A Visit to Philippe Dufour, Legend of Traditional Watchmaking - Ep. 6 - WATCHMAKING ROADTRIP

- After having visited some important and prestigious watch brands, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, it was time for our guys of the Watchmaking Roadtrip to experience something rather different as today we will encounter a legend of traditional watchmaking: Mr. Philippe Dufour.
We remained in the Vallée de Joux and Mr. Dufour warmly greeted us in his workshop where he crafts his watches all by himself. This atelier really makes you feel and understand where watchmaking comes from and it was with great attention that all the guys listened carefully to Mr. Dufour as he explained to us in much details his career, his experience, his thoughts on modern watchmaking and naturally showed us some of his timepieces. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต

Wow, the chance to meet Mr Philippe Dufour. I don't think the vast majority of people grasp the ultra complexity of making a watch from raw materials put into these great micro machinists... The price is correct with how complicate and dear I wish I could afford. Amazing documentary with one of the kings, he's an arc of information dying off quickly.

What a fantastic man, and he hand indents the rotor teeth too. Pruzisio (sic) I believe uses a team, it seems only Vatuluniian(sic) and that LLoyd chappie in the Isle of Man do the same. He is my favorite Emperor over the entire world of watches. Me little 'ole Blighty shows it's hand too at the summit, which is pleasing. I'll probably buy a C.Ward SH21 in homage. Oh to have been on this tour, I knew nothing about watches in me Swiss cycling tour days.
What a beautiful studio...full of machines and tools.
Mr. Dufour is a charismatic person, no question.

I imagine him sitting there alone in his studio, concentrated while solving a problem...
...then he glances out the window while big snowflakes are falling continuously...
I can literally smell the pipe tobacco in my mind - a wonderful craft that sadly is dying.

I would give my kidneys to have been there. I love Mr Dufour and respect him greatly. His passion and dedication gives me hope that the tradition of hand made watch making will live on. I love this! A couple of weeks ago I took a high end decoration and finishing for movements taught by a Swiss watchmaker and he taught us some Dufour techniques specifically on polishing sinks and beveling and it was amazing. I love Dufour and think he's one of the greatest watchmakers of all time. His watches are definitely the best finished watches EVER.
Must have been an interesting course!! And yes the finishing is just from another planet on his watches.
By far this is my favorite video from TheWatchesTV. Incorporating history, emotion, and passion this video was made possible. Great stuff, guys!

dufour's simplicity is auctioned at almost $300k this year. i dont know how much people would pay for his minutes repeater.
ahah loved the video and the energy coming fromt this video .. especially i lvoed the part srsly excited what is going on "and then you see a guy crying out of happiness " reminds me of the book/movie the perfume .. where in the end they start just have sex with each other cuz they are so excited and hiped up from the smell of the masterpiece of his final work!

Well in all honesty, we received only one candidacy and she wanted to come with her boyfriend, also watch lover, so it seemed a bit complicated for this 1st edition, but of course, would love to have girls participating and hope this will be the case next edition!!!!
I would at least put on a decent shirt and pair of slacks if I were to visit such a man. It is surprising to see Europeans dressed like American tourists. Great video, though!

Philippe Dufour's watches are nowhere near as good as a seiko or casio. He'll, even Daniel Wellingtons watches are better crafted than Mr. Dufours watches. 😈😈😈
