For those wondering, defense lowers rings lost when hit, but the defense stats efficiency is also enemy dependent. Weak enemies can become trivial, requiring like 7 hits to kill you, rarer and more dangerous enemies get a small reduction while bosses seem to ignore defense stat, or at least I didnt notice a difference.
And yet Magni tanked a solid 3 hits from Squid before dying. Isn't it the opposite? Or is there another factor to it, like having max rings? It did give Sonic a significant speed boost when Magni held 400 rings.

For anyone curious on the anime Ves was quoting, it's called "BOFURI: I don't want to get hurt so I'll max out my defense" It's basically shield hero meets SAO (full dive MMO) but it's light hearted and fun. Season 2 coming in January as well!
Bofuri is the anime Gramps was talking about. Its a light fun mmo anime but its goat for showing off that Tanks can be OP as well as others going VERY specific builds.
The whole fishing segment from that stream was glorious. Both were losing their mind, Mag was getting scammed and Ves was malding about the non accurate fish of that stupid pond.
Honestly, I'm mixed about our reaction to the defense question while it was live. On one hand, Dez thought it would be a good idea to ask for tips on a very recently released game. On the other hand, I feel like I resonated more with Dez and his rage when we bombarded him with troll tips. Probably my villain mindset, then, hahaha~ X"D

Since this is a new game I'm going to tell you why that happened Megni dezmond is playing on hard mode were you lose rings the classic way with one hit and they're gone Normal mode allows to lose some rings but not all of them just as many as shadow the hedgehog video game Easy mode you lose 5 or 10 rings at best So hard mode with enough defense you can save around a little bit of rings so two hits before they're all gone instead of one.
Ahh so that’s what hard mode does apart from the extra thing at the end of the game. I had no idea since enemies seem to die pretty quickly even at this point if the game

I think he forgot he was playing on hard mode and also that one enemy by default hitting like a truck in comparison to it’s very low health. So while it probably would have done something on normal or easy, it would take a lot more defence to tank a hit from the wheel

Yeah so 151 rings is nothing on hard. Which is why it seemed like it didn't matter. If he had more it would've made a difference. But it's not like Skyrim where the difference between 1 and 100 is godlike.
Defense is tricky to max out, so its no big deal Unrelated I love maxing out ring counter. You unlock the sonic movie powers and just blast through areas with a lightning boost
