Jose has become much more comfortable on camera. His sassy came out and it’s great! Plus the way Max looked at him was endearing… even though he was giving him weird things to eat.
I was born in 1942. While my dad we as overseas, mom and I lived next to an older couple who owned a grocery store. Candy and meat were rationed, but the lady liked me, and I never went without candy. We also had meat on a regular basis. Much later, mom told me we probably ate horse meat from time to time. I have no independent memory of its taste. Mom said it was good, but quite dark.
I like that he had to confirm there was no actual horsemeat in the chip 🤣, Then realizes how delicious horse actually is and contemplates where to acquire it
I can't tell what is best! Is it Max's comedic timing in commentary? Is it Jose's expressions of clear honest opinion? Is it the amusement and love shown in both of you? I shall never be able to decide.
The crisis over the cheese one is real lol. I appreciate that there's some inherent bias on my own part as maggots creep me out, but trying even those chips would be a struggle for me.
Yeah, the cheese is just... I saw a video about the process and why it's banned, saw a wheel 'in progress' which was too, too much. I do see why a cheesemaker would be open to it since cheese making is just controlled spoilage anyway but oof. Love this style of video! Super fun. :)
I had a really bad experience with powered chocolate not long ago. I made myself a cup of coffee and just because I added some powered chocolate to it. After I took the first sip, I felt something in my mouth. I checked it and it turned out to be an insect. I checked the coffee and there they were those bugs. I'm commenting this because they looked eeriely a lot like Kakuna, with their beady black eyes and everything, and the Kakuna plush reminded me of that incident.
Back university...... like way back 50 years, opened an Aero bar and it moved and there were bugs. It was so gross I have rarely eat them even after all this time, and if I do it is after checking them carefully, but it was decades before I would try.
Good to see the two of you together again and thank you for sharing that wedding picture. Max looks adorable as he looks at Jose. As for the chips, it was fun to see Jose trying them and Max's glee at describing the maggots much to Jose's disgust.
Ive tried horse before in Russia (Ulan Ude to be specific). In my opinion it's pretty similar to goat or possibly even venison. Personally i didnt really realize it wasnt something common. Idk about gamey, i still havent figured out what "gamey" means but i know i prefer gamey stuff. I love me some goat, lamb, and venison 🤤
Well need to have some actual flavor, instead of the white breadness of grass-fed beef, also means that the meat has a maybe tougher\stringier texture because most get exercise where most beef is stuffed in the feed lot and moves not at all during the end of its life.
What a fun follow-up! And the sound was just fine, imho. Maybe on another Ketchup, we can hear more of José's reviews of the "regular" TH fare and drinks, too. Congrats again... looking forward to future episodes! 🙃
Love the expressions...so horse meat was good, didn't like eating the cheese flavoured --"not eating maggots right?", and "I'm not going to die" the R.I.P. omg...great episode and thank you for sharing :) :)

I've tasted horse meat several times as a kid in the 80s, when it was still reasonably easy to find it at some butcher shops here in Denmark. It's nice but pretty similar to beef as I remember it. But today it has just completely disappeared as an option, as far as I can tell. It's interesting how something just goes out of style in such a fairly short time period.

I haven’t been able to sit and watch for a while. I was so happy to see that TH is doing so well. Love Jose’s reaction to the idea of how the cheese is made, right there with ya buddy.
As far as the flavor is artificial and just mimics the taste of a given food, I think I'd try anything. With one exception: spiders. I know there are places where people eat roasted giant spiders, yet my level of arachnophobia is such that any association with spiders is enough to keep me at a distance. I can't even approach, let alone touch, an image... so I would not get near the chips package 😀
Funny. When I watched the Tasting History episode, I thought to myself “I’ll bet Jose wouldn’t like the casu marzu.”Do I get brownie points? (By the way, we just ordered some of these as a Christmas present for my daughter’s boyfriend’s brother, who is a challenge to buy for. So, thanks!)
I'm soo glad the Ketchups are back! Agree with Jose, the texture of cheese in general is nice but I'm not loving the taste. And I think I'd like it even less if a magot digested it previously....
I think I saw the fugu one in the store? I know I've seen it before someplace and did not pay enough attention to them. All I know is I wanted to say whoever did the latest Disney+ commercials, the ones that came out since D+day deserves the biggest gold star because those have been especially great! (To me... which might not say much because I already subscribe... but it makes me not want to cancel as well so it should mean something) I think of all the pokemon, the ones that probably resemble Maggots the most are Weedle and Grubbin... but good luck getting a sitting cutie of one of them because everything pokemon seems to still sell out fast.
I was making a chili con carne the other day, and seeing as how beef is two and a half times more expensive than horse meat where i live, I decided to go for horse meat instead. It can be a bit tougher, but seeing as how I stewed the chili for six hours, that turned into a non issue. :P Bit different tasting than usual, but was still very tasty.
