This is unusual. I’ve never seen anyone perform a song while sitting down with an interviewer like they’re still in an interview. No stage, no back up singers or dancers, nothing added. I think it kinda adds to the meaning of the song, people having these suicidal thoughts at any moment and people around wouldn’t know. Plus the way he just goes back to talking to the interviewer, crazy.
The videoclip he made is quite strong too.

He had litterally disappeared from the media and never wanted to sing again for years. Everybody wanted to know about his well being. The lyrics give answers about what he went through. He wanted to avoid discussing it unprompted as it is such a sensitive topic. Instead he wrote a song and offered it to us the public to give us all the answers we needed.
Remember though. He is Belgian. And it speaks a lot about his approach to the media which is more spontaneous and less codified than in France. Definitely a big electroshock in France when this happened.
J'étais devant le JT avec mon vieux père ce soir la, et même si je sais qu'il a pu souffrir de voir ma dépression s'installer, c'est un tabou dont on ne parle pas. On était côté à côté, silencieux, et il avait du mal à retenir ses larmes.
I understand completely. My father doesn’t understand my depression, even though I know he suffers from it himself. Whether it’s a generational thing or not he chooses to ignore it and to misunderstand it in others. I sent him this song when I heard it. Sometimes music speaks more than simple words.

@@gixxie117 It was planned and has been recorded a few days before in order to prevent accidents. However, it's been recorded in "live"-like conditions to preserve it's authenticity. If it hadn't been planned, how could the music be launched at exactly the right time, how could it be filmed so well with traveling cams, etc... But does it change anything about the way Stromae delivered his message to everyone? I don't think so.

This performance was so beautiful. Stromae staring at the camera the entire time while expressing himself was so intimate and genuine. I've always loved the way he chooses to perform and express his music, truly encompassing the meaning of the song. It was perfect for the interviewer at the end to say 'Thank you for your sincerity' because this wasn't simply a performance of his song, but also Stromae revealing his emotions. And it was beautiful.

I was so moved. I received this notification while being on weed and I felt like this was the anchorman that spoke to me from another planet, as if a superior being (almost a reptile: check his horns) came to this planet to give me an important message that would be relevant for the whole humanity in this period of crisis. The message was in French and I am a native Spanish speaker who never took French classes and only understand the academic words and the most known expressions. So I could not get the message and now I know everything was a big illusion. I would interpret the message as if I should dedicate to music and stop all the vices around. I know there is a lot of symbolism and I should have written this on paper or on a chat, but first thing I found to write this message was this comment box. I am going to reply and get the message released even if it did not mean anything to anyone else. There is no way back

Une sincérité touchante qu'on trouve aussi dans la prestation de Loic Nottet en direct sur sa chaîne TH-cam, quand il a chanté sa chanson Mr/Mme pour la 1ère fois (Loic Nottet Mr/Mme live session). Il est beaucoup moins médiatisé que Stromae mais sa chanson est tout aussi sincère et touchante et évoque autrement la santé mentale.

I feel like this performance was so strong, so emotional, so personal. only the strong people are able to talk and sing about their trauma and admit their insecurity like that. It's been several decades since we've had an artist capable of producing such an incredible style of expression. It's like the dresses of Lady Gaga, or the vulnerability of Sia, but perhaps more easily comparable to artists like Van Gogh

Au delà de la performance qui est incroyable, la mise en scène et le texte résonnent au delà de ça. Je pense que l’on est nombreux à s’être senti concerné (de près ou de loin) par les paroles, et le choix des mots n’est pas anodin à mon sens puisqu’il n’a de cesse de nous interpeller et de nous le rappeler tout au long de son texte ; nous sommes nombreux à souffrir de solitude, nombreux d’entre nous ont déjà pensé au suicide, nombreux sont ceux qui souffrent. Et pour ce qui est de la mise en scène, il y a clairement une volonté d’interpeller le plus de monde possible, de « choquer » (puisque la santé mentale reste un sujet tabou en France), de rester en mémoire. Au delà d’exprimer son mal-être, il exprime celui d’un nombre incalculable de personne et amène à se questionner sur la santé mentale de chacun d’entre nous et de celle de nos proches.

Il est tellement connu à l'international, quand je vois tous ces commentaires que je ne comprend même pas, en anglais, en espagnol ou en russe, ça me rend vraiment fier.
En plus je me souviens, que quand j'étais au primaire, tout le monde se réunissaient dans la cour pour chanter ses chansons, et malgré les différents que l'on avait entre nous, tout le monde connaissait ces chansons par cœur. Moi, c'est la chanson Mr/Mme, chantée pour la première fois, en direct lors de la présentation virtuelle sur TH-cam du deuxième album de Loic Nottet, qui m'a touché droit au coeur. Sachant qu'elle serait difficile à interpréter, les spectateurs envoyaient des messages d'amour et de soutien dans le chat de youtube et c'était un moment incroyable pour les paroles très fortes, l'intensité et l'émotion dans l'interprétation et les dernières notes quand le chanteur entre dans un espèce de monde intérieur qu'il partage néanmoins avec son public: th-cam.com/video/YMZzFMU390U/w-d-xo.html
@Thalia Bonjour, et bien ce qui m'a aidé dans un premier temps ce fut d'accepter de prendre des médicaments. J'étais vraiment contre à la base mais c'est ce qui m'a permis de sortir la tête hors de l'eau dans un premier temps. Ensuite, après un voyage, je me suis trouvé un nouveau but, de nouvelles perspectives. Et ça m'a aidé grandement. Enfin, oser en parler autour de soi fait du bien également. C'est un processus assez long mais ça vaut vraiment le coup. Même qd tt paraît sombre, il faut se dire que tôt ou tard la lumière reviendra. Je vous souhaite un très bon rétablissement. Et surtout ne lâchez jamais !
Courage à vous j’espère que vous allez mieux et que vous avez trouvé la paix

Le grand comeback
Je l'ai tellement attendu. Stromae est vraiment l'artiste qui a rempli mon cœur pendant toute mon adolescence. J'ai appris à avancer et à me battre uniquement grâce à certaines de ses chansons. Il a été absent 7 ans et pendant 7 ans j'ai attendu. C'était une attente spéciale. Car je savais qu'il reviendrait. Et ce jour tant attendu est maintenant.
Et I'm revient tellement au bon moment, quand on a besoin de lui.

@@JojoCarlG Bien sûr que non ce n'est pas de l'impro, tout était bien calé en amont comme tout le monde s'en doute. Mais ce texte et sous-texte, chacun l'interprètera bien comme il le voudra, mais perso j'entends la dépression et les pressions d'un monde qui nous pèse à tous. Et il appuie sur le rôle des médias dans notre mal-être, ces mauvaises nouvelles sans cesse (parce qu'on le veut bien, ne soyons pas hypocrite), nous rabâcher les mêmes choses à longueur d'année, et surtout ce qu'ils veulent bien nous montrer. Ça reste assez furtif et subliminal dans le texte (c'est comme ça que toutes les publicités arrivent à s'inscrire dans nos têtes) mais ce clin d'oeil après le "pas trop quand même", il est juste d'une puissance magnifique
