial is glorious, constantly shimmering in the light, the loom pops -always gives me a little thrill when I catch it glimmering back at me. Do yourself a favour...get one. (Change the bracelet though, it's a clanger)
Something you forgot to mention.. that Seagull has a decorated Swiss clone (valjoux I believe?) column wheel chronograph movement, which is unbelievable at $300! They also make a moonphase chronograph built on the same movement! You can get it at Long Island watch if you’re interested and don’t mind a little bit of communist propaganda (historical of course).
Gorgeous watch. I don't think it's a clone though. From what I have read under mandate of the Chinese government Tianjin watch company bought the movement in the Seagull 1963 and the equipment to make it off a swiss watch company Venus. It was their caliber 175 if I am not mistaken.
As always, very good video. I was pleased to see the Richard LeGrand mentioned in this list. I got the blue no date version before Christmas, and have a hard time taking it off my wrist. It's a beautiful watch with terrific specs. It's my official dress diver.
Teddy another great video.....👏👏 By the way I want to know about Guanqin watch brand, not much is it good or bad & it's worthy to buy or not like that.
Another point of interest when it comes to the Seagull 1963, is that the movement is a column wheel chronograph movement. A really great value for $250-$400 bucks. Great video.
I've owned two Certina DS1. If you catch Ashford on a special, you can get both the powermatic or the ddtandard ETA 2824 for under 400. Great pedigree if you know a little bit about the Himalayas and the DS concept
I'd fancy the Tissot LeLocle! Looks classy and #cmiiw the LeLocle line beat FP Journe and won the Concours International de Chronometrie competition in 2012
First, I love this channel. Keep up the good work. Having said that, I’m tired of all the Seiko love. TH-cam is over saturated with Seiko content. Finally, the Seagull 1963 you showed for $300ish is the “official” version. It has an acrylic crystal and a solid case back. The knockoff version is better at $167 and has a sea through case back with sapphire crystals front and back. You want to see that amazing movement.
Hey Teddy, how come you never include a Bulova watch on your videos? Is Bulova not good enough? I'm considering buying the 96a199 or the 96a118 do you recommend any of these watches ?
I feel like I'm rambling endlessly with this, but I definitely believe they're worth a shout out. If you like that Seagull Chronograph movement but would like something more sharp looking than the 1963, go for the EMG DL63 Chronograph: 350$ USD, stunning panda (or reverse panda if you prefer) dial and see through case back. I got mine's for Xmas and I'm just loving it!
I bought the Tissot Le Locle with dark dial. It looks different depending on the type of light. Also keeps time very well. Downsides, it's a bit clunky… and the Powermatic 80 has a 3 Hz rate, so not as smooth swiping as it's predecessor. I do like the old fashioned lettering. I found it when I was looking for something like the Omega De Ville.
That LeGrande is an amazing looking watch and absolutely ticks off the value boxes like crazy. The Orient divers are just such high value and are a better speced watch than the SKX. I have mine on a Super endlink bracelet, it jumps the expensive feel and look to an ever greater level. All the watches you mentioned are excellent. Great job
Homages look more expensive than what they are, for example parnis homages. It's obvious because they are based on an expensive model but is a reallity that they look quite expensive
@@TeddyBaldassarre You're right, they look expensive but some homages like parnis are almost a copy! I bought a Batman GMT and I think it's a good watch, at least better than a replica
Love the videos. Came here to hear your take on the Brew. I love it but am somewhat worried about the brand name sounding tacky. Maybe that's shallow. I know it's nothing too fancy, but aesthetically I think it's one of the best be looking watches at any price point. Oh, and I'm down in Akron so not too far!
Alpina smartwatch, looks like a proper wrist watch, rocking the alpina name that commands a bit of a appreciation. Due to ... a lack of respect for it. Most discounters are selling them for around $300 usd.
Great video , I'm quite warming to seiko watches , especially the blue ones , but I also like the tissot watch too , if you did'nt have much money but you wanted to get a collectable watch to keep , what would it be ? & why ? .
I own the SNXS79 model. Before I purchased it, I was looking for over a month in search of what is the best looking Seiko 5 that I could get. I was considering SNKL23 and SNKL41 until I stumbled across this SNXS model that someone was recommending in his video. Got my mind set and purchased. In my opinion it is the best looking Seiko 5 and it looks like over 10 times the price
How about Casio Edifice, especially eqb-1000? And.... Victorinox maybe? Ferragamo? Daniel Steiger? Kronaby? Thomas Earnshaw? Vincero? Frederique Constant (some cheap watches from them)? Daniel Wellington? Claude Bernard? Rudiger? Pierre Petit? S. Coifman? Fossil? Lucien Piccard? Louis XVI? Brigada? I also like Caravelle New York. Maybe also cheaper models of Mido, Longines, Burberry.
Hey Teddy! How about making a video on the Orient "Sun and Moon Open Heart"? I'm considering to get this watch but I wanna know more about this watch first. It doesn't seem to be a popular watch amongst watch reviewers on TH-cam as this watch does not get many mentions on TH-cam. Cheers! Best regards, A fellow subscriber
Have you ever mentioned the Gigandet brand? Apart from the homages they make (Rolex and Zenith are some examples) there are also some beautiful watches they make, like the Supergraph (bi-compax chronograph, Miyota quartz movement and a quintessentially vintage racing look) which in my opinion, for around $200, looks way more expensive than it actually is
I can't find any video, or any other reviews on the Ray Winton watches. I purchased a WI0606 and it seems to be pretty quality made with sapphire crystal and an automatic movement. They also look pretty decent as well. Have you come across them before?
Can you also make "Expensive watch that looks affordable" :D
Ibrahim Gema for me it's Richard Mille, I know they cost gazillions but they always look like a toy to me.
ahaha, can't remember exactly, but I've seen those)) would be fun.
Some Panerai watches look like $500 to $1000, and all the Richard Mille with no carbon fiber.
Nomos😂 they go for like 2k but they generally dont look like it because the dials and hands are so simply
okkkkkkkk:)
My favorites in this video were:
- Seiko SNLK43
- Richard Le Grand
- Brew
I own a Tissot Le Locle and I chose it over the Visodate because it definetely looks more elegant. I also love the quality especially the detail on the dial. I really recommend this watch and Tissot as a brand.

The Tissot LeLocle is a really polished piece and the Powermatic 80 movement is superb. 80 hours power reserve without a crazy price tag.
When you can't afford the 'cheap' watches.
We the 96 percent
hey man, look up for Lorus watches, you will surely be able to afford them and they're beautiful and well made :>
Maybe "affordable" means that we can afford them. Even if some savings are required.
I bought a seiko 5 around 9 years ago, I been using it non stop and it still looks new, and people praise it everywhere I go.
Definitely the SNXS79K. Unboxed, reviewed, featured and modded - this is the star of my collection when it comes to watches that look more expensive than they actually are. That mod looks the business 😍 cheers 🥂

Just by the markers, it really reminds me of the SLA017
If only the day-date window had a black background (stock)
The Slender Wrist
Have a simular SNK and they look better in real life on a new strap, very understated.

I think he doesn't do this because if he put the watch models in the description the people will directly go to see the models and not the video.

That Le Locle, man, it's absolutely perfect. Now I'm not sure if I'll go for that or the Seiko Sarx045
I agree it's my favourite Tissot model.
When I hear "affordable watch" I think about watches from the local Walmart that cost $10.

I can't believe it took you so long to mention the Tissot. It's been one of my favorites for a long time now.
Yes. The Tissot with roman numerals and guilloche dial was my favourite watch until i found a quartz equivalent that sells for $10. China brand SKMEI.
He NEVER mentions citizen or casio of ANY variety.
The Brew Retrograph is what you would call a 'poor man Tag Heuer Monaco' .
"Poor"
Great selection of solid watches, Teddy! Happy to see the mention of the Retrograph watch alongside some true classics. Keep up the amazing work.

Have you ever mentioned the Gigandet brand? Apart from the homages they make (Rolex and Zenith are some examples) there are also some beautiful watches they make, like the Supergraph (bi-compax chronograph, Miyota quartz movement and a quintessentially vintage racing look) which in my opinion, for around $200, looks way more expensive than it actually is
That Seiko snkl41 is stunning! I love white dial watches and this one is not the exception. Did Seiko sold them in america?
I can't find any video, or any other reviews on the Ray Winton watches. I purchased a WI0606 and it seems to be pretty quality made with sapphire crystal and an automatic movement. They also look pretty decent as well. Have you come across them before?
