as someone who used to be an avid mushroom hater, they're now some of my favorite things to eat! they're definitely an acquired taste and texture, but eating them in pastas or overall creamy dishes really elevates the experience... highly recommend mushroom potpie if you start to feel more adventurous with the fungus!!
Also great if you just give them a good saute to get rid of all their extra water before you add them to things. Check out Wicked Kitchen for more awesome mushroom recipes (bbq mushrooms like steak, etc.).
that was actually my first venture trying them in my own cooking, when i made them in a potato mushroom pot pie for my bf 😊 but it was short lived and i decided i didnt like them again 😆
I'm so jealous! You have access to so much exotic and specialty produce!...custard apples, pink lemons, dried lobster mushrooms??? (Sigh)... I can only dream. Thanks for another great video, a between e! (I finally got it from the last video!)😂😍
Your videos are the only thing I can sit through... they’re so relaxing and your voice is very soothin. Plus let’s not forget, they are always informative! 💫
I love mushrooms but didn’t always. One of the best ways to make them (and tbh anything) is breaded and fried! I blend nuts and oats to create the crumble. Then I dip wet mushrooms in flour, then plant milk, then the bread mixture. The flour and milk steps create a nice sticky base for the crumb mix. This works on other stuff too like eggplants and tofu. The crumb mix can be flavored up spicy, tart with lemon, savory with herbs, anything you’d like! :)
Ooh, I definitely need to try that lemonade with elderflower! Elderflower is legit my go-to flower tea(right besides rose and hibiscus teas). If you're looking for a good floral tea, try the Sweet Tulsi Rose tea, it's sweet and it says it enhances your mood, and legit, it does for me! And if you wanna try a sweet combination, try rose petals, hibiscus and green tea. I'm impressed that you went to try the porcini and lobster mushrooms, regardless of the fact you're not normally big on mushrooms! There's oyster mushrooms that might make a good addition to a dish that requires seafood(normally).
@@abetweene The brand is called "Organic India", which has a couple varieties of tulsi tea I drink(the original and the Sweet Rose variety), amongst others!
Yes, dried mushrooms! I love using them. Actually, I find that if you soak them in water overnight with room temp water (leaving plenty of room for them to expand) you get more bang for your buck. Sometimes when you just soak them in hot water right before cooking they’re still a little chewy. AND, most importantly, you can save the soaking liquid for an incredibly flavorful mushroom stock.
Loved this!! I made vegan nuggets yesterday. I just marinated pure Tofu in flour and plant milk and then I made the crust out of crushed corn flakes, paprika pulver, salt, pepper and a tiny bit of sugar. They don‘t taste like much so the sauce has to be it. I love Ketchup with it or hummus, curry hummus or natural or whatever. The textures are IT!!🤤🤤
my veg bf hated mushrooms, too. the trick is to get them really crispy! add clean thinly sliced mushrooms to a pan on medium heat with nothing else in it, toss them around every once in a while and cook them for like 10ish minutes, until they release most of their water and are dried out, seared and golden-brown (the pan should be barely smoking at this point). add your oil of choice and fry until crispy, then add any additional seasonings or herbs! i love them on top of cold noodle salad with a crunchy seared protein marinated in red curry paste and coconut milk (chicken or tofu usually), tons of cilantro + a spicy lime sesame dressing :)
The pic of the pasta alone along with the other goodies I know you're going to prepare has my mouth watering! I love shiitake, cremini, and portabella mushrooms although I usually eat them in Thai food or in pasta. So yummy A😍
Okay I love the trader joes crabless patties, try them like this: iceberg lettuce wraps with basmati rice, cut up crab cake into strips, make a sauce with tofutti sour cream, pickles, lemon juice or pickle juice, s&p, seriously so so good!!
I'm the same way with mushrooms. My Mom loves those things. She puts them in salads. I just can get over the texture, no matter how they are cooked. Thanks again for these awesome Vegan dishes 🤗❤️🙏🏼
I'm glad you said this! I personally don't like mushrooms but I am open to try them again since my husband and I plan to do a 30 day vegan challenge. I can't wait to try your recipe I'm happy to hear there's hope lol
I was so glad when I saw this video, I thought maybe you'd stopped doing the vegan vids as I noticed you do beauty ones mostly :) so glad you're still doing these coz they're so relaxing and enjoyable to watch. Best wishes from over here in Scotland x
I just discovered your channel last week and believe me when I tell you that I've watched every food video like my life depended on it 😅😍 everything about them is perfect! Thank you for making this high quality content 🥰
ok good, cause i actually borderline hated it, despite the fact that I normally put that exact seasoning blend on top anyway. thought I was crazy for a sec! 😅
I didn't know macadamia nuts were so soft like cashews! I make cashew milk sweetened with dates religiously. I can't wait to try this! I have had bad luck in the past, ending up with rancid macadamias (it is a pricy gamble).
I used to love mushrooms. Now too many, or too big, and the texture gets to me. I tried chopping them really small and cooking until all the liquid is gone and using it as a meat sub for tacos. So good
Omg I know that exact rose elderflower/elderberry lemonade you’re talking about!! I found them in a discount store a year or so ago and thought they were so good and haven’t been able to find them since!
Looks so fye 😋. I happen to love mushrooms. I didn’t as a child, but teenage years and beyond I grew an intense love for them. I throw them in meals that I need to “stretch”. Definitely a filler!
I love mushrooms but I know a lot of ppl don’t and I get why! Lol it’s good you tried them! 🙌🏾 The pasta dishes looked so good! And the syrups and jam! I LOVE elderflower too! So good...especially in Summer!
Excellent video of what abetweene ate in a week. I eat mushrooms in curries, chilli, risotto, soup and pasta and I love them as an alternative to vegan ground beef and alternative to meat in spaghetti bologonaise.
Love custard apples,i make creamy yoghurty from it n hv w/granola. You're not alone w/the bagels plain or cinnamon. Something about everything bagels throws me off.
I really dislike mushrooms but recently i made this: pan fry some gnocchi in another pan fry onion, garlic, fresh italian herbs + sage, and then add mixed mushrooms, vegan ground meat, and add some vegan cream at the end, this really blew my mind
Since you mentioned the pink oranges, it reminded me of another kind of orange. Where I live there are these kinds of oranges we call "Blood oranges" (I love this name haha) But basically some parts on the insides are so red it actually looks like real blood. Tastes like normal oranges but looks super cool.
pls with mushroom I'm exactly the same it's the texture for me but when you cut them super small and mix them with other food I love them cause the taste is actually good (depending on which type of mushroom of course)
TJ’s sells a soda very similar to your elderflower sparkling lemonade, and OMG it is so good. Also the jackfruit crab cakes from there do not hit like I wanted them to, and I was so sad.
Great vid. So, I'm a lil leary with mushrooms as well. So whenever I eat them, they're damm near minced lol jk. But wondering if u'd be interested in trying ur hand at the following: portobello, shiitake, porcini, chanterells, enokitake, maitake (hen of woods) & king trumpet.
You may have mentioned this in another video, but where do you do the majority of your grocery shopping? Do you have access to a Farmer's Market? Just curious because I have Trader Joes and other local grocery stores. Thank you for sharing your recipes!
THE best way to relax after this week!

he’s actually one of the reasons i thought i should give mushrooms a try. the double skillet technique is so intriguing (and smart)!
I love gnocchi with a sauce of mixed mushrooms, vegan ground meat and cream, & sage or thyme
Any tips on how to overcome the texture? Thats what puts me off the most

We don't have here so much vegan products like the vegan bacon but I really love pasta with the cashews sauce ❤
you can make your own bacon too with zucchini, root vegetables, or mushrooms by marinating then baking 😉
..or use smoked Tofu 🙄
@@YassmineWantsPeace you don't need to be rude girl. why could you not of just said " smoked tofu is a good option"
