My check engine light went off at 70k miles. I threw the switch myself. I had it for eight years until someone stoled it. It was a fun vehicle to ride. I would take it to the beaches in Florida and camping in the Florida State parks. I also took it muddying in Seminole county. I also pulled an S10 Chevy pickup truck stuck in the mud.
    I loved my Samurai.

You may have miss spoke but you should get heat from below & through the defroster there is a door at bottom of heater to regulate how much goes to either one. Every Sammy I've had the wipers work great (I'm from Oregon)but why I'm here I want to share... before your window crank handle strips out & the door handles break, when you feel resistance take a can of lube with the straw squirt in the door lock & pivot points on outer handle then inside remove door card & shoot anything that moves...do this whenever you feel the need. Don't break your handles

  • @rogeroday9408
    @rogeroday9408 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I own a Sammy.
Yer right, in hill country it’s gonna get there last.
5th gear only give you about 500 RPM. But on flat roads it will in fact cruise nicely at 70/75.
It’s loud up there, but it does it.
Overpass will bring you down to 60.
    It’s built for off-road.
    That’s where it shines.
    Fun video. Thanks.

Awsome video, I just bought a 86 sanarai last night for 3 grand, drove it home on I-5 from north of Seattle to Elma Washington about 70 miles doing 60-65 mph. 5th gear work well on flat or down hill. But this answered every question I had. Thanks

Great video. I just purchased a 1988 tin can to work on. I have always been a vintage Jeep guy so the Samurai is a new adventure. Purchased a barely running tin can for $2,900 but it now purrs like a kitten - amazing how an inverted fuel line filter, dirty carb, loose serpentine belt and jacked-up vacuum lines effect performance (the seller was not mechanically inclined at all). This will be a fun project and the heater box drill trick will be on my list. Take care from Minnesota.

@@Hwy83SUZUKI This is my "learning Samurai". It is not worthy of a full restoration due to rust, etc. but it will give me an opportunity to learn about the vehicle and have some fun - 88k miles, everything now works but the body is very rusty (good frame). The 94 YJ I most recently restored (66k original miles) never saw snow and spent 16 years years in a garage outside Denver and before that was in Texas. I am not a fan of rust but will weld new floor pans, do some body repair (not my expertise), paint it flat black or grey and have fun with it. The next Sammy will be from down South with zero rust.

This new owner video is helping me greatly. Question: 1991 Samurai, 1.3, pulled the valve cover and a couple of the short screws in the rocker arms had worked out. Found one, replaced it and tightened all of them. I could not find the other screw, changed oil and couldn't find it there either. I replaced the lost screw. I have a peck in the engine, can't hear it until I give it gas, not a rod . Could the missing screw get anywhere that would cause the pecking? it's not on top of the head. Thanks for all the videos, you help me a bunch.

That light indicates you, it's time to check your engine, if everything is ok, turn the light off, if not, then fix it and that light will turn on again whe necessary

Another important note for first-time owners of these (at least if they work on their own) is that timing marks and ignition timing is based on cylinder number 4 at TDC... not cylinder number 1 like most other engines and most 3rd party literature states. If you base timing on cylinder number 1, you're going to get some backfiring.

I don't see a video about adjusting the clutch on these? That might be a good one. My 95 Tracker is a little hard to shift. I just ordered your shifter rebuild kit but I think my cable is out of adjustment. Pedal height feels good and it does not slip if I try to climb hills or anything but it wants to kinda almost grind when I shift. 170,000 miles so far. I just bought it so don't know when the last clutch was put in or if ever yet. I think there must be an adjustment on it somewhere. Thanks for the school of Samarioligy.

I'm a fan of the Toyota 3K/4K carb. You'll have a manual choke, but it's fine even for modified engines and it's better offroad than the Weber (the Weber stalls on steep angles). It's also cheaper, eliminates vacuum lines, and has only marginally less power potential (still a better carb than the stock unit). Certified Machine has an awesome kit for sale that includes all of the needed hardware and an already tested/tuned new carb. If you're spending 99.9% of your time on the road, the Weber is hard to beat without spending a bunch on a fancy custom intake manifold to fit multiple motorcycle carbs.

OMG I always thought the switch was added by somebody trying to skip smog LOL. I was never going to ask though. But now that you brought it up do I just flip it in One Direction and then goes off or do you flip on and off?

That hood release was supposedly place there because the samurai was a right hand drive and they were too lazy to run the cable to the left side for US samurais. but yeah you covered the most important part and that is where its at. I had trouble with that.
