A walk in the city is more than the pavement and the buildings; it's the sounds, smells, friends, and friends we haven't yet met, the tastes, the experiences. This walk had everything. Now I want Suleman's dumplings!
Another splendid walk John. I did the Regents Canal in the other direction from Camden Town to Victoria Park at which point my legs gave out so had to stop for a spot of tea and cake in the park cafe. Lovely to see the City Basin too. My grandson's best mate was in the Islington Sea Scouts and they'd do training at the City Basin. They were practicing rolling and righting their canoes. Levi rolled the thing 180 degrees. He's there underwater trying to summon the energy for the full 360 degree roll when he noticed, standing on its tail in the water and looking at him, a big eel! That encouraged him to complete his manoeuvre ultra sharpish. I like to think that eel escaped from the Pie and Mash shop down Chapel Market and lived happily ever after just waiting for Levi to visit.
That was lovely. I loved seeing Eden and Andrew’s art, and as an occasional wheelchair user it was nice to see proof of how accessible the paths along the canal are.
Hackney has changed so much since I worked there in the mid 1980's. These posts are like taking an interesting walk with friends. Thanks for inviting us to join you again John

Such a fun walk through a lively and busy neighbourhood. The gallery and artwork is just wonderful. I love the interaction with it so much. I wish I lived closer and could experience it myself. And as always - thanks for taking us along!
I think I will visit the gallery on Friday and finish of the day at Cody Dock beer and bats evening. I started riding the Regents Canal in 2002. I really loved it but its almost impossible to cycle in summer now due to congestion. I'm happy its being used though. Often my rides take me down a centralised narrow point to point route and I am completely obvious to the micro towns of London that saddle these areas. Thanks to you and your videos, I now deviate off my standard routes and explore these areas with much more depth.
Me and my girlfriend do this route regularly. Walk through vicky Park on to the canal then follow it up to Angel. My favourite walk. We often stop in the dove of course. I didn't have a clue about the Hitchcock connection so I'll check that out next time. Thanks for another brilliant and I'm formative vid John! 🍻

Thank you for that lovely and very interesting walk. I loved the swan peddle boats on the canal, the history along the way I always find interesting. Lovely to meet Ian and Eden too, the art gallery was inspiring. The changes around Hackney and indeed along the Regent canal was very new to me. I loved the Islington tunnel at the end, had some fun times around there a a young kid back in the day....so many memories. Thank you 💕🇦🇺

Great walk John. It is all very different from when I worked at Hackney Hospital in 1983. Lovely to see my old mate Andrew and Eden and I was also intrigued by the VR experience and loved the floating heads!

I've just completed the first draft of a book on Crouch End, John, and your many and various walks have really affected and influenced the way that I make sense of the area and it's history and development. Thanks a million. You make walking fun (to slightly misquote Fleetwood Mac)
Yourself, Andrew and Eden kotting 😀it doesn't get better than this! First I was influenced by "London nobody knows" especially the footage showing hanbury street.then I saw gallivant and it sealed by interest completely wonderful stuff thank you 😄
Great video and for me rather humbling. Back in the early 1980s I bought my first house near Stratford station and commuted to the City daily. Having thereafter been overseas for over 35 years the transformation of the area is astounding. The humbling part? Never for one second having any understanding then that Stratford and the area would ever be anything very much more than an economic backwater. For how long had the East End and beyond been the bargain basement of the city and yet in twenty years totally transformed and full of vitality and the Arts? Where did the seeds come from for the change - the reworking of the docks?
I went to docklands when it was still the old docks , and only an idea in a few people's heads . That was probably around 72 or thereabouts . Literally there was nothing there , only the leftovers from a bygone age . I too can't believe that the dream did come true in the end . It's a shame the changes didn't extend as far as North Woolwich . Still I suppose there had to be a cut-off point somewhere . At least South of the river Woolwich , now has a direct connection with the New Docklands . Perhaps John could take a trip down the Thames someday , something I always promised myself to do . But of course for some unknown reason never did . Although he does love his walks , so perhaps that wouldn't work ....
I lived in Stratford from late 1980's, before the big changes. There had been ambitions for "Stratford City" to be built on the Railway lands and surrounding area, but not the investment. I think the Olympics bid unleashed a torrent of money from various sources, and the opportunity for Compulsory Purchase Orders to clear swathes of land of all occupants, whether business or residential. This gave a clear plain of acres of land ready for complete transformation. I was rehoused along with many others and I have rarely been back. Totally unrecognisable, for better or worse. I'll save my personal prejudice against the high density housing and limited affordability for another arena.
I totally agree with you Guido . It was one of the best walks . And yet strangely , just under half an hour long . Although it seemed to cover so much ground . No pun intended .... honestly !!!

The gentrification has left somewhat of a post-exodus feel with people looking a bit bemused that so many of the previous locals have left. Eden and Andrew made this walk extra special and I hope they will join you for other trips around London. Cheers mate - all the best.
The artwork is quite whimsical and fun, with just the slightest touch of horror to keep it interesting. Seeing the variations of a theme actually imparts a level of comfort and humour that a single piece might not. All the reason to buy more than one piece! Especially enjoyable are the unintentional criss-crosses with the work of other vloggers (eg: "The Narrowboat that James Built," "Joolz Guides," and "Cannice Bannon"), yet despite the common ground, results in a video that is completely fresh and enjoyable to watch. Documenting the gentrification that is happening in many urban neighbourhoods has a universal appeal. Hopefully, some of the old businesses and activities continue in some locations. That could be the subject of a walk: noting the hold-outs that have either re-invented themselves, or have somehow fit the demands of a changing urban environment.
Congratulations !!! If I only had your ability to use the English language in such an expressive manner , I would be justifiably proud of myself . And I ain't joking !!! If you can find my own feeble effort left earlier , all I could come up with was Glorious .... But I now wish I had tried to follow your example , and try to add a bit of texture to my comment . Still , I think yours sums up everything very well . And no doubt , will put a skip in John's step , the next time he hits the road again . It is a great channel , and both yourself , I and all the others who are subscribed , are so lucky to have found John to take us along with him on his journey through London , the neighbouring counties , and beyond . . . .

that's a good question James - I'm not sure I've played any of the actual compositions used in London but I've used Bach Cello Suite No. 1, G Major, Prelude since the video where I did one of the walks from Keiller's film as he uses Beethoven and Bach in the film (at least from memory) but I'm restricted to what's in the TH-cam audio library and Epidemic Sounds library. Hope this helps

Great walk John. Canal walks are ace, the nearest to us is the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal at Harpers Ferry which we plan to walk in a few weeks.
