Living In GISBORNE New Zealand 🇳🇿 Top Things To Do Tairawhiti East Coast NZ | 197 Countries, 3 Kids

  • Hi everyone,
    Join us on a tour around Gisborne, the first place where Captain James Cook set foot in New Zealand.
    Another thing Gisborne is famous for is being the first City (there are smaller places further east) to see the first sun rays every morning.
    While in Gisborne, we stayed at a beautiful house that belonged to the mother of Chantal’s friend from Canada. What we really loved most about it was the spacious, fully-equipped kitchen because we love preparing our own meals
    If you’ve seen our previous videos, you know that our girls are excellent cooks, and if you haven’t, this video will definitely make it obvious because we did cook some yummy meals such as tofu curry, veggie wraps, eggs benedict, banana bread and much more!
    On day one, we decided to take a walk to downtown Gisborne and get a better sense of the area. We walked up to the waterfront to check out Gisborne port and the statues of James Cook and his cabin boy “Young Nick” who was actually the first one to spot the New Zealand coast in the distance.
    Another famous Gisborne location is Titirangi, Kaiti Hill. We drove up to the top (even though you can also take a hike) to have a picnic and enjoy one of the best views of the area.
    Along the way, we kinda lost Tyler, who actually went further up to take a beautiful panoramic video. It took us a while to regroup, but, as you know, we love a good workout in nature. Exercise is exactly why locals love climbing up Titirangi, Kaiti Hill too.
    Gisborne also had a great iSITE information desk that Chantal and Julia visited to learn more about what would be fun to see and do in the area. They also found a small European-style café to enjoy a nice cup of coffee by the waterfront.
    On Saturday we visited the farmers market, which happens every weekend, and bought some locally-grown produce and cheese that ended up on our table for lunch. After a healthy meal, we tasted some not-so-healthy Kiwi lollies (candy) like pineapple lumps, you all suggested we should try.
    In need of some more ingredients, Chantal and Chloe went to the store, and Chloe walked barefoot in a public place for the first time! We were definitely becoming Kiwis!
    Gisborne is also one of the best places to go surfing in New Zealand, so we couldn’t miss checking out the surfers gliding across the ocean at Okitu Beach.
    Another must-see location in Gisborne is the Eastwoodhill Arboretum (tree garden). We went on a buggy tour around the place learning about its history, the founder, the trees and how they ended up in the park, and even how they were planted.
    We also witnessed an interesting phenomenon known as “crown shyness” observed in some tree species whose crowns don’t touch when fully stocked.
    We loved spending time in Eastwoodhill Arboretum. It was a fun and educational activity at a very reasonable price.
    With another week to go, we still had plenty of things to see and do. Join us in part 2 for an epic adventure with stingrays at Dive Tatapouri, sheep shearing near the Mahia rocket launch complex, and more!
    So, what do you think of Gisborne so far? Would you ever visit this beautiful coastal city?
    Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!

    I'm stoked that you guys came back to Gizzy again. But we dont generally have hot days and cold evenings except Spring and Autumn. It is very true that we all know each other - and I cant believe you walked right by my workplace without me seeing you!! The road north/south of Gisborne is windy, this is why we are still such a best kept secret! Lol! It is quite a scenic drive though, so definitely worth the corners. There is still a lot that Gisborne has to offer that you haven't seen, ask the locals what their favourite thing to do in Gisborne is :)

I too have been to the supermarket in my PJ's but I did pull a pair of pants and a jersey on over the top haha. Maori were here first of course (by several hundred years), Abel Tasman was the first European and he partially mapped Aotearoa although never landed here. James Cook arrived later, made a better map and set foot on land right here in Tairawhiti. When he did so, he claimed the country for Great Britain.

    they should have some pics n names,
    and Matamata does have hot pools if you do the Hobbit town thing, + horsey riding,

    Hi I just stumbled across your videos today, I’m originally from Gisborne Gissy and was so great to see your visit there. Yes gissy people are all chilled and relaxed and live on a go slow lifestyle and our own strange lingo slang language 😂😂 made me laugh that you thought it funny that we like to go around bare foot, even in winter we will put socks on with jandals 😂😂 plus most homes still have open fires to warm the home. I also noticed you never said how us kiwis in gissy love eating fish and chips straight from the paper, no plates or cutlery 😂😂 plus love eating out fish snd chips at the beach. Another food that kiwis love is our hot dogs on a stick, dipped in batter and deep fried then dipped in tomato sauce, yummy. Even though gissy is a city we still call it a town. Did you come across about a million cockroaches in gissy 😂😂 I hate them. I live in Aussie now and often get comments that ai go barefoot a lot. I watched both your gissy videos and a couple of others about cost of living and a live chat about been in gissy. I think it’s so wonderful what your doing as a family your children will be a wealth of knowledge, a life time experience. I will watch more if you NZ videos, just love them. Enjoy your travels.

    I have not heard many say gisbin. Alot say Gisborne as it is supposed to be. Its a good walk past the ships thankyou for sharing your journey. I live in Gisborne its a good place. Think the population was a bit high? Unless i dont know new figures

    • @louisacrisp5789
      @louisacrisp5789 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most locals say Gizbin without realising they do. If I told people I live in GisBORNe, they write it down as GisBOURNE. I never knew I said it as Gizbin until I started travelling out of town and people would comment on my pronounciation. (And I'm not one to generally use slang) Yes, population is definitely lower, between 30 - 40,000.

    Sorry I missed the premiere - I was at a party, so I have an excuse.
    2:49 - James Cook was, of course, a Yorkshireman.
    3:32 - "I don't like Mondays" - there's a very sad story behind that song.
    4:06 - The "Gisbun" pronunciation is very much the way it would be said in Northern England.
    4L33 - "A long boat" - I was expecting to see Vikings!

    • @GrowingUpWithoutBorders
      @GrowingUpWithoutBorders  2 ปีที่แล้ว
