    I think everyone at the Perth Electric Tramway Society was very excited to see how much the public enjoyed riding the tram extension.

      It is probably because it is in a safe Labor seat and they don't need to spend money on it because even if they lose the election Rockingham will always be Labor.

      @nihongo02341 That's got nothing to do with it. Metronet expansion has occurred through seats held by either side of politics. This here is about public transport and tourism, which is of importance to the state as a whole.

      Yes it is an Old Melbourne W Class tram. PETS has many of them mainly to allow the operation of the tramway to continue and gain money to restore old perth trams.

    Just had a flashback to my childhood. I grew up down south in the Sutherland Shire, Sydney, near the Loftus Tram Museum and the Royal National Park (the first national park in Australia).
    I remember riding this type of tram in the late 1960s there. Exactly the same! I think the museum is still open to the public with tram rides etc on offer. I well remember the old 'red-rattlers' as the trains were known as.
    I moved to Perth in the mid 1980s. So strange to see the tram with the green livery I knew so well from Sydney. I was also able to travel on the old double-decker green buses in Sydney as a child. It was always an adventure, climbing the stairs in the hope that the front seats weren't taken. My poor grandmother would always dread those stairs, but just the thrill on our faces made it worthwhile!

    If you told someone in 1958 that there be a train-tram connection in 2024, they would never believe you
    Maybe Fremantle should look at using their tram service in a similar way, maybe from Fremantle station to the markets just a suggestion

      We may see a tram network appear in the future as councils SOR are looking at Mid-Teir transport and some are prefering introducing a light rail network over buses. so who knows what the future will hold for perth's transport network, fingers crossed this won't be the last tram project the government does.

    The W class trams still fitted with a pole, How’s it train to tram the voltages are completely different?
    Train-1500 volts DC.
    Tram- 600 volts DC.
    For a train / tram to cross over one another they have to at low speed and not accelerate to avoid damaging the tram or its occupants.

    • @Trainanatic
      @Trainanatic  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      i think you are reading too much into the title. The trams dont run on the same track as the trams are standard and the perth suburban rail is narrow. it is just a tram stop that connects to a new train station.

    I wasn't impressed with the new tram set up at all. No timetable. When i asked the crew about times and days i was appalled at their lack of interest or knowledge. So, what's going to happen if I decide to take the train to Whiteman Park and sit at the new tramstop? What will the wait time be? Will a tram actually operate on the day I'm there? Who knows? Not me!! I hope they get the buses to cover the days the trams won't run. At least the buses will have a timetable - as they have them posted at their current stops. Its worth bearing in mind that this whole railway and new tram extension is for the benefit of the public visiting the park. It appears the tram connection and all to do with the tram is for the benefit of tram enthusiasts - playing trams! I'll continue to drive to Whiteman thanks.

    • @TransportofPerth
      @TransportofPerth 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      The timetable is literally posted on the PETS website. It runs every 30 minutes Tuesday, Friday and weekends and all days on school holidays except when there are heat restriction closures. It was just on the opening day that it was a little messy because of how busy it was.

    • @Leo-hv9mm
      @Leo-hv9mm วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TransportofPerth .. that doesn't help after a person has gotten to Whiteman Park by train does it? Many elderly people for instance don't have or use devices to see that information. The least PETS could have done was post a notice at the new tram stop to advise if or when a tram would be operating! Imagine turning up to catch your bus or train from wherever you live and the service (having been advertised as you've just stated) doesn't turn up. Imagine then calling say, transperth or swan transit or whomever and they don't answer your phone - not even a recorded message ?? Would you be impressed? And what if you'd travelled 90 minutes in 40 degree heat and that happened? What annoys me is that PETS was assisted by more than a million dollars to enable this extension and do you think that the next 12 months of "free" tram travel is being done for real "free"? Of course not - money is being provided to enable this as far as I've been told. But PETS isn't providing the service. If swan transit, path or any other provider of transit associated with Metronet/Transperth fails to provide a service there'd be problems! Myself and a 74 year old man inconvenienced yesterday in that shocking heat are contacting the department of transport, the minister for transport and metronet (all involved in the granting of funds to pets and the construction of). I've been waiting for this new "tram/train" connection for a good while so I can use public transport instead of driving there. Do I sound annoyed and upset? Guaranteed - myself and a good few others. Still not a word or explanation from the tram operator. The sooner the vintage bus group can get involved the better.
