Dear Rasikas, Pt.Jasraj is always revered in Chennai . I have been listening to him for the last 40 years +. Ever since my first Concert experience he has always mesmerised the Audience with his Shruthi laden music and the laya patterns which attracts more the South Indian audience. Once he was Invited by Pt.Krishnanand , a renowned Hindustaani Music Scholar in Chennai to Inaugurate his Mian Tansen Music Festival , which was an annual feature in Chennai. It complemented soon after the December Music season during Pongal Holidays. Then , Pt.Jasraj came to Right Honorable Srinivas Sastry Hall in Mylapore, beautifully decked up in Silk kurta pajama. No sooner he lit up the Auspicious Lamp did the Audience started to request him ( a bit loudly ) in a friendly vien , to Sing for a few minutes. He gently smiled and did oblige us. He asked for a Tanpura , tuned it and Lo, he outpoured a Saraswathy Sloka in Behag. All were instantly transported to Brahmalok, thanks to Pandit ji. Dr.C.V.Gopal, Chennai.
Bharat Ratna Awardees are chosen by the Government. It should come to one on his own/her merit. We should not beg for it. Bismillah Khan Sahib never cared for any Award or Reward. His entire life was dedicated to Hindustani Music and propagated through his innumerable disciples. Pandit Bhimsen Joshi once said that the greatest award he has received is to live in the Hearts of his Rasikas .M.S Subba Lakshmi dedicated her Music to Thirupati Balaji and Kanchi Maha Periyavaa . Laurels came onto her without anyone asking or recommending. The above mentioned persons were Bharat Ratna Awardees.
