Very Nice. I think the new colors/size being offered by Rolex are a departure from tradition but they will be liked by a good many buyers. The Red Rolex used is perfect. That dial configuration has been around forever and a day. I owned a 1950’s OP with Double Arrow Bars at the quarter dial position. The dial config, Smooth bezel, time only are classic Rolex. The new larger size and these non traditional dial colors bring Rolex into the modern era and more in step with today’s watch buyers. It’s a well executed blending of Traditional and Modern. The chatter I’ve heard on the Rolex forums the Red colorway OP’s and DJ’s are very popular. Congratulations on this excellent pickup.

It means “Big Egg” in reference to the massive case and domed crystal which gave it a pronounced egg shape. In North America we refer to these as “Big Bubblebacks” because of the bubble case-backs and 36mm diameter. The Ref. #’s are 6098, 6298, 6150 and 6250. There are also additional reference that came out in the later 1950’s that would be appropriate to compare but the original four Ovettone OP’s are the start of the modern OP lineage and developed into the watch you hold in your hand today. People sometimes dismiss the significance and the history of the “lowly” Oyster Perpetuals. They think of it as a plain Jane, entry level Rolex that is often eclipsed by the fancier dress models and of course the Sport lines. Those early Big Bubblebacks did give rise to the very first Explorer in late 1953. So the modern Explorers can also trace its DNA directly back to those early OP’s. For that reason Rolex collectors also refer to those four Refs I mentioned as “Pre Explorers”. I am working on a video that will discuss and debunk many of the common misconceptions of the Explorer surrounding the 1953 Everest summiting as well show the evolution from the early Overttone “Pre-Explorers” OP’s all the way to the current modern 39mm Explorer. I will also address the Smiths vs Rolex, “first on top of Everest”, controversy that has been ongoing since 1953. That will really stir up the Hornet’s nest, believe me. Been super busy so it’s been delayed. I think your watch reviews are well done and produced. I like your responsible, pragmatic and financially-sound slant to watch collecting. You can learn history from a book or by analyzing available data and through direct experienced gathered overtime. But having foresight and a level headed approach is somewhat rare in this emotional/passion driven Hobby. Every watch enthusiast has his or her own journey and story to tell. Some roads are bumpier than others. Mine’s been an extremely bumpy ride on the road of Hard Knocks lol.

36 was always a mans watch , remember in the 50s 60s 70s a 32 size was regular for men and there were big men then , so never listen to the fools who say it was a girls watch
Congrats on the watch. These vibrant colors work well in sunny areas...I am not sure how this works in the Northeast Chicago areas it’s much colder here.

Its tough to get a Rolex watch from an AD. I expanded the list. The AD salesman tried to get me to buy other Rolex, two-tone, Date Just. I have never liked the Date Just nor the two-tone watches. I will continue to be patient.

I love it I got a few tudors and only longer wait I had was for the p01, it’s not a good experience when going for Rolex although I do think this will be my first Rolex. I think if they put lume on the crown at 12 o’clock this could not get any better. Looks a bit oversized on your wrist have you tried the discontinued 39mm that would fit you better. Colour wise it’s just a bit over the top for my taste but if you like it that’s all that matters. They added the double markers as otherwise the dateless dial would have way too much plain area with nothing going on. You can’t fault the quality of the finishing and the movement. Maybe this model will grow on me in time but my initial reaction is that Rolex are going for a younger trendy crowd. A younger trendy crowd with a rich mummy and daddy who spend 50K per annum at their AD to get on the list of new toys.
yeah a lot of ppl like the 36mm. i have it on right now, and for me, even if it was a little bigger i wouldnt mind. im used to big watches though. also, i've never made a single purchase at this ad. this was the first.

The Tiffany blue really reminded me of my sbga387 except I think I liked the GS better. It’s a great first watch but after all the hype I must admit I’m a little disappointed. It makes it a tough choice between the OP and my Tudor pepsi for everyday watch.

i like it a lot. before the datejust was a wati list only watch i considered buying the wimbledon SS but with the fluted bezel, oyster bracelet. Do u have one?
@@LewisMa , no but I am seriously eyeballing it. I agree with the oyster bracelet, for some reason the jubilee just doesn't look that good on this watch. But in January I missed out on a black Explorer II when I went to get my Tudor Bronze. For some reason it made it to the cage, I tried it on and it wears really nice. But on that day I opted for the Tudor.

How is the AD doing you a favor during this purchase? If you've made the purchase then the watch and all its contents are your property. You should be able to leave with the stickers on if you wish to as I have many times when purchasing a Rolex. This narrative that the AD and some customers are spinning that, "they must remove your stickers" is ridiculous. Once you've paid for the item its is yours to do what you wish. If I purchase a Ferrari and tell the dealer to leave the travel protection stickers on the body and not to wash the car as my personal detailer will prepare the automobile for me. That is BS as far as I am concerned and you're perpetrating this nonsense to unsophisticated newcomers to the watch community.

Life is too short... buy and enjoy what you like. It doesn’t matter if someone else hates the color, size, brand, etc.; buy the watch, house, car, etc for you and enjoy the hell out of whatever you have purchase. I have a 15.8 - 16cm wrist circumference. I'm torn b/w the 36 and 41 sizes. What you think?
Check out vinny Singh's review. He has a smaller wrist. I like 41 either way but a lot of ppl disagree with me

I noticed in the AD how it changes colour depending on the light . Some lights red others more orange
It's a very unique color. I believe the shot of the lume under the fluorescent light in my video was the most accurate color

Go 41 mm with silver or black dials. Go 36 with stella dials.

i like it a lot. before the datejust was a wati list only watch i considered buying the wimbledon SS but with the fluted bezel, oyster bracelet. Do u have one?
@@LewisMa , no but I am seriously eyeballing it. I agree with the oyster bracelet, for some reason the jubilee just doesn't look that good on this watch. But in January I missed out on a black Explorer II when I went to get my Tudor Bronze. For some reason it made it to the cage, I tried it on and it wears really nice. But on that day I opted for the Tudor.

How is the AD doing you a favor during this purchase? If you've made the purchase then the watch and all its contents are your property. You should be able to leave with the stickers on if you wish to as I have many times when purchasing a Rolex. This narrative that the AD and some customers are spinning that, "they must remove your stickers" is ridiculous. Once you've paid for the item its is yours to do what you wish. If I purchase a Ferrari and tell the dealer to leave the travel protection stickers on the body and not to wash the car as my personal detailer will prepare the automobile for me. That is BS as far as I am concerned and you're perpetrating this nonsense to unsophisticated newcomers to the watch community.

Rolex is just taking the piss with these stupid colors. They show some people will buy anything if it is linked to a brand. Honestly, would you buy this if it were an Invicta? No way.

Life is too short... buy and enjoy what you like. It doesn’t matter if someone else hates the color, size, brand, etc.; buy the watch, house, car, etc for you and enjoy the hell out of whatever you have purchase. Almost dying brings a lot into perspective. Mainly, learn to enjoy what and who you have. May God bless you.
