Official video for "The Great Escape" by Patrick Watson from the album Close to Paradise (2006, Secret City Records).
    [lyrics]
Bad day, looking for a way home,
    looking for the great escape.
Gets in his car and drives away,
far from all the things that we are.
Puts on a smile and breathes it in
and breathes it out, he says,
bye bye bye to all of the noise.
Oh, he says, bye bye bye to all of the noise.
Doo doo doo doo doo noo noo
Doo doo doo doo doo noo noo noo noo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo noo noo noo
Hey child, things are looking down.
That's okay, you don't need to win anyways.
Don't be afraid, just eat up all the gray
and it will fade all away.
    Don't let yourself fall down.
Doo doo doo doo doo noo noo
Doo doo doo doo doo noo noo noo noo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo noo noo noo
Bad day, looking for the great escape.
He says, bad day, looking for the great escape.
On a bad day, looking for the great escape,
    the great escape.

You know what.. I believe people with real issues will understand when I say this song should be listened to when, literally, having a bad day. Grab your headphones, close the blinds, and just run this on repeat. The beauty of it helps. It really does.

***** what an arrogant and uninformed opinion you have there. this might come as a shock to people like you but sometimes, the problems we have cant be solved without powerful drugs that don't just help with the problem, but create new ones.
I would rather be anxious all the time, then feel nothing at all

    • @4Caprichos
      @4Caprichos 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

It's just a personal opinion, I think nobody is aiming to solve all the cases of depression in the world with a song. Any way your solution may be valid for some (try helping out someone with depression getting out of the house and run and sing along, kudos to you) and really worthless for others. As the common sense should tell you, we're not all the same.

“It’s okay you don’t need to win anyways” is one of the greatest lyrics penned in our lifetime. That is some deep, DEEP metaphysical truth and a harsh but important lesson in everyone’s life.

This song really gave me perspective on coming back from depression. "Don't be afraid just eat up all the grey and it will fade away." I was looking for something to bring me back to how I once was, a way out. Yet there is no great great escape, there is no such thing. At least not in the way you might think. The great escape is a long process, not breif. It could be as simple as putting a smile on your face everyday and appreciating all the things you have

When I was 15, I dealt with an eating disorder and depression. Every time I tried to calm down, I put this song, resting in my bed or walking to school. Not only did it eased me, but it gave me hope and joy. I could actually visualize a future where i was better and, most important, happy. This song _was_ my great escape and it will forever have a special place in my heart.

I thought I understood the meaning of this song when I first heard it in 2015. I was wrong. This song is what it feels like to live through a global pandemic at the age of 21. So much unknown, so much lonely, so much grey. But I'm taking it day by day and finding escape in the things that I'm passionate about. One day, things will be okay again.

Sometimes we get closer to the end of our book but it is our decision whether we end it with our blood or with the most colorful memories, even if they are painful, continue to write the book for those we loved for those we hated for those who we miss to show them what they have taught us that they see that they have shown you to love no matter how dark the day was but to finish the book too quickly removes us from the loved ones who may also finish their book too early and not write the colorful story of your life to the end of what I want to say of what you love and the story you want to hear one of your loved ones

Today Friday 23rd August 2024, I discovered Patrick watson at 11: 29 pm.
I have listened to "je te laisserai des mots" last year but I never paid attention to who sang it but today, I know who did it. He is such a delight to my ears.

The pathos in this song is so thick you could cut it with a knife. Or maybe it's just Patrick Watson, who could take any words and make you choke trying to hold back tears as you listen to how he voices them. Simply beautiful.

Heard this song today on the radio for the first time. Beautiful. Have it on repeat. My wife always has a go at me for listening sad songs. But it usually is just the Beautiful composition and piano which Gets to me. Good text and usage of voice.
I am hardly ever sad (luckily) iT might be that is why I love this kind of music? It is not an escape. It just is mesmerizing and soothing.

The song is about our challenge to find an out of our mundane life of nothingness that has consumed us. The video is broken into 3 stories, (1)working on an assembly line as a labourer, (2)raising/protecting a child that one day protects you and learning to enjoy life on your own in the now. These are all symbolic for 1 - Marx's Theory of Alienation 2 - Robert Munsch - Love you forever and 3 - Alan Watts - "Music and Life". obviously the flower means something too, up to you
