This guy's physique in 300 is absolutely ridiculous. No gayness, just plain awe. Wish he would've asked him about his diet during the months leading up to shooting this movie - must've been crazy.
The training was *super* intense. Read a thing saying that the person who trained Butler said that he pushed him harder than he has ever pushed anyone, including himself
Phantom is my favorite movie. I always enjoyed the Broadway play as a child and when the movie came out my husband and I were thrilled. Gerard made it 1000x better by playing such a charming, handsome Phantom.
Amazing actor! So handsome and so talented! He was fantastic in the phantom of the opera and in dear franky! And in 300, just gorgeous!!! He played like a real Greek ,full of passion, I m proud that he was chosen to play a great man like Leonidas.
I love looking at him and listening to his beautiful Scottish accent. He sounds so calm in this interview. All his other interviews he's usually yelling or laughing. but this is different. (He's gorgeous!)
Great interview, thanks for sharing. As to 'The Man's' smoking, read his interview in the Men's Health Mag. He is trying, really trying. BTW--Great interview there as well. Really give's new insight into 'The Man'himself.
Love this! And yes! As a bodybuilder I can say a lot of competitors have to go through reverse diets or they lose muscle/gain fat fairly quickly, too. Such an inspiration to go through all of the training for a role in a movie!
He is indeed a very determined person when he sets his mind in something. For examle, he also made a great work in "Phantom of the Opera", four years ago, when he had singing lessons and manage to rise to a level to give a decent portrayal in the musical even if not a prof. singer. And yes, i agree -he's a fine specimen of Celts! Saw him in kilt and a celtic sword. Much more better than in Leonidas...!
FINALLY someone is on the same page with me about talking about whether or not people are gay! It's their own business and why the heck does it matter anyway? Thank you JustCallMeTracy!!!
The hilarious thing is, now I can't watch Phantom of the Opera without thinking, "SPARTAAA." Or watch the 300 without thinking, "When are they going to start singing?" :DD
I was honestly very suprised to see him taking this role. He seems like such a quiet guy who likes to play more serious roles. No he was awesome even so in 300, I'm just suprised he was there is all. I'm just so used to him talking in his nice quiet voice. Great actor though. Really seems down to Earth but really gets into character.
this movie has a great influence on ppl, no matter where u are, or if u play a game, when u say or type this is madness, someone would reply with This Is SPARTA!!! its awwsome, so is the movie :D
oh how i love when he talk about food, really opened and easy going, you'd think he would be at least a little bit full of him self. what a nice surprise
This is a message to all 300 fans. If u havent seen the movieor would like to see it again dont mind going to the cinemas or buying a DVD just go and see my playlist or the playlist of the user called SpartanGlory1983. Th playlist is called 300-the movie by DavidDarmoty. I know there are many playlists like this but on the other hand there are many people who dont know that and like 300.
Gerard Butler, Russel Crowe, Denzel Washington, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Charles Dance, Liam Neeson, The Rock, Joel Edgerton & Jason Momoa are the actors that can do historical roles & ace them without any effort anybody else that has ever done them are a massive joke in comparison.
i saw you commenting on his phantom of the opera video... I didint realize how worked up people get over whose better him or that michael c person as the phantom.
Actually the word "Scot" are people who where born in scotland(then pictland) but lived in ireland then after they returned there where a larger number of Scots than picts so it led to Pictland being renamed scotland. Pictland people called it is because of the tribal tradition of warriors painting themselves so when the fought the romans they called them the "Picture People" because they where painted like a picture.
i didn't see the broadcast so I don't really know what you guys are all talking about, but maybe Gerry had been putting up with fans bugging him all day, nagging for hugs, pictures, autographs and what not--I mean don't you think you'd kind of annoyed if you had to go through that all the time? So I'm sure it was just a long day for him and he was just a little exasperated. I'm sure he didn't mean to be rude. I'm sorry, I'm such a loyal fan of Gerry's that I'll stick up for him no matter what.
The Spartans never fought rhinos or elephants; they never had to kill a leviathan bloodthirsty demonic man; they never went into "killing sprees", but instead stayed in a straight line and made "waves" of attacks. For crying out loud, did you pay attention at all when you were in eigth grade history?
He killed this movie, now I wonder what he's going to do with those abs now. Think about it now he has abs and is going to sit around until he gets another movie deal with abs.
that's just how things used to be. the romans were extremely brutal to, but they're considered one of the greatest cultures ever, just ignorant to Christian beliefs(if your Christian) you have to keep in mind that in the end, its just entertainment
I actually watched the extra DVD in the double-edition of Phantom. The original Phantom actually sang too perfectly. Probably cause it was Broadway, but I found Gerard's voice much more suited. Add to that the fact that the original Phantom and Christine were homely. It's not that they were older either - they just were not as handsome as Gerry or as pretty as Emmy.
hes in the movie 300!!!!? thats a sick movie! i cant believe he was in the phantom of the opera!!!!! idc anyway... hes still great. no efences to the movie!
You forgot to mention that, at the same time, there was a great war at sea. The Greek victory probably saved western civilization as we know it today. (i.e. democracy)
I had never heard of this guy before--hes gonna be a big star now!
You were right
I DONT CARE WHAT THE STUPID CRITICS SAY 300 AND 300 RISE OF AN EMPIRE WERE BOTH BRILLIANT
Is gerard butler in 300: rise an empire?
marvelisthebest no leonidas died didn’t he
@@aaronhelsby8214 yeah he did but if you search up gerard butler movies 300 rise of empire shows up too
@@jtatum6900 He is in one scene if I'm not mistaking, in which his body is on the ground (where he died) and Xerxes beheads him with an axe.
@@jtatum6900 yes

Simple high protein no carbs
Well at least we know now that their “abs” were actually spray painted on and a bunch of CGI.
@@freelikeyve do you think humans aren’t capable of having abs? Do you live at McDonald’s?
Phantom is my favorite movie. I always enjoyed the Broadway play as a child and when the movie came out my husband and I were thrilled. Gerard made it 1000x better by playing such a charming, handsome Phantom.
I love that he's kept his accent. Man he's lovely. =]
Amazing actor! So handsome and so talented! He was fantastic in the phantom of the opera and in dear franky! And in 300, just gorgeous!!! He played like a real Greek ,full of passion, I m proud that he was chosen to play a great man like Leonidas.
One of the most underrated movies of the year. Perfect acting, script, dialogue. Gerard Butler fucking rocks.
He has shown that you can become what you think about and where you put your focus, during the movie you can see the power in his eyes
It just goes to show that as funny as a guy can get, he can still be really serious and intelligent. Gawd, Gerry is, like, perfect!!!
From Phantom of the Opera to 300...this man is simply amazing!
I love looking at him and listening to his beautiful Scottish accent. He sounds so calm in this interview. All his other interviews he's usually yelling or laughing. but this is different. (He's gorgeous!)
Damn! Its been 13 years. I really wanna go back in time.
This guy is a freakin bad ass awsome movie nobody could've done a better job than he did.
Gerard is amazing!! What presence, he's going to be a huge star!
Great interview, thanks for sharing. As to 'The Man's' smoking, read his interview in the Men's Health Mag. He is trying, really trying. BTW--Great interview there as well. Really give's new insight into 'The Man'himself.

I really liked that he did the voice of the guy in the black freighter in watchmen
Great interview!
i'm happy 300 makes me discover this actor, he is really gorgeous, and he is a very good actor !
He is indeed a very determined person when he sets his mind in something.

2:47 How couldn't he feel like a lion? Leonidas(Λεωνίδας) actually means "Son of the Lion" (one who is bold as a lion). :P He was great in the movie!
I was honestly very suprised to see him taking this role. He seems like such a quiet guy who likes to play more serious roles. No he was awesome even so in 300, I'm just suprised he was there is all. The word is "gravitas" meaning a serious or dignified demeanor
Actually the word "Scot" are people who where born in scotland(then pictland) but lived in ireland then after they returned there where a larger number of Scots than picts so it led to Pictland being renamed scotland. Butler is uber-Scottish clan name, but it's said Gerry is of Irish descent.
gerard butler isn't just leonidas, but he's stoick
u guys should watch the movie where he played as attile the hun i think the movie was called Attila or something
is that the 'THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAA' guy?
He was the only actor who could play Leonidas I think.
hes a real bad ass. He's the king. He's the man
I giggled the entire time. He turned me into a school girl. Thats a sexy accent.
@KumaOceanHeart I know me too, he has something that makes me go OMG! everytime I see him in a movie!!!
