FYI, you do not want weight on top of the foam, this causes the foam to collapse onto the wire. This causes the wire to drag and bow in the center. In a perfect setup the wire does not touch the foam but melts it in very close proximity. Additionally it keeps your wire clean. Adjust temp and speed to achieve a perfect cut. You will have to oversize your cuts to account for the kerf. Source: I used to run a large foam cutter for surfboard blanks.

Thanks for the tips man i really appreciate it. I am still just playing with settings and cuts. I see various different ways to do it with each side having "success" lol. So i will try both ways and see which one works for me the best. Some guys say go super slow with lowest watts other guys are like mega wattage and running fast. I think i will probably be playing with the settings for years. Its a fun hobby.

Yes its a nice combination of setting up the shop and getting a tool to make stuff. I have been doing all my test cuts using a pw51 airfoil which is a highly recommended airfoil for slope planks. I could never cut it well as its very thin to start and doing the cut by hand i would always mess up the tip end and cut thru.

I thought i had it on my build log but going back thru i don't see the specific link. There is a picture of it here in this post: forum.flitetest.com/index.php?threads/rc-keith-cnc-hot-wire-build-log.53534/post-415719
Here is a link to the place i ordered it from. Be carefull as there are similar models in 3 axis only: www.omc-stepperonline.com/4-axis-tb6560-cnc-stepper-motor-driver-board-for-nema-17-23-stepper-motor-st-6560v4.html?search=tb6560
